Message From Presidente Dayton

Charity Never Faileth

The thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians has one of the finest treatises on charity in all
of holy writ. It basically reminds us that charity is much more important than a lot of
other attributes and principles such as tongues, prophecy, wisdom, faith,
benevolence, caring for the poor, and hope. The chapter then tells us what charity is
and what characterizes it. According to Paul, it suffereth long, is kind, never envies, is
not self- absorbed, does not behave itself unseemly, isnt just interested in itself, is not
easily provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, bears all things, believes all
things, hopes all things and endures all things, and never fails. I reflect often on the
charity I see demonstrated in the care and love manifested by you missionaries as you
love, care for, pray for, lift, and bless the lives of not only your beloved investigators
but the less actives, the part member families, and the active members. Your very
presence in the mission field is an expression of the love that you have for your Savior.
When you stop and think about itthat is why you are here. When I interview
missionaries just entering the mission field, almost every one of them confirms that it is
their tender love for Jesus Christ and a desire to give back that motivates them to
leave their homes and their former lives to come to a foreign land and spread His
gospel.
Every Zone Conference we sing the song, Have I Filled the World with Love? Its
message is an important one: How will I conduct my life? Will I smile, be kind, be
helpful, lift others, and make the world a better place to live? Will I treat others as
Christ would have me treat them? Am I spiritually mature enough to forgive, serve,
and make the lives of others as important as my life. I know that those who spend
their lives loving and respecting and caring for their fellow men will please the Savior
and have a life of real meaning. As I watched the Spain Barcelona Mission baptismal
video I was touched by the thought that such great love and sacrifice is given by all
of the missionaries as they do everything in their righteous power to share the gospel
with those who dont have its light. I am so proud of you missionaries for the love and
charity I see manifested every day.
Preach My Gospel tells us that charity is a gift from God and that we should pray with
all energy of heart to be filled with it. (Moroni 7:48). It reminds missionaries that if they

follow that counsel and strive to do righteous works, love for the people will increase,
especially among those with whom they work. It also confirms that our love and sincere
concern for the eternal welfare and happiness of others will grow. You will understand
them and their points of view and you will be patient with them and try to help them
when they are having a hard time. It summarizes by stating, When you are filled with
charity, you obey Gods commandments and do all you can to serve others and help
them receive the restored gospel.
The importance of charity is underscored in Alma 7:24 which tells us that faith, hope and
charity bring the fountain of all righteousness. 1 Timothy 4:12 reminds us that true
believers will manifest charity and D&C 88:125 admonishes us to clothe ourselves with
the bond of charity. We also read that charity will cover a multitude of sins in I Peter 4:8.
Finally, 2 Nephi 26:30 summarizes that all men should have charity. When one thinks
about the attribute that most characterizes the Savior, charity has to be very close to
the top.
As we prepare to greet the New Year, my prayer is that we will remember what the
Savior taught his apostles at the Last Supper. He said, A new commandment I give
unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
What a wonderful world it would be if there were more love and charity and less
selfishness, avarice, petty self-interest, jealousy, unbridled ambition, and pride. May we
all have more charity in 2017, may we love and care for others with Christ-like charity
and may our very lives reflect our love of the Savior and His charity.
Sabiendo que la caridad nunca deja de ser,

Message From Hermana Dayton

Christmas Message from Hermana Dayton
Dear Missionaries,
Thank you for all you did to make our Christmas one we will forever remember. We
were so touched by your thoughtful gifts and written expressions of love. President and
I feel so richly blessed for the opportunity to serve with you in Spain.
While in the United States, I had much time to reflect on my experiences in this
wonderful country. I thought about the unique experiences we share with our focus of
bringing others to Christ. I know this is the most important thing we can possibly be
doing right now...and I know that we are saving many souls by helping people realize
the truths of the gospel. As I reflected, I thought about the ways I have changed over
the past 18 months, the things I have learned and the growth that I have
experienced. I thought about you...each one of you...and the growth I have seen in
you. I know that our Heavenly Father is pleased with your hard work and dedication in
bringing souls to Him and I know that He is pleased with your growth.
A few months ago, I had a wonderful conversation with one of our very seasoned
missionaries, one that I admire very much. I asked him to write down the things we
talked about. With the new year right around the corner, I felt it would be good to
share these thoughts with you as we think about the changes we want to make in the
coming year. The mission is change, repentance is change, progression is change. As
missionaries it is part of our calling to change our very beings, adopting the good,
putting the bad on the altar of sacrifice. Going along with the eternal principle of
agency, we have to allow the mission to change us. It does not happen automatically
but rather by choices, every second, every minute, every day. The Lord sends us to
areas, puts people in our paths so we can learn from them, nothing is for chance. This
applies to even the bad we sometimes see in the world, the Lord is teaching us what
works and what doesn't work. When we accepted our callings we accepted a
journey of change. God knows what we can become, and He will do anything in His
power to help us reach our potential, as we allow Him to mold us we will grow into
people that we never thought was possible. We will be able to do things that before,
we never thought possible. It is our job as missionaries and covenant children of God
to allow Him to mold us into those instruments He wants and NEEDS us to be. Change is
never comfortable but I am certain this journey of change will be the journey most
edifying and enriching of our lives as we look back to who we were, and realize what
we have become. I have seen this change in myself. Before the mission I was shy as a
cat! I was a kid Ill admit I was scared to go to the counter of a store and buy
something by myself, I dreaded public speaking, church talks and even my own
birthday as things such as those drew attention to me. The Lord has given me
confidence in the mission, He has blessed me with the courage to change,

He personally changed me into somebody who can stop a stranger in the street and
invite them to change. How can we as missionaries invite others to change if we arent
willing to change ourselves? This changing of oneself is a miracle, and just like any
miracle it requires faith!
In the Book of Mormon, Alma 5:12-13 we read this regarding Alma after he heard
Abinadi and believed his words, "And according to his faith there was a mighty
change wrought in his heart...and he preached the word unto your fathers and a
mighty change was also wrought in their hearts." Then in verse 14 we are asked this
question, "Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?" As we begin the
new year, my hope is that each of us will ask this question of ourselves...have each of
us experienced this mighty change? Can each of us continue to make mighty
changes this year to become more like the Savior, to be better disciples and
representatives of him? I know that as we prayerfully go before the Lord, and ask Him
how he wants us to change, we will feel the holy spirit confirm to us what we need to
do and how we need to change in our lives.
We love you and feel grateful for the opportunity we have to make changes...to
become better each day and more like the Savior. I believe strongly that the mission
field is the perfect place to become who we desire to be in life and who our Heavenly
Father desires us to become. I will be praying for each of you as you reflect on your life
and determine what direction to go in the coming year.

Much love, gratitude and admiration-Hermana Dayton
