Chapter 1: Overview
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide instructions to Oracle partners on the access and usage of the WW
A&C file transfer mechanisms available on ftp.oracle.com and ftps.oracle.com. This document will cover the
usage of both the anonymous and restricted directories of ftp.oracle.com.
FTP accounts are required to access the restricted ftp directories, please contact your Oracle representative for
assistance with ftp.oracle.com account provisioning. FTP accounts are NOT required to access the anonymous
directory on ftp.oracle.com.

Security Considerations
When at all possible, the use of a secure FTP client is encouraged. Information on how to use and obtain such
clients is mentioned below.

Key Topics & Concepts

FTP Utilities

Traditional FTP transfers can be performed to ftp.oracle.com with most any FTP utility. However, this
document provides very simplistic step by step instructions on how to use one specific FTP utility, FileZilla. It is
possible the instructions in this document will not work on every FTP client, but the concepts should be the
same.

File Types

Some OPN Boot Camp files will be stored on ftp.oracle.com as compressed and encrypted files. In those cases,
you will need to decrypt them using a password provided by your Oracle representative. Winzip, 7zip, and
Winrar are the primary file compression utilities used by Oracle. You can obtain these tools at the following
locations:
www.winzip.com
http://rarsoft.com/
http://www.7zip.com/

Chapter 2: Directory Structure

Before accessing ftp.oracle.com or ftps.oracle.com, it is important to know the directory structure that will be
accessible to you as a partner. The potential structures are explained below:

OPN Boot Camp Directory

The OPN Boot Camp Directory is a specific directory set up for the transfer of files related to OPN Boot Camps.
When you log into ftp.oracle.com, you will be presented with a / which indicates you are at the OPN Boot
Camp Directory. In most FTP tools, when you double click on the / above, you will be presented with the
directories and files below the directory you clicked on. Clicking on the / after logging in will result in the
following directory structure:
/static
/transfer

The static directory is the primary location where Boot Camp files will be located. The transfer directory
may also be used from time to time. Each OPN Boot Camp will also have a Product Name Directory where you
will find the appropriate files. Your Oracle representative will provide you the exact Product Name Directory
such as the examples listed below:
/static/WLAL
/static/Database Security Options
/transfer/Siebel

Anonymous Directory

The anonymous ftp.oracle.com directory is sometimes used to transfer files to partners in time sensitive
situations. Your Oracle representative will provide the specific directory path, but it will look something like
the following:
/ftp/anonymous/sales/outgoing/mdsmith
All files stored on the anonymous directory will be encrypted and your Oracle representative will provide the
appropriate password.

Chapter 3: Secure FTP Transfers Windows

Client Software FileZilla Download and Configuration Instructions
One of the most common Windows clients that is capable of secure File Transfer is Filezilla. This document
provides download and configuration instructions for FileZilla, only. However, the FTP configuration would be
the same for any other FTP tool although the UI would look different.
Due to issues with the latest FileZilla version and access to ftps.oracle.com, this document recommends
downloading FileZilla version 3.0.11.1 as instructed below. Oracle does not warrant the operation of FileZilla in
any way and is not responsible for any issues created by the installation of FileZilla.

Download and Install FileZilla 3.0.11.1

1) Got to http://www.oldversion.com/
2) Enter FileZilla in the search box as shown below:

Page 6

3) Scroll down and click on the 3.0.11.1 version as shown below:

4) Complete the installation as directed via the install shield

FileZilla Basic Usage Instructions for Access to the OPNBoot Camp Directory
This document does not go into great detail on how to use FileZilla. However, it is a GUI interface and is very
easy to use. File transfer is achieved by simply clicking and dragging from source to destination. A simple
example is shown below:
1) Start FileZilla
2) Click on the Site Manager circled in red below:

Page 12

3) Select the ftp.oracle.com Site you just created and click on Connect.
NOTE: the Oracle FTP partner Boot Camp password is reset every Monday and Thursday, please contact
your Oracle representative if the password you were originally given is no longer working.

Page 13

4) If everything was configured correctly and your account setup is completed, your FileZilla window should
now look something like this with a / in the Remote Site field and the Static and Transfer directories
listed underneath:

Page 14

5) Double click on the static directory and you will get a list of all of the current OPN Boot Camp

directories currently available for download. This list changes constantly and your Oracle
representative should provide you with the specific OPN Boot Camp directory to begin the
required download.

Page 15

6)

Click on the directory with the appropriate product name and drag it to the appropriate folder on your PC.
The example below shows the ECM directory being dragged from the /static/ECM directory to the
E:/Download directory on a local laptop. Taking this action will start a file transfer and you can watch
the progress in the bottom box.

7) While you may be able to download all of the OPN Boot Camp directories listed, the actual files are
encrypted. Once you download the required file(s), use the password provided by your Oracle
representative to decrypt the file(s). You are then ready to use the files for your Boot Camp.

8) Disconnect
To disconnect from ftps.oracle.com simply close the FileZilla application or hit the disconnect button.

FileZilla Configuration for Access to the Anonymous Directory

Chapter 4: Secure FTP Transfers Linux

Client Software
One of the most common Linux clients that is capable of secure File Transfer is lftp and is available at the
following URL : http://lftp.yar.ru/ (Click Download Link)
Installation of lftp is beyond the scope of this document, but if the binary is unavailable on the machine you
are utilizing, you should contact the Linux system administrator for the machine so discuss how to proceed.

General Usage
To ensure secure file transfer the steps below need to be followed in the correct order.

Connecting
1. Start lftp by running it from the command prompt: [ppan@rs00 ~]$ lftp lftp :~>
2. Issue the following commands with lftp to setup the secure transfer: lftp :~> set ftp:ssl-force true lftp :~> set
ftp:ssl-protect-data true
3. Open a connection to the ftps.oracle.com site: lftp :~> open ftps.oracle.com lftp ftps.oracle.com:~>
4. Connect with your user account. You will be prompted for your password: lftp ftps.oracle.com:~> user ppan
Password: lftp ppan@ftps.oracle.com:~>
At this stage you should now be connected ftps.oracle.com and ready to perform a transfer. You can
confirm by issuing the ls l command:
lftp ppan@ftps.oracle.com:~> ls -l
drwxrwxrwx 2 88 32767 4096 Oct 27 22:57 static
drwxrwxrwx 2 88 32767 4096 Oct 27 22:57 transfer
lftp ppan@ftps.oracle.com:~>

3. Navigate to this directory: /sales/incoming. Note that you will not see any contents in this directory.
This is expected.
4. Copy your content directory (or zip file) to the /sales/incoming directory. Note that when the copy is
complete you WILL NOT see the it in the directory. This is expected.
