1. Solution
Let, Ages of father and son are x years and y years respectively
Given,
The sum of the present ages of a father and his son is 54 years
x + y = 54
x + y 54 = 0 ..(1)
Seven years ago, fathers age was seven times the age of the son
x 7 = 7(y 7)
x 7 = 7y 49
x 7y + 42 = 0 ..(2)
(1) (2)
X + y 54 x + 7y 42 = 0
8y = 96
y = 12 years
Present age of the son is 12 years
After 7 years, sons age will be = (12 + 7) years = 19 years

2. Solution
Note: When a train passes a platform or a long object, the distance travelled by the
train, while crossing that object, would be equal to the sum of the lengths of the train
and length of that object.
We know that, Speed = Distance/Time
Let length and speed of the train be l meters and s m/s respectively, then according
to the question,
2|Page

Distance travelled and time taken by the train while passing the platform are (l+90)
meters and 30 seconds respectively,
30 = (l + 90)/s (1)
Also, it crosses the man in 15 seconds,
15 = l/s (2)
From equations (1) and (2) we get,
(l/15) = (l+90)/30 (both are speeds of the train)
l = 90 m
And, speed of the train s = 90/15 = 6 m/s
= 6 (18/5) km/h = 21.6 km/h.
Hence, the required speed of the train is 21.6 km/h.
3. Solution:

the Bhal region of modern day Gujarat.
5. Solution:
Arunachal Pradesh has a population of around 1.4 million on an area of 84,000
square kilometre.

6. Solution
Whenever an object is placed before a mirror, the image thus obtained is never
upside down (as we can see ourselves standing straight in the mirror) so option C is
ruled out. Moreover, the image thus obtained reflects the object as it is while in
option A tail seems to reflect head as shown below:

3|Page

This cant be true as tail should reflect tail only. Hence, option A is also ruled out.
Now we are left with option B and D. Lets compare them:

We can clearly see that B doesnt have same pattern on neck so option D is the
answer.
7. Solution
Chisel is used by sculptor while harrow is used by gardener.

8. Solution
As per the given information, after subtracting the required number from 1936, the
resulting number leaves a remainder of 7 when divided by 9, 10 and 15.
LCM of 9, 10 and 15 will be perfectly divisible by all three numbers.
If 7 is added to the LCM, it will leave a remainder of 7 when divided by all 9, 10 and
15.
In fact, if 7 is added to any multiple of their LCM, it will give the same result.
Now, 9 = 3 3
4|Page

10 = 2 5
15 = 3 5
LCM = 3 5 3 2 = 90
Any number of the form (90k + 7), will give remainder 7 when divided by all 9, 10
and 15. (here, k is an integer)
Now, lets check for the number of the form (90k + 7) that is nearest to 1936.
1936/90 = 21.51
when k = 21,
90k + 7 = (90 21) + 7 = 1897
Next such number will be 1897 + 90 > 1936
1897 is the resulting number that is nearest to 1936 and leaves a remainder 7 when
divided by all 9, 10 and 15.
Number that needs to be subtracted from 1936 to get 1897 = 1936 1897 = 39
required number is 39.

9. Solution
The only information given in the statement is that the Members of the Parliament
have opposed a new rule regarding disclosing their sources of income.
From this we cannot strongly conclude that all of them have additional disclosed
income and that is the reason for them opposing the rule. Thus this conclusion does
not follow.
Their protest against one rule cannot be safely concluded as their disrespect for the
court. Thus this conclusion does not follow either.
Hence the correct option is 3.

10.

Solution

Solution

A man swims at 5 km/h in still water. He takes 75 minutes to swim from position A
to position B and back in a river when it is flowing at 1 km/h.
Speed of the man downstream = speed of the river + speed of the man in still water
= (5 + 1) = 6 km/h
Speed of the man upstream = speed of the river - speed of the man in still water
= (5 1) = 4 km/h
Let the distance between A and B = x km. then,
Time taken downstream + time taken upstream = full time taken

Solution

Area of a square = side side

Given, square field of area 33124 sq. m.
side = 33124 = 182 m
Now, length of wire required to cover the field, that is, the perimeter of the field.
Perimeter of the field = 182 4 = 728 m
12 | P a g e

Now, wire has to be fixed at 4 different heights.

Total length of wire used = 728 4 = 2912 m
Now, the wire used to cover the field is 5% more than the actual length.
Length of wire used = 2912 + 5% of 2912 = 3057.6 m

From the diagram,

CD = a m and AB = b m
COD = 60 and AOB = 90
From COD,
CO = DO [Both are radius of same circle]
18 | P a g e

Opposite angles of equal sides of triangle are equal.

OCD = ODC .(1)
Sum of three angles of a triangle is 180
OCD + ODC + COD = 180

Let the old average be x runs

We know that,
Average = Sum of observations/No. of observations
Sum of runs scored in 13 innings = Average No. of innings
Sum of runs = x 13 = 13x
Runs scored in the 14th inning = 150
New average = x + 3
Sum of runs = (x + 3) 14 = (14x + 42)
Now, 13x + 150 = 14x + 42
x = 150 42 = 108
New average = x + 3 = 108 + 3 = 111 runs

8 men take 25 days 1 man will take 8 25 = 200 days.
12 women take 25 days 1 woman will take 12 25 = 300 days.
1 mans one days work = (1/200)
6 mens one days work = (6/200)
Similarly,
1 womans one days work = (1/300)
11 womens one days work = (11/300)
Now,
11 womens and 6 mens one days work = (11/300) + (6/200)
= 1/15
They will take 15 days to complete the work.
33 | P a g e

Alternate Method:
We know that,
If M1 persons can do W1 work in D1 days working T1 hours per day and
M2 persons can do W2 work in D2 days working T2 hours per day, then the
relationship between them is:
M1 D 1 T1 W2 = M2 D 2 T2 W1
Given that, 8 men or 12 women can do a piece of work in 25 days,
(8m 25) = (12w 25)
m = (3/2) w
Now, let the required work will be done in x days by 6 men and 11 women.
(8m 25) = (6m + 11w) x
Eliminating one variable by putting the value of m from our result,
{8 (3/2) w 25} = {6 (3/2) w + 11w} x
12w 25 = 20w x
x = 15 days
Hence, the required time to finish the work is 15 days.
