Every country through the world seeks the development of its educational system and
tries to make it better and more effective. Tens of years ago the expression CALL has
been appear, which is an abbreviation for '' computer assisted language learning ''. It is a
way for learning and teaching a new language mainly using computers and its websites. It
facilitates the educational process since it is a part of our lives, makes it effective and
more enjoyable. You can learn anywhere and anytime you want .Here, it is good to
mention MOOCs, which is a word stands for ''Massive Open Online Course''. it consists
of courses and materials for free so students can watch lectures and join groups .they

can also participate through a discussion between them . He courses are taken from
several universities and colleagues, and there is a lot of tests and quizzes.
Using computers in teaching-learning process can take several advantages and
disadvantages for both learner and teacher .Here is some advantages and disadvantages
of using CALL:
Advantage number 1: flexibility of choosing the topic that you want
Using CALL offer you the flexibility in choosing the topic or the course that you want.
Learners choose the topic that they are interested in more or in need for it more.
Advantage number 2: flexibility in time
Some learners cannot sometimes attend the class because of emergency circumstances.
For example: a student in his way to class but while he is going to class he got an
accident prevent him from attending the class. In this situation, he could watch the lecture
later on using a computer. In addition, if a student his house is so far, and it is so difficult
to attend the class on time, he could just stay at home and watch the lecture whenever and
wherever he wants.

Advantage number 3: Enjoying in education

When comparing CALL with traditional teaching methods, you will find it more
enjoyable. Traditional methods became boring now. Learners can watch many interesting
beautiful videos. They will learn things they want with fun. For example, if a beginner
learner of a language wants to learn numbers or colors, they could watch videos with
songs in order to memorize it quickly and easily .Also they can watch pictures, comics,
and listen to an audio clips.
Advantage number 4: comfortable
In this way of learning, learners do not need to carry their books or other stuff. All they
need are on their computers. Quizzes, tests, and courses are also on their computers. You
don't need to carry them out. Teachers also do not need to carry many papers (papers of
exams and quizzes) .they corrects the exams and quizzes on computer. He gives also the
feedback and marks while he's at home and anytime he wants. He does not need to carry
ten on papers to the home.
Advantage number 5: confidence
It is worth mentioning that students who tend call classes are more confident than who
tend to use traditional ways. because we are living in a modern and advanced world that
depends on computers in all its relations and it became a part of our lives and nobody
can dispense on it whether in commercial relations , international , social , political

relations , etc... It became a necessary to know how to use computers and its
attachments.
Advantage number 6: availability
Computers became available everywhere and mostly in everyone's home .Availability
related somehow to the time and place. Learners can see their lectures whenever they
want and wherever they want. You can re-watch the lectures as much as you can . also ,
the teacher can send the students the feedback anytime he/she wants , and she can write
up an assignment and homework anytime . The learner also can submit it anytime he
wants. Therefore, availability makes it easy to learn and teach.

However, we cannot ignore the disadvantages of using call .so, here are some
disadvantages that you may face while using CALL.
Number one: the need for trained teachers
CALL requires the presence of trained teachers , able to handle with computers and
technology , and familiar in advanced with technological developments , websites , and
a lot of tech tools , so the teacher could choose the best and the most appropriate tech
tools for his/her students .

Number two: the main rebalance hinge up on computers

CALL depends on computers. so learners who don't have computers at their home or
don't have a good connection with networks will face a problem in using this style of
learning , ad it is somehow impossible to choose this style of learning while you are don't
have the main important things .
Number three: heath affects
One of the disadvantages of CALL that we cannot turn a blind sight for is health effects
that computer caused. Setting along on computers could hurt your eyes and low vision. In
addition, it may not suit people who do not like setting on computer long times or people
who have eyes problems. . In addition to this, computers could kill the imagination for
kids and their creativity. Therefore, if it is must for children, it should not be for a long
time.
Number four the need for good knowledge for computer usage.
The teacher or the learner must have background knowledge of how to use and deal
with computers. If they did not cope with the development of technologies and
computers, they will face a problem in learning or teaching process.
Number five the non-effectiveness of some websites and applications.

Some websites and applications are not efficient enough in giving the information that
the learners need. It doesn't contain all the information that should be on it. For example,
the website Inogolo, which is for pronunciation of proper nouns, does not contain all the
names that the learner could search about. So the teacher should be acquainted with a lot
of websites and application to achieve a maximum understanding for learners.

Some CALL applications

I would like to share you some applications and websites that I have known through this
semester.
Inogolo
Inogolo is a free website that takes any English word (names of people, places, and
various things) and shows us what their correct pronunciation is. After we search for a
name, a breakdown of its syllables presented to us; this clarifies the pronunciation.
Inogolos library contains an impressive number of names; but if your searched name is
not included, the name is added in the list of words to be added to the library. The
purposes of the website is to provide an easy to use tool that will help English speakers
pronounce difficult and commonly mispronounced names and For non-English speakers
and those for whom English is a second language to provide an easy to use tool to help

pronounce common English names, since many English names seemingly follow no
phonetic rules. Of course, this website has some advantages and disadvantages. Some of
the advantages that the information is available to be accessed by anyone, anywhere, and
anytime and the information within a site could be quickly accessed. In addition, there is
no need to carry a hard copy of information with you. On the other hand, there are some
disadvantages of using Inogolo. The information on the website may not be reliable and
if you have a limit experience with internet this website will be difficult to be used. In
addition, it may be difficult to reach your target audience, because it is not authorized by
reputable source.

English central
English Central is an application or website designed to learn English by watching
different videos with various topics and in many levels. There are over 10.000
videos with subtitles. If you do not know the meaning of any word within the
subtitles or if any word is difficult for you to pronounce, you can easily tap the
word and get more details about it (Meaning, Example in sentence). These
videos help you to improve your English Speaking, Listening, Pronunciation,
Writing, Vocabulary, and Grammar. It is an easy tech tool, the videos are so
interesting, and you can repeat the video you want several time. Whatever this
website has some disadvantages. Unfortunately, the videos are too short. In

addition, each video has a subtitle and this make the students concentrate on
what is written instead of what is spoken.

CALL, if it is not desired, it is a necessity. If the teacher does not want to depend on it
totally, he must incorporate it with traditional ways. He must benefit from the advantages,
focuses on weakness points, and try to tackle it.
