As a milestone along this corpo rate philosophy, it may be cited that,
for the first time as a compressor manufacturer in Thailand, SCI received
TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
Award from JIPM (Japan Institute of
Plant Maintenance) in 2006. Recently
Toyota Thailand and the other automobile concerned manufacturers have
visited SCI to observe the TPM system.

A JARN reporter visited the Siam

Compressor Industry Co.,Ltd.(SCI)
during the Bangkok RHVAC Expo in
September, inquiring the factory.
SCIs factory is located in Chonburi province, on the eastern side of
Thailand. The coast line continues
along the Gulf of Thailand and is
120 km east of Bangkok. Nearby, the
factory is at the Port Laem Chabang
which is well known as a trade port,
and the area around the factory is also
famous as an industrial zone. Agriculture, manufacturing and tourism are
also active.
SCI is supplying compressors to
markets in 45 countries across the
world. Established as a joint venture
company between Mitsubishi Electric
Corp. (MELCO) and Siam Cement
Group (SCG) backed by Thailands
royal family.
SCI commenced production of
Thailands 1st rotary compressors,
and since has continued to expand the
business. By constructing the 2nd factory in 1995, in 2002 SCI constructed
the 3rd factory, starting production of
Frame Compliant Scroll compressors
with highly advanced technologies.
Factory site area: 166,400 m2
Factory building area: 40,500 m2
Employees: 1,960 in 2007

In the mean time, the joint venture agreement between MELCO and
SCG was cancelled in 2001,and SCI
became a fully-owned subsidiary of
MELCO. However, corporate culture
of SCG has harmonized with MEL COs management based on advancing
technologies, thus continuing to form
the strong foundation of SCI.

TPM Award

SCI, which may be said to form

a Green industrial city, is situated in
an environment rich land, just being
worthy of a factory aiming to manufacture environment friendly products.
SCI obtained the ISO 9001 in 1994,
obtained ISO 14001 in 1997, beginning production of compressors for
R407C. In the same year SCI also
opened Southeast Asias 1 st R&D
Center for compressors, further re inforcing the capacity for developing
improved compressors and air conditioner (AC) application technologies.
To these activities, SCI had the honor
of receiving the Millennium Business
Award for Environmental Achieve ment from the United Nation Environmental Program (UNEP) in Budapest,
Hungary.

which the global warming issue is attracting international attention. SCI is
expanding the high efficiency series
and particularly reinforcing the larger
capacity models with high efficiency.
Inverter driven compressors, in particular, will play an important part in
solving problems in the way of ACs
such as crude oil / raw material price
rises and regulations of energy saving.
SCI is producing and shipping the
TNB series twin rotary compressors
covering 2 - 4 hp, and the ANB series
scroll compressors covering 3 - 10 hp
as high-end models. Also, SCI offers
a combination of plural units to meet
applications requiring over 10 hp. The
ANB series scroll compressors are
variable speed units using R410A and
having the worlds highest efficiency.
These compressors will be increasingly adopted in various types of AC
equipment which are required to use
alternative refrigerant and realize high
efficiency.
SCIs production recorded 2.2
million units in 2006. The current
production capacity is 3 million units,
including 0.4 million scroll compressors.
Both energy and global warming
issues are affecting markets in many
countries and regions, and, because
of this, high reliability and efficiency
are becoming major requirements for
ACs to survive severe competition.
Since fluctuations of AC markets are

increasing year after year, it is also

required to meet demand timely. SCI
has taken steps to quickly meet market fluctuations and changeg by preparing high efficiency models using
alternative refrigerant, and also endeavoring to improve their application

Unit has three production bases.
1. Shizuoka Works in Japan.
Products ; Inverter rotary compressors for R410A,and rotary for CO2 &
R134a.
2. M G C ( M i t s u b i s h i E l e c t r i c
Guangzhou Compressor Ltd. ) in
China.
Products ; Rotary compressors for
China domestic market.
3. SCI in Thailand.
Products ; Rotary and scroll compressors for all of the world market.
In the case of development and production, MELCO Compressor Business
Unit team activates the improvements
of technologies on MELCOs extensive
range of technologies for artificial satellites, semiconductors, factory automation equipments, heavy electrical appliances and home electric appliances.
