Symptoms of Dengue Fever - Treatment for Dengue in India

Symptoms of Dengue fever is an acute viral infection with potential fatal

complications.
It is transmitted mainly by Aedes aegypti mosquito and also by Ae. Albopictus.
All four serotypes can cause full spectrum of disease from a subclinical infection to
a symptoms of mild self limiting disease, the dengue fever (DF) and a severe
disease that may be fatal, the dengue haemorrhagic fever shock syndrome
(DHF/DSS).
The 1997 WHO classification divided dengue fever into undifferentiated fever,
dengue fever (DF), and dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF).

Diagnosing Dengue Fever :

The main symptoms of Dengue fever are sudden, high fever, severe headaches,
pain behind the eyes, severe joint and muscle pain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, skin
rash, which appears two to five days after the onset of fever and mild bleeding such
a nose bleed, bleeding gums, or easy bruising.
If the symptoms of Dengue are serious, patients can develop dengue hemorrhagic
fever, a rare complication characterized by high fever, damage to lymph and blood
vessels, bleeding from the nose and gums, enlargement of the liver, and failure of
the circulatory system. The symptoms of Dengue fever may progress to massive
bleeding, shock, and death. This is called dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

Symptoms of dengue illness :

Rapid decrease in Blood Platelet Count

Severe headache
Severe eye pain
Joint pain
Muscle and/or bone pain
Rashes on the skin
Mild bleeding manifestation (e.g., nose or gum bleed, petechiae, or easy
bruising)
Low white cell count

Symptoms of Dengue usually begin three to four days and may last upto 14 days
after the bite of an infected mosquito
Note: The symptoms of Dengue are mild and can be mistaken for flu or any other
viral infection.

Prevention of Dengue fever:

Dengue fever prevention is the most important step to reduce the risk of dengue
infection.
There are several ways of prevention:
Prevent access of mosquitoes to an infected person with a fever.
To prevent dengue fever, you must prevent the breeding of its carrier, the
Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes mosquitoes are identified by the black and white
stripes on their bodies.
Three days after the mosquito has bitten a person and taken in blood, it will
lay eggs, and the cycle begins again

Prevention by Mosquito habitat

To eliminate standing water

Prevention by reducing Mosquito bites- Particularly daytime

bites.

Clothing tips to keep in mind before entering into a mosquito infected

place:

Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants & socks.

Consider tucking your pants into your socks.
Wear light-colored clothing, since mosquitoes are more attracted to darker
colors.
Apply mosquito repellent to your clothing, shoes, and camping gear and bed
netting to prevent symptoms of Dengue fever.

Treatment of Dengue fever :

A Bengaluru-based laboratory has achieved a breakthrough in creating a

tablet for Dengue fever symptom, the disease which aims to decrease the
platelet count in patients infected with dengue virus.

A botanical pill with the name Caripill is launched by Micro Labs Limited,
which increases the platelet count in symptoms of dengue fever patients. The
drug is a plant medicine manufactured by using carica papaya leaf extract.
The tablet has received clearance from the Department of AYUSH.

The clinical trials showed no side-effects of the Caripill tablet. It is available in

a formulation of both tablet and syrup. Each Caripill tablet contains 1100mg
of Carica papaya and the syrup contains 275mg/5ml.

The medical use of caripill is proven through clinical studies in patients in

India and other parts of the world with Dengue fever - low platelet count
associated with symptoms of dengue.

Did you know?

Only the female Aedes mosquito bites as it needs the protein in blood to
develop its eggs which leads to dengue fever.
The mosquito becomes infective, symptoms of Dengue starts approximately
seven days after it has bitten a person carrying the virus.
The mosquito Aedis, breeds in fresh water.
It is a day biting mosquito which causes Dengue fever.
The average lifespan of an Aedes mosquito is two weeks.
The mosquito can lay eggs about three times in its lifetime, and about 100
eggs are produced each time.
The Dengue mosquito can breed all through the year. The eggs can lie
dormant in dry conditions for up to about nine months, after which they can
hatch if exposed to favourable conditions, i.e. water and food.
