RECRUITMENT POLICY WORKMEN

Posts and Pay:


MD will fix the strength, sanction pay or pay scales and create posts as may be necessary in the
Workmen cadre.
Norms Qualification, age, experience
Qualification:
In entry level, Workmen are recruited as Semi Skilled (D) Trainee and Semi Skilled (C) Trainee.
Qualification for Semi Skilled (C) Trainee: First class full time Diploma in relevant discipline.
Qualification for Semi Skilled (D) Trainee: SSLC and National Trade Certificate (NTC) i.e. ITI in
relevant discipline with not less than 60% of marks and National Apprenticeship Certificate.
For lateral entry, same qualification is specified with different span of experience for various
grades. Wherever required, qualifications such as 1st / 2nd class Boiler attendant certificate or
Nursing or Catering Technology etc. are specified.
Age:
Minimum age limit for direct recruitment is 18 years and the maximum age limit for each cadre and
category is prescribed by the Management. Company ensures that no child labour is engaged in
the operations of the company in accordance with the Act.
For Semi Skilled (C) Trainee and Semi Skilled (D) Trainee: Maximum General Turn-25 years,
BC-25 years, MBC/DNC-27 years, SC/ST-30 years.
Lateral entry:
Semi Skilled (D)(NTC holders) and Semi Skilled (C) (Diploma holders): Maximum General Turn /
BC-30 years, MBC/DNC-32 years, SC/ST-35 years.
Semi Skilled (C)(NTC holders) and Semi Skilled (B) (Diploma holders): Minimum 30 years
Semi Skilled (B)(NTC holders) and Semi Skilled (A) (Diploma holders): Minimum 35 years
Semi Skilled (A)(NTC holders) and Skilled (B) (Diploma holders): Minimum 40 years
Experience:
For Semi Skilled (C) Trainee and Semi Skilled (D) Trainee: Fresher
Lateral entry:
Semi Skilled (D)(NTC holders) and Semi Skilled (C) (Diploma holders): Minimum 5 years
Semi Skilled (C)(NTC holders) and Semi Skilled (B) (Diploma holders): Minimum 10 years
Semi Skilled (B)(NTC holders) and Semi Skilled (A) (Diploma holders): Minimum 15 years
Semi Skilled (A)(NTC holders) and Skilled (B) (Diploma holders): Minimum 20 years

Notification of Vacancies:
Vacancies in Workmen cadre are notified to concerned Employment Office under the provisions
of the Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, 1959.
District Employment Office is requested to send list of candidates within 15 days. If no candidates
are available, Non Availability Certificate is issued by Employment Office. Simultaneously,
requirements are advertised in Tamil Newspaper and also in TNPL Website. If Employment
Exchanges furnish list of candidates, those candidates who conform to the norms are considered
along with candidates responded to the advertisement.
Scrutiny of applications:
Initial scrutiny of applications is made by HR Department. Final list of candidates shortlisted
for Written Test in the case of entry level and direct interview in the case of lateral entry is
recommended by concerned Heads of Departments.
Written Test:
For the candidates conforming to the norms specified for entry level posts, Written test is
conducted by National Institute of Technology (NIT), Trichy.
Structure of the question paper:
Question paper will consist of 100 questions in relevant discipline / trade (Technical Test).
Each question carries 1 mark and duration of the test is 2 hours.
Marks to be secured:
To become eligible for interview, SC / SCA / ST candidates have to secure minimum 45% of marks
and others have to secure minimum of 50% of marks in Written Test. All the candidates who have
secured the minimum required marks in the Written Test are called for interview.
Selection Committee:
Selection Committee is formed with the approval of DMD.
Assessment in Interview:
Performance of the candidates attending interview is assessed for a total mark of 40 @ 10 marks
per factor. There are 4 factors viz., Job Knowledge, Aptitude, Communication Skills & Personality /
Attitude.
65% weightage is given to the marks scored in the Written Test and 35% weightage to the marks
scored in the interview. Final rank list for selection is prepared community wise by giving weightage
to the marks scored in written test and interview.
In the case of lateral entry, based on qualification, experience and performance of candidates in
the interview, Selection Committee recommends suitable candidates for appointment.

Release of Appointment Order:


After obtaining MDs approval, appointment orders are released to the selected candidates.

Warning to prospective applicants / candidates


Recruitment is done in TNPL as per the above policies. Hence, the applicants / candidates are
advised not to get cheated by third parties.

However management reserves the right to amend / change norms relating to qualification, age
and experience for any specific requirements, if necessary.
