Dear Friends,
2016 was a wild year, but after countless inspiring meetings around the world,
one theme stood out: benenoia, the opposite of paranoia. People everywhere
secretly conspiring to make the world a better place.
One of these Jedis is Dr. Arne
Fjortoft, founder of WorldView
International Foundation. Those
of us who meet him share the
experience of goosebumps as
he opens our eyes and heart to
tremendous potential of
mangrove restoration to
mitigate global climate risk.
Its an honor to share his new
years greetings with you.
Best wishes for 2017. Lets have
fun, think exponential, and start
a Tree-volution. May the forest
be with you!

Mangroves are one of the words most important biodiversity platforms. By filtering
water for sea grasses and coral reefs, mangroves are the critical link for powerful
Blue Carbon sequestration. These coastal areas of just 0.5% of earths surface
are responsible for 50% of global carbon sequestration. Able to live in salt water,
Mangroves sequester CO2 at up to 5 times the rate of dry forests, with permanent
storage in the ground. With over 110 species globally, mangroves act as a protective
bio-shield for coastal communities, and prevent soil erosion. Despite their vital role,
mangroves have been destroyed at 3 times the rate of rainforests, and are at high risk
of extinction globally. Lets plant a billion mangroves: www.Tree-volution.com

Happy New Year 2017!

My life has been blessed with two wonderful grandchildren. But the joy of
observing the miracle of new life, is overshadowed by increasing dangers of
climate change. Their global inheritance is my deepest worry. My generation has
unleashed dark shadows on their lives. Wishing them and others Happy New
Year in his context is not enough. It is time for action.
There is still a glimmer of hope: The good news is that nature can be mobilized
on our side. We can plant trees mitigating CO2 climate gases. And the most
cost effective action is to plant mangrove trees; mitigating up to five times more
CO2 than terrestrial trees and storing carbon permanently in the ground. In
addition, mangroves protect lives and properties from cyclones and other
extreme weather, filters and clean water for coral reefs and sea grass meadows,
provide cooling effect and create economic values. These are the only trees
growing in salty water, as a buffer between land and sea. It is a miracle
solution in adaptation to climate change.
We can rewind the destruction to our environment by restoration. Myanmar has
lost over 1 million Ha of valuable mangrove forests since 1980 (FAO). This

represents a potential of planting over one billion more trees. And Myanmar is
only one of 122 countries with potentials in mangrove restoration. Reversing
global losses of mangrove forests (three times more than rainforests) is a
wonderful opportunity for immediate action, a valuable New Year gift not to be
lost by inaction.
Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park in Myanmar is a pioneering project based on three
years research in cooperation with leading universities in marine science. After
the first test planting, the project has already 2.7 million new trees in healthy
growth as a start of ambitious targets in cooperation with coastal communities,
three universities and Myanmar Ministry of Natural Resource and Environmental
Conservation.
In partnership with Lykke, we are aiming at creating a new paradigm in
restoration of lost natural protection from climate change. This is the first project
of its kind providing a monetary value in strengthening natures own capacity to
secure a better future. CO2 mitigation has a value on the carbon market
presently around 5 USD per ton and expected to increase. This will be shared
with local communities and investors. It is a win-win revolution for all
participants. Everyone can contribute and benefit. We offer you an affordable
partnership: The cost of planting a tree is only one USD including bio-diversity
and sustainable development in vulnerable coastal villages. By using natures
own capacity, several benefits will be generated both for local as well as global
communities. This method is so simple and straight forward that it has still to be
recognized by those who are looking for complicated technological solutions,
still not properly tested and many times more expensive.
The TREE-VOLUTION is so simple and less costly that everyone can contribute.
We can all join together and be part of the solution. Our wishes for the new year
must be followed by action. We can look into the eyes of our grand children and
tell them we have contributed to a better world in solidarity with all the children
of the future!
Arne Fjortoft, a happy grandfather inviting all believers in our future to
contribute with action in 2017.
