What are neuroglia?

Neuroglia cells is the supporting structure of nervous tissue consisting in central
nervous system.

How many types of glial cells are there?

Astrocytes- Star shaped
glial cell of central nervous
system.

Microglia
Very small
cell that remove waste.
Function similar to
immune system.

Oligodendrocytes
Oligodendrocytes- a glial cells similar to astrocytes build myelin sheaths that
surround and insulate certain verbrate actions.

Schwanna Cells
Schwanna Cells- secreting cell
surronding a myelinated nerve fiber
between two nodes of Ranvier.

Satellite
Satellite Cells: act as protective, cushioning cells.

general functions of neuroglia

-

Form myelin, which wraps around axons to speed up electric impulse

conduction.
Provide nutrients to your neurons, including oxygen.
Destroy pathogens
Provide a general support structure in which

neurons can sit.

Neuron Vs Neuroglia
Neuron

structural and functional units of nervous tissue.

Contain Nissls granules.

Contain axons.

Responted for transmission.

Neuron Vs Neuroglia
Neuroglia

Support cell of nervous tissue.

Nissl granules are absent.
No Axons.
Form packaging media between nerve cell in brain and spinal chord.

What is Ependymal and it function?

-

Type of neuronal cell or neuroglia , that forms the epithelial lining of the
ventricles (cavities) in the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord.

line the cavities in CNS

Contribute to the formation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)

Cilia assist in circulation of CSF

provide neural stem cells for brian regeration

Structure
-

Cubiodal shape
Single layer

Disease
-

Borna disease (BD) : an immune-mediated neurological disease caused by

infection of the nervous system with a negative strand RNA virus, Borna
disease virus (BDV).

Complication : Encephalitis, meningitis Meningitis

The main symtoms: phychosis and nervousness

Complication symtoms: mood swings, paralysis, sadness
