STIMULATION

Fe-2 Iron Sequestering Agent

Iron hydroxides tend to precipitate from spent acid following an
acidizing treatment, resulting in flow restrictions. Fe-2 agent is
one of two additives in Halliburtons Fe Acid system that together
help prevent the precipitation of hydrated oxides of iron as the
hydrochloric acid (HCl) spends. Fe-2 agent is the iron-chelating
agent, while Fe-1A agent is a pH-control agent.

pH control is based on the action of a weak acid that reacts much

more slowly on limestone, scale, and other acidsoluble materials
than the HCl. While the pH remains low, the iron will not
precipitate. Sequestering is accomplished when the ions of iron are
complexed with the additive so that they remain in solution, thus
reducing the formation of plugging precipitates. The synergistic
blend of the two conditioners functions more effectively than either
of the components alone.

Features
Fe-2, a solid packaged in a 50-lb bag, is used with Fe-1A and HCl
to form Halliburtons Fe Acid. Because of Fe-2, Fe Acid system is an
effective and economical ironretention acid, able to hold more than
100,000 ppm iron when used at double strength.
Benefits
As a conditioning agent in Fe Acid, Fe-2 has the following benefits:
It is an effective iron-sequestering material.
It is suited for acidizing associated with disposal and injection
wells where an iron deposit is present.
It is part of an effective and economical iron-control system that
can be used in stimulating oil- and gasproducing wells.
