Mr. Todd B. Westhuis
Regional Director
NYSDOT, Region 8
4 Burnett Boulevard
Poughkeepsie, NY 12603

Dear Mr. Westhuis:

I write to respectfully yet strongly request that the Department of Transportation (DOT) move
ahead with the rehabilitation of 1.5 miles of Route 32, from the Moodna Creek Bridge in
Cornwall to the Five Corners intersection in Vails Gate, in 2017.
I am grateful the DOT, at my request, prioritized this project by placing the roadway on its
Priority Maintenance Initiative earlier this year one of fewer than a dozen in the entire
Hudson Valley region. That said, it is imperative that this repaving and drainage work not wait
any longer. An extremely busy corridor, this section of Route 32 has negatively impacted the
areas quality of life and is a significant safety hazard.
As you know, I secured $500,000 in October to repave approximately 3.5 miles of Route 32 in
the Town of Woodbury, just south of Five Corners. Rehabilitation of the 1.5 miles leading north
towards Five Corners is necessary to maintaining the entirety of this highly-trafficked road.
I strongly urge the DOT to move forward with this project in 2017.
consideration as well as your service to our region.

Thank you for your

Sincerely,

James Skoufis
