manufacturing presence in India combined with our local experience, international

Bombardier has a large industrial base employing
around 800 people, generating more than 3,000
indirect manufacturing and engineering jobs locally and
for neighbouring markets.

Maneja Site Partner to Indian Railways


Our Maneja site provides a range of high quality
propulsion and control products for mainline and metro
applications. The recently expanded site, covering around
25,000 square metres is certified to ISO standard for
quality, environmental management and occupational
health and safety.
Maneja site completed 15 years of successful commercial
production and supply of propulsion and control
equipment to Indian Railways in 2012.

In 2008, we established a state-of-the-art facility in
Savli near Vadodara Gujarat. Following an initial
investment of 33 million Euros (INR 230 crores),
Bombardiers dedicated, high technology facility is now
equipped to rival the worlds finest in the production of
modern rail vehicles.
With this investment, Bombardier became the first foreign
multinational company to set up a wholly-owned railway
manufacturing plant in India for the production and
final assembly of bogies and carbodies. With the recent
upgrading of its International Railway Industry Standard
(IRIS) certification, Savli is the only railway vehicle
manufacturing site in India to achieve this distinction.

Our commitment and investment in Gujarat has attracted


other world class suppliers and specialist sub-contractors
to the region meaning that an increasing proportion of
our product is locally sourced.
With all our employees fully trained in specialised
manufacturing processes, our sites in Gujarat have
evolved into truly Indian production and engineering
hubs, meeting consistantly high international quality
standards.

The modern Savli carbody hall incorporates some of


the most advanced rail vehicle production equipment
available, including robotic manufacturing and spotwelding
equipment.

The Savli site is a Bombardier centre of excellence


for metro vehicle production in India and the region.
The modular approach to carbody manufacturing
adopted for our Bombardier* MOVIA* metro cars
allows optimum efficiency and ease of final assembly
as it enables work to be carried out simultaneously on
different parts of a vehicle.

Bogie production
The bogie site at Savli is well integrated into the
Bombardier Bogies network and benefits from the
companys 160 year experience of developing and
manufacturing reliable and innovative bogies that combine
safety and reliability with low maintenance costs.
With many of our skilled personnel sharing training and
best practice with Bombardiers global bogie sites and
the latest technologies and equipment, Savli has become
a centre of expertise for production and servicing of
bogies across the region, and is capable of producing
1,500 assembled bogies a year.

Bombardiers Propulsion and Controls Production and


Development Centre at the Maneja site in Vadodara,
Gujarat, has been supplying Indian Railways with
propulsion and control equipment for tractions over the
last two decades.

Rail Control Solutions


Bombardier also provides its internationally acclaimed
Rail Control Solutions products for India. The Rail Control
Solutions (RCS) division has site office in Delhi NCR and
the modern facility is home to Bombardiers India-based
signalling engineering and project delivery team, who
develop and deliver latest rail control solutions, adapted
specifically for Indian customers. With over 23 years of
presence in India, Bombardier Rail Control Solutions has a
unique appreciation of the Indian market.

Engineering excellence in Hyderabad


In 2003, Bombardier established an engineering
centre in Hyderabad. This centre is operated by
Infotech Enterprises Ltd.
BT Engineering Centre India (BTECI) supports all
Bombardier business segments serving global projects
and has around 400 employees.

To meet the demand for increased passenger capacity


in expanding cities, our urban vehicles provide efficient
and cost-effective performance in highly populated
areas. From large-scale urban transit vehicles to light
metro applications, we offer a full range of rail car
technologies and systems

MOVIA trains: Helping cities breathe


Bombardier has delivered 614 state-of-the-art MOVIA
high-capacity metro vehicles to combat traffic congestion
and to provide effective public transport in New Delhi.
These state-of-the-art trains form an integral element of
Delhi Metros plans to improve mobility and expand the
current network to the outskirts of the city. The MOVIA
vehicles will reduce daily travel time for around 4 million
passengers, alleviating the heavy traffic congestion and
pollution caused by more than one million cars that
commute in New Delhi every day.
The MOVIA metro cars are designed for rapid,
efficient, and cost-effective performance and
combined with the BOMBARDIER* CITYFLO*
mass transit signalling technology they
increase frequency and availability
of services.

