FCA Video Production

A note to parents
Howdy I'm Deborah Laird,
Because my class was not offered in the fall semester of 2016, I would like to welcome you to
the 2017 spring semester. I am honored to be a part of the FCA community teaching video
production, and I know this will be an incredible class.
To break the ice let me tell you a bit about myself. This will be my sixth year teaching at FCA. In
1999 I graduated from Al Collin's College in Tempe Arizona with my associate's degree in visual
communications. Due to an internship I had at Daystar, I was immediately offered the position of
chief editor and designer for Daystar's local Denver station, KRMT-TV-41, after my graduation.
After 12 years of working for Daystar, my skill set grew to include directing, camera operation,
and even a bit of audio and lighting. Eventually leaving me as the Denver production manager. I
am currently finishing a bachelor's degree in screenwriting from Southern New Hampshire
University. I was married for over 14 years, but I am now widowed. I have two children, JC and
Glory, who both attend Faith Christian Academy in the junior high and elementary school.

This class
Video production is a time sensitive activity. It demands working with technical and electronic
equipment, as well as up-to-date software to create a basic video composition. It requires that
each student is willing to work to create a cooperative environment. They will have to show
leadership and servant skills as they work with the different personalities of students and
teachers while working on both group and individual projects.
This class will touch on the basics of creating a video from conception and scripting all the way
to the output of a final video project. Students will develop skills through a series of lectures, inclass assignments, field exercises, critical evaluations of production and composition principles,
along with creating several video compositions.

Required class materials

Parents may help by:

Parents, I encourage you to ask your student about the work done in class. They should be
proud to show you their creations. So take time to look at their videos, and while you are at it,
take the time to be in their videos. Providing a means for your student to work in the lab at
school events or on field shoots. Activity outside of school may be needed. This class may
require outside participation. Please let me know if there any special provision that your student
may need to help him or her achieve success in this class. Again provide help by being talent for
videos. Help them on the Internet to research films or video clips or just let them explain what
they have learned. By simply sharing yourself you might be the perfect sounding board for your
kids.

Warm regards,
Mrs. Deborah Laird
