Shakespeare and Co. Company Profile

Concept Overview

Shakespeare and Co. @ Safa Center Jumeirah | Dubai, UAE

Shakespeare and Co. was established with the simple premise of serving great quality food, providing friendly and efficient service in a warm atmosphere reminiscent of home. Abiding by that philosophy has propelled the company’s growth from its first establishment in 2001, to a planned 100 Shakespeare and Co. branded outlets by 2018.

Shakespeare and Co. Company Profile

Headquartered in the bustling, thriving metropolis of Dubai, Shakespeare and Co. is proud to have been conceived and developed in the UAE. We are perpetually building upon that success through the passion and dedication of our team, inspired by our customers to evolve, so we can serve them better.

Since our inception, the restaurant concept has grown to include central warehousing and a central production kitchen for all operations. The company’s brand is complemented by a traditional French-style patisserie and outside catering. Our goal is to be a leading player in the independent casual dining industry.

The

Concept

The Café Restaurant represents the core of the concept. While every restaurant is distinctly “Shakespearean”, each outlet is unique in terms of colors, décor and layout that differentiate us from the typical “cookie cutter” concepts. Each restaurant is conceived, designed and decorated by our in- house Design Team, and every piece of furniture and fixture is handcrafted in our very own workshops. This emphasis on design has distinguished Shakespeare and Co. from its competitors.

The design and décor of our restaurants are inspired by the hallmarks of a bygone era – 18th Century Europe - a period where elegance, luxury and exquisite attention to detail were de rigueur. From plush upholstery encased with antique frames, to intricate chandeliers and vintage centerpieces, each restaurant is a classically majestic, awe- inspiring union of color, fabric and textures. These create a truly extraordinary environment that oozes comfort and encourages great conversation.

Adaptability

We understand that every market possesses its own unique characteristics – discerning palettes, varying lifestyles, cultural considerations, fickle perceptions and non-negotiable expectations. Which is why we work closely with our franchise partners to develop an intimate understanding of their country, city and target market, and craft the menus to conform to the local taste, and design the look and feel of the restaurant such as incorporating a licensed bar/lounge, to ensure it exudes an air of familiarity. The adaptability of the Shakespeare and Co. concept is an aspect that differentiates us from your typical “copy/paste” establishments.

Shakespeare and Co. Company Profile

Shakespeare and Co.’s menu comprises of classic dishes from the world’s favorite cuisines – in essence, reflecting the rich diversity of the patrons who visit our restaurants. We use classic methods and fresh ingredients to concoct quickly prepared, craveable meals that persuade a nostalgic feeling of home. From rustic Lebanese Saj, to an array of classic Italian Pizzas and Pastas, and humble yet delicious finger foods, to rich meat and seafood entrees, we have crafted our menu to suit every palate and craving.

Introduction of Catering

The success of our Café Restaurant and Patisserie divisions naturally led to the creation of our Catering division in 2010. Inspired by our discerning customers who wished to bring a touch of Shakespeare flair to their events, we specialize in small to mid-sized events, delivering the same quality and diversity of dishes featured in our restaurant menu, as well as distinctive furniture, décor and linens and personable, attentive service.

We are proud of our accomplishments, but we know the journey has just begun. We are

ambitious, passionate and hungry for greater success. However, we will never forget our humble beginnings and deviate from our roots as a family business relying on old- fashioned values and principles to not just meet, but exceed the expectations of every patron who steps through our doors.

Shakespeare and Co. Company Profile

Shakespeare and Co. focuses on consistently providing a unique experience through periodically refreshing the interior design of each restaurant, introducing new dishes, experimenting with new designs and materials and emphasizing personalized service. The merchandising and marketing departments work closely with one another to foster cohesive brand awareness by designing all printed materials to enhance the Shakespeare and Co. concept. External advertising is highly selective, focusing primarily on “word-of-mouth” reputational promotion. Marketing and advertising initiatives create brand awareness through public relations, targeted social media campaigns and alliances with charitable events, as well as minimal paid advertising in key publications.

Liquid assets are one of the primary indicators of whether or not a prospective franchisee is able to establish and operate a Shakespeare and Co. establishment. While total investment required can vary depending on each market, the average initial investment to open a typical 3,600 sq. ft restaurant is USD $ 1 million. A considerable portion of this cost can be derived from conventional sources. Shakespeare and Co. does not provide financing to franchisees, guarantee any note, lease or other documents, nor entertains joint venture proposals.

Shakespeare and Co. Company Profile

Site selection and the design process

While we expect our franchise partners to possess an intimate knowledge of the territory they are developing, the site selection process can be a daunting task. We advise on the viability of a potential site according to key criteria, and locations must be mutually agreed upon.

Then the design process begins. Based on LOD’s provided by the franchisee, our in-house Architectural and Design Team undertake both the initial concept drawings, as well as the detailed concept drawings including full layouts (general, flooring, partition, ceiling and kitchen equipment), sectional elevations, detailed drawings and full 3D (3 dimensional) renderings required by the developer and the franchisee’s appointed contractor.

The initial stages of establishing a restaurant operation is a stressful period, even for the most battle-hardened. But from the moment the agreement is signed, our team of corporate staff commences their start- up phase support, providing counseling on site selection, training and recruitment, purchasing of equipment, construction, and implementation of the concept’s standard operating procedures through comprehensive, user-friendly reference materials and tangible, on-site support.

In the days preceding the opening, we deploy a Franchise Task Force to ensure the operation and employees are ready for the challenges ahead. From product procurement, training on service fundamentals and guest relations, to operational efficiency, we ensure your team is well equipped to succeed.

Service and Kitchen Operations Training

The key to success of a Shakespeare and Co. franchise is full implementation of standards of food, service and quality. We ensure this by training every new outlet opening team in every facet of the operation – from operation of equipment, food and beverage preparation, steps of service and effective guest relations, product knowledge, and administrative responsibilities and recordkeeping. There is no defined period as to how long our task force remains on the ground – we will remain until both franchisee and franchisor are confident the operation is stable and the staff are confident and capable of continuing on their own.

Other Considerations

  • - Establishing and operating a restaurant business is a capital-intensive venture. We provide expert guidance, from validating a franchisee’s feasibility studies, to guidance in maximizing sales and operational efficiency to increase profitability.

  • - Depending on the size of the market, the company may require the franchisee to open a minimum number of outlets within a specified time frame. Each new outlet will receive pre- opening assistance from the franchisor.

  • - Recognizing that each franchise opportunity will be unique to a particular territory/situation, a party wishing to explore franchising opportunities with Shakespeare and Co. should embark on preliminary discussions to identify territorial requirements, restrictions, etc., and negotiate/amend details of the franchise arrangement to the satisfaction of both parties.