The modern, high capacity MOVIA vehicles are designed


to accommodate 1,480 passengers comfortably per
four-car train set, 2,220 passengers per six-car set
and 2,960 passengers per eight-car set. Sustainability
and eco-friendliness are among the key aspects of the
technologies, for example the Bombardier* MITRAC*
propulsion system with regenerative braking which
creates energy savings of up to 30 per cent.
The flexible, modular MOVIA vehicle design is also
equipped with our BOMBARDIER* FLEXX* Metro
3000 bogies, an extremely robust and reliable design,
specifically adapted by our engineers to suit the existing
infrastructure. Bombardier has installed and delivered
more than 1,250 FLEXX Metro bogies in the metro cars.
In Singapore, Bombardier is delivering advanced driverless
trains for the Downtown Line, providing exceptional levels
of efficiency and environmental performance

INNOVIA systems leading edge solutions for


cities and airports
The BOMBARDIER* INNOVIA* product family of monorail,
metro and automated people mover (APM) systems
ensure urban flow in cities around the world safely,
efficiently and flexibly. These driverless, state-of-the-art
transit solutions for urban centres and airports usually run
on slim, contemporary guideways that are architecturally
designed to integrate seamlessly into different
environments and use minimum space. Bombardier is the
world leader in fully automated transit systems and brings
extensive experience in providing turnkey solutions for
large scale projects.

INNOVIA monorail 300 system game changing


urban transit solution
The INNOVIA Monorail 300 system is the culmination of
Bombardiers experience in developing and implementing
advanced driverless monorail systems. Fast and costeffective
to build, INNOVIA Monorail 300 systems are todays game
changing solution for urban transportation whether offering
high capacity, frequent services for commuters on dense
inner-city routes or transporting visitors to out of town
destinations such as sports stadiums or tourist sites.

Urban fit seamless integration into


different environments
Architecturally designed to integrate seamlessly into
different environments, including through buildings and
structures, the infrastructure of the INNOVIA Monorail
300 system requires minimal land expropriation and
meets the most stringent urban transit, environmental
and safety standards. Developed to minimise the costs
and disruption of civil construction, the pre-cast,
posttensioned elevated guideway structure is constructed
off-site to permit fast assembly on location. Long beam
spans and tight curve capability also contribute towards
lower expropriation costs. In addition, the elevated
guideways avoid the need for expensive and timeconsuming
tunnelling works, a major advantage when
introducing a new transit system in existing dense
urban areas.

driverless systems
The INNOVIA Monorail 300 system features the highly
proven Bombardier* CITYFLO* 650 communicationsbased
train control system for driverless operation.
Installed in cities around the world, this advanced solution
brings many benefits for rail operators and passengers,
such as improved safety, high reliability, shorter headways
between trains and reduced maintenance costs.

MODERN RAIL CONTROL SOLUTIONS


TO INCREASE TRANSPORT CAPACITY
Bombardier Transportations Rail Control Solutions
division develops and installs systems for train control
and signalling, offering integrated control, electronic
interlocking, automatic train protection and operation
systems, radio-based train control and signalling
as well as wayside equipment for local and
long-distance transport.

INTERFLO for ERTMS


Bombardier has pioneered the development of ERTMS
Level 1, Level 2 and Regional, in over 30 projects worldwide.
Our wayside and onboard systems have been implemented
on more than 21,000 km of track and 2,300 vehicles.
Bombardier systems are easily adapted to existing equipment
to deliver increased safety, interoperability, high speed and
reduced need for wayside infrastructure.
The Rail Control Solutions division has been present in the
Indian market for over 23 years. During this time we pioneered
the introduction of the first ever jointless audio frequency
track circuits, EBI Track 200, which has since been introduced
as part of numerous automatic signalling projects for Indian
Railways.
Bombardier has also provided Traffic Management Systems
for Mumbais Western and Central Railways. Managed by
Indian Railways these two networks, covering nearly 800
km of track, are among the worlds most densely used train
operations. Every day around 2,500 trains run on time, safely
accommodating approximately 7 million passengers.

Our Mass Transit Portfolio CITYFLO


The Bombardier CITYFLO portfolio offers a wide
range of solutions for mass transit, from trams to metros
and airport people mover systems, all delivering safety,
flexibility and performance while reducing costs. From
CITYFLO 150 to CITYFLO 650, our systems encompass
all requirements from cab signalling to automatic train
control (ATC) technology, communications-based train
control (CBTC) systems and driverless train operation.

In 2007, Bombardier was awarded the prestigious order for


a signalling and train control system for two new lines of the
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Bombardiers semiautomatic train operation (STO) technology, the CITYFLO
350 solution, has been operating on Lines 5 and 6 since 2010
and is currently being delivered for the extensions to both
lines awarded in the new contract in 2013.

