Useful Information on Student Admission to Nanyang Girls’ High

School through Entrance Examinations

1. Admission Procedures
F The applicant submits application for entrance examination.
F The school verifies information on application against supporting documents.
F The applicant sits for entrance examination.
F The school conducts interview with shortlisted applicants if necessary.
F The school admits successful applicants in January 2010.
F Admission of successful international students is subject to approval of Foreign
Student’s Pass application.

2. Admission Criteria

F Age

Secondary 1 12 to 14+ 1995 to 1997

Secondary 2 13 to 15+ 1994 to 1996

Secondary 3 14 to 16+ 1993 to 1995

We do not take in students at Secondary 4 level as students will not have sufficient
time to explore the Integrated Programme curriculum.

F Performance at the entrance examination and interview (if necessary).


F Academic e.g. school records (past 3 years).
F CCA achievements e.g. school representative and won awards in competitions at
national level, etc.
F Good personal and leadership qualities.

3. School and Miscellaneous Fees


School Fees
(a) The monthly rates for students who are Singapore Citizens are as follows:
Level/Year 2009 & thereafter

Sec 3 & 4 $250

(b) The monthly rates for students who are Permanent Residents are as follows:
Level/Year 2009 & thereafter
Sec 1 & 2 $240
Sec 3 & 4 $300
(c) The monthly rates for Foreign Students from ASEAN countries are as follows:

Sec 1 & 2 $400
Sec 3 & 4 $500

(d) The monthly rates for Foreign Students from Non-ASEAN countries are as follows:
Level/Year 2009 & thereafter
Sec 1 & 2 $500

Miscellaneous Fee
All students are required to pay miscellaneous fee of $750 per annum. It covers the
following items:
• Student Protection Plan (Group Insurance)
• School newsletters / publications
• Pupil transport for events like field trips and learning journeys
• Registration for selected external competitions
• Information & Communication Technologies Education
• Subscription for e-portal and e-mail account
• Material for Home Economics practicals
• Lifeskills camp for lower secondary
• Sabbaticals-electives programmes
• NYAA registration

4. Chinese and English Language

All students in our school offer Chinese Language as a subject.

Successful applicants may be required to attend intensive English course on their


own expense, at the discretion of the school.

5. Integrated Programme (IP)

The IP is a 6-year through train programme which allows students to skip the GCE ‘O’
Level examinations, enjoy a 4-year enriched curriculum before proceeding to Hwa Chong
Institution for a 2-year course to prepare them for their GCE ‘A’ Level examinations.

The school believes in nurturing and moulding innovative and effectively bilingual
individuals who are proud of their heritage and have a strong sense of compassion. Our
programmes are customized to meet the demands of a dynamic and fast changing world.

Our learning tasks are self-directed and authentic. Our students are responsive, reflective
and responsible. Bypassing the GCE ‘O’ Level examinations allows students to engage in
more in-depth learning.

6. Donations to the Education Fund

An international student is requested to make donations to the Education Fund of the


Ministry of Education if her application to study in Singapore is approved.

The donation of S$1,000 for every two years of study should be made within the period
stated in the Letter of Donation.

Thereafter, the donation should be made in advance every two years. The biennial
donations are applicable to international students of all nationalities who seek admission
to schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute for the academic year beginning in
January each year.
International students whose parents are Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent
Residents, or holders of work passes, who are admitted from 1 Jan 2001 onwards, are also
requested to make the biennial donations to the Education Fund.

The donations to the Education Fund are eligible for tax-exemption and the official receipts
can only be made in favour of either the parent or the foreign student.

7. Guardian

The international student is required to provide the particulars of her guardian to the
school for contact purposes. The guardian should be a Singapore Citizen/ Singapore
Permanent Resident above 21 years old OR the parent of the international student if the
parent is working/staying in Singapore.

An international student should report any change in guardianship to her school.

8. Boarding Facilities

Nanyang Girls’ Boarding School is the only all-girl boarding school in Singapore with a
maximum capacity of 494 boarders. It aims to provide a warm and comfortable home for
girls as well as a conducive environment for imparting life skills.

The boarding fees per person per month are exclusive of GST:

(I) NYGH students

(II) Students from other schools


Singaporeans & PR S$830
Foreign nationals S$980

Additional charge per month for air-conditioned rooms:

(I) NYGH students


2-3 bedders S$50
4 bedders S$40

(II) Students from other schools


2-4 bedders S$80

The boarding fee includes 24-hour security, meals and laundry.
