assure the clients quality requirements.

Purpose

To ensure conformity of the product as per ASME, EN Standards and additional Saudi
Aramco requirement.

Document Reference

ASME B16.20 Metallic Gaskets for Pipe Flanges (Ring Joint, Spiral Wound, Jacketed)
ASME B16.21 Non Metallic Flat Gaskets for Pipe Flanges
IR Form 175 060100 Saudi Aramco Inspection & Testing Requirement for Metallic GASKETS.

Procedure

Inspection Procedure for Gaskets is as follows;

1) Document Review:
For Metallic Gaskets:

Inspector to review the purchase order and its attachments i.e. approved
drawings and manufacturer catalogue (If available) pertaining to the
Gaskets.

Review the Material Test Certificates of the Gaskets to be inspected. MTC

should be legible, identifiable and with proper references to the purchase
order and it is advisable to check the original copy.

An MTC should have the identification no. (Document/report/certificate

No.). It should show the date of issue.

MTC should mention the melt/heat or any other identification so that the
material can be traced.

Clients additional requirements and supplementary requirements need to

be identified pertaining to the Chemical Composition, Mechanical
Properties and the Heat treatment details before reviewing the MTC.

Chemical Properties: Chemical properties should be verified with respect

to the applicable ASTM specification.

Mechanical Properties: Mechanical properties as per applicable ASTM

specifications should be verified.
The hardness of Ring Joint Gasket shall be according to API 6A.

All the MTC after review should be stamped Reviewed with signature and
position of the reviewer. Only reviewed MTC should be offered to Third

party inspector. This MTC should have the correct reference to the
Purchase Order and its item nos.

For Non- Metallic Gaskets:

Inspector to review the purchase order and its attachments i.e. approved
drawings and manufacturer catalogue (If available) pertaining to the
Gaskets.

Review the Batch Certificates of the Gaskets to be inspected. Batch

Certificate should be legible and identifiable to the purchase order and it is
advisable to check the original copy.

All the MTC after review should be stamped Reviewed with signature and
position of the reviewer. Only reviewed MTC should be offered to Third

3) Visual Inspection: Visual inspection is performed to make sure that the

Gasket to be inspected is free from physical damages, surface irregularities and
other defects.

4) Dimensional Inspection:

Dimensional inspection will be performed to verify that the dimensions are

in compliance with the approved GA drawing. Moreover for dimensions
ASME B16.5 will be referred.

Dimensional Inspection of Metallic Gasket will be performed as mentioned

below:
o Ring Joint Gaskets Table 3 to 8 of ASME B16.20
o Spiral-Wound Gasket Table 9 to 11 of ASME B16.20
o Jacketed Gasket Table 21, 22 or 23 of ASME B16.20

For Dimensional Inspection of Non-Metallic Gasket refer:

o Section 5 of ASME B16.21

5) Marking Inspection:

o
Manufacturer Name or Identification trademark.
o
ASME B16.20 Designation

Gasket number prefixed with R, RX or BX followed by Gasket material

identification

For Spiral Wound Gasket: The Spiral Wound Gasket shall be marked with the
lettering height 0.1 inch minimum. The centering ring of each spiral wound
GASKET shall be permanently marked with:
o Manufacturers name or trademark
o Flange Size (NPS)
o Pressure Class
o Winding Metal Abbreviation (Table 19, ASME B16.20)
o Centering and Inner ring metal abbreviation (Table 19, ASME B16.20)
