First, thanks for a few things:

Thanks, once again, to a congregation that cares for our community, for our
congregation, and for the pastor. I appreciate the gift you have given me
by calling me to this place and allowing me to be a part of your lives. That
you have blessed my family with a gift for pastor appreciation makes our
mutual ministry sweeter. Thank you!
Thanks to the deacons for thinking of the college students this holiday season! We have gotten a few thank you notes in regard to that, and Jacob
Bickell came into the office before Christmas to express his thanks! Keep
up the good work deacons and congregation!
Thanks go to the anonymous person who secretly left 2 pair of socks for my birthday one in
my open box, and one in the robing room. Then, on Monday morning, in the mail came a
third pair! You know who you are, and now you know how much the gifts are appreciated!
On the radio just a few days ago, I heard a report on gifting. I had heard the word gift used as a
verb, but had thought it either out of date, or worse, a pretentious way of telling others one was
important I gifted someone with a car. (for example) Surprisingly, using gift as a verb is not only common, but appropriate. I still prefer giving!
Whether you gift others or give gifts, this is your season! Tis the season of giving, and no doubt
you find yourself giving in many ways. Whether its giving of something thoughtful you have chosen
for that special someone, or giving of your time by shoveling a neighbors driveway we all give in
many ways.
During the Christmas season, many of you will celebrate with family and friends around tables. You
will give the gift of Presence that many cherish especially this time of year. In Matthews Gospel,
Jesus says that wherever two or three are gathered in my name, there I am also. Time with family
and friends, because of Jesus presence is a holy moment to be cherished.
This season can be difficult for some who have lost loved ones, and would like to share gifts with
them. Maybe loved ones have moved far away and cannot be with us. For those who struggle to
make this time joyful because of loss, a special prayer for you. May God fill you with hope and courage as you continue on your faith journey. May the light of Christ give you peace.
As followers of Jesus, the greatest gift of all, we know the importance of giving at this time of year.
As Johns Gospel tells us, For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him shall have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send his Son to condemn the world, but
that the world through him might be saved How important that giving of self, to be with all of us!
Often the greatest gift does not cost money; it is the gift of ones own time and presence with others.
May God bless you and yours in this Season of Giving! God gift you with peace, hope, and love!

the best!
We encourage our Sunday school attendees and
