Dua of laylatul qadr

Aisha radi Allahu `anha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet
(Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) If I knew which night is Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of
Power), what should I say during it? The Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) told
her to say:
Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibul afwa fafu anni.
O Allah, indeed You are the Pardoner, You love to Pardon, so Pardon me. [Tirmidhi]
From all of the du`a of the Quran and Sunnah, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa
Sallam) specified this du`a for the last 10 nights, showing us how profound it is.
One of Allahs beautiful names, al-Afuww (the Pardoner), appears five times in the
Quran.
Al-Afuww comes from the root afw, which means to hide, obliterate, or remove
something. This meaning connotes pardoning, which is when one looks over a
anothers error and does not take them to account for it.
On the Day of Judgment, we may find that many sins we committed are not in our
record; this is afw, which is when Allah completely removes your sins from your
record as if you never committed them.
When it comes to afw, Allah (swt) says:
And He pardons much. (42:34)
Al-Afuww pardons His Servants by not calling them to account for their sins and
erasing their sins from their records.
Why do we make this du`a during the last 10 nights?
The scholars say that if this du`a is answered, we will inshaAllah (if Allah wills)
come on the Day of Judgment with our sins completely erased from our records.
Ramadan is the month of mercy and forgiveness, so how successful will we be if we
not only have our sins forgiven but also have them completely erased!
Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibul afwa fafu anni.
O Allah, indeed You are the Pardoner, You love to Pardon, so Pardon me.(Tirmidhi)
As the Believers enter the wide open doors of Paradise, the Angels will start to greet
them by saying, Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide
eternally therein! [they will enter]. (Quran, 39:73)
The Angels will welcome the Believers congratulating them on their hard work and
perseverance, Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured! And excellent is
the final home. (Quran, 13:24)
The Believers will also have the honor of receiving the greeting of Peace, a word
from a Merciful Lord. (Quran, 36:57)

We see why the attribute of Mercy is mentioned in this ayah: Allah (swt) out of His
Love and Gratitude for the Righteous will greet them in Paradise.
You may win a chance to visit the White House, but the chance of having a special
welcome from the President is very slim.
Allah (swt), The King of Kings, The Most Majestic and Powerful, will greet and
welcome His beloved slaves in their new home.
Put yourself in Jannah now: imagine your Lord the One who you called upon
privately, the One who you bowed your head to, the One who you kept away from
sins for, the One who you thanked for your blessings greeting you with Salam as
you
enter
Paradise.
Imagine
what
you
would
be
feeling.
Allah (swt) recorded the reaction of the Believers in the Quran and its probably
exactly what you were thinking: Praise to Allah, who has fulfilled for us His promise
and made us inherit the earth [so] we may settle in Paradise wherever we will. And
excellent
is
the
reward
of
[righteous]
workers!
(Quran,
39:74)
