other chemicals are handled or toxic chemicals may be present. Safety Shower & Eye
wash units shall meet the requirements of IS: 10592. No. of SS & EW to be provided
for units shall be as per process hazard/safety requirements. Water shall be fed from
drinking water line. If drinking water lines are laid Above Ground (A/G), the same shall
be insulated in such a way that temperature of water shall not exceed 250C. Any
boosting pump required to enhance the drinking water pressure is in Contractors
scope. Discharge from safety shower & eye wash shall be connected to neutralization
pit. Battery waste discharge from building (Control room cum sub-station) and
discharge from EWSS (safety shower & eye wash) is to be connected to Neutralisation
pits by Package contractor with HDPE pipe (refer 7-65-0310). Further, from
Neutralisation pit outlet to storm water drain through RCC pipe. HDPE pipe,
Neutralisation pit, RCC pipe is all in the scope of Package contractor.
2.9

FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM


Contractor shall design, engineering, testing, commissioning, supply of all materials
and install the fire protection system considering the following and as per licensors
recommendations, OISD / TAC, NFPA and other international codes, specifications
and standard appended hereto. The following fire protection measures are envisaged
in the contractors scope, but not limited to:
-

Tapping from main FW (minimum two tappings) network including isolation


valve, matching flange, fittings and valve pit on tapping line (refer scope
drawing A307-OID-16-47-0416).
Firewater header (ring) with hydrants & monitors around coke storage yard &
buildings. Minimum three nos of Long range water cum foam monitors are to
be provided around circular coke storage yard for coverage (refer scope
drawing). Hydrants around buildings to be provided for coverage. Platforms and
access shall be provided to Monitors for their operation.
Any boosting pump required to enhance the fire water pressure is in EPC
contractors scope.
All hydrants & monitors shall be provided with isolation valve.
Hydrant shall be as per drawing no. A307-0IY-16-47-4921 & other criteria shall
be as per specifications.
RO (restriction orifices) at hydrant outlets to reduce the pressure to 7 kg/cm2.
RO (restriction orifices) at tappings of water spray system to keep the system
pressure in the range specified in the TAC/ OISD rules.
High velocity sprays nozzles for the spray system.
Underground Fire protection piping shall be provided with in RCC Trenches.
Automatic (deluge) High Velocity Spray system (as per OISD and rules of TAC)
shall be provided on oil filled transformers having oil capacity 2000 liters or
more and actuated through Quartzoid bulb (QB) and control shall also be
manual, local through push button and remote from control room.
Drainage pit to be provided for transformer oil & fire water.