FIRST DRIVERLESS
UNATTENDED SIGNALLING
SYSTEM IN INDIA
In September 2013, Bombardier received a contract
to deliver the first driverless unattended signalling
solution for Delhi Metros new Line 7, the latest part
of Delhis metro expansion plan.
This groundbreaking CBTC system will provide
optimal capacity and safety levels on the 58.4km
line. Reflecting the quality of its technology and
the strength of the partnership, Bombardier is now
DMRCs largest contractor for signalling and train
control solutions.

MAKING LOCOMOTIVES FOR INDIA


Bombardiers long-standing relationship with
Indian Railways (IR) began in 1993 with the award of
a contract to design and build electric mainline
passenger and freight locomotives, combined with
a technology transfer agreement for the manufacture
of locomotives in India.
The comprehensive technology transfer agreement also
enabled IR to manufacture similar locomotives at the
Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) in West Bengal.
Bombardiers engineers have been instrumental throughout
the process from system engineering to assembly, testing
and commissioning of the locomotives.
The two types of locomotives, WAP 5 and WAG 9, designed
and built with technology transfer to the Chittaranjan
Locomotive Works (CLW) in West Bengal in 1993, pioneered
the use of GTO traction and three phase asynchronous
drives in India, thereby establishing Indian Railways as the
first railway organisation in Asia operating three-phase drive
technology.

Bombardiers expertise in locomotives is globally recognised.
The BOMBARDIER* TRAXX* platform of locomotives is the
mainstay of rail haulage with over 1,480 units in operation
by global rail operators to date, moving freight and passengers
across Europe. The TRAXX locomotive platform features a
high level of standardisation and integration at the vehicle,
system, and component levels. The TRAXX platform includes
single, dual, and multi-system electric locomotives for AC
and DC catenary systems, as well as diesel locomotives.

World leading bogie technology
Bombardiers FLEXX portfolio is the most comprehensive
in the world. Our FLEXX bogies cover the complete range
of railway vehicles, from metro to high speed trains, and
from light rail vehicles to heavy haul locomotives. With
a worldwide reputation for quality and dependability,
the FLEXX bogie portfolio focuses on providing valuable
benefits for the operator: safety, reliability & robustness.
Bombardiers bogie site in Savli has a proven track record
of delivering the companys world-class FLEXX products
locally and is now also delivering for international
projects.
The site began exporting only 3 years after the site
commenced its manufacturing activities and it is currently
supporting bogie projects across the world, including for
So Paulo in Brazil, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and several
cities in Australia.

With demand for rail services at an all-time high, train
operators are under increasing pressure to provide
additional capacity, together with highly reliable services.
Bombardier has an unparalleled reputation in
manufacturing and maintaining trains for cities and
networks throughout the world. It is also the world
leader in the development of electric multiple unit (EMU)
solutions. The AGC and SPACIUM trains in France, TALENT
2 in Germany, REGINA trains in Sweden and highly
reliable ELECTRO STAR in the UK are excellent examples
of our competencies.

Based on our wealth of experience, Bombardier has

propulsion and train control and management systems,
for all types of rolling stock. Our BOMBARDIER* MITRAC*
portfolio covers the entire range of products and services
to ensure safe and reliable operation of rail vehicles:
transformers, traction converters, motors, gears, auxiliary
power supplies, energy storage and complete train
control and management systems.

The provision of propulsion and control equipment


for 72 commuter trains of the Mumbai Railway Vikas
Corporation (MRVC). Being provided by our Maneja
site, the project involves design, manufacturing,
delivery and testing of MITRAC propulsion and control
equipment, for the 12 car trains as well as additional
equipment including fans, compressors, passenger
information systems and high voltage instruments.

HIGH SPEED TRAINS OF THE FUTURE


Bombardier has participated in approximately 95 per
cent of all high-speed projects in Europe and can look
back on more than 20 years of experience in this sector.
Here Bombardier has proven its skills in the various
consortia for important core elements from carbodies,
pantographs and power supply through to motors and
gears as well as testing and homologation procedures.
With the BOMBARDIER* ZEFIRO* product range,
Bombardier Transportation raised the bar with its own
high speed technology. The ZEFIRO trains are designed
for operating speeds between 250 km/h and 380 km/h
and offer the highest level of travelling comfort at low
operating costs, combined with application options for
various countries and rail systems.
