Jobdescription
TheOfficeforNationalStatistics(ONS)islookingfor14EconomicResearcherstoplayakeyroleinthe
growthofoureconomistcommunity.PostswillbebasedatONSheadquartersinNewport,betweenCardiff
andBristol,andatourTitchfieldsiteinFarehamwitheasyaccessofSouthamptonandPortsmouth.Itisan
excitingtimetojoinushereattheONS,aseconomistsplayanincreasinglyimportantroleinanalysingand
reportingontheUKschangingeconomy.Thesepostswillbenefitfromtrainingandon-the-jobexperience
tosupportpostholderstosittheGovernmentEconomicServiceFastStreamandqualifyforpermanent
status.
Successfulcandidateswillhavetheopportunitytoworkonkeyeconomicindicatorsthatarepublishedby
ONS,whicharevitaltoeveryimaginableareaofourever-changinglives.Theseindicatorsandeconomic
statisticsaremoreimportantthaneverbefore,withaneverincreasingdemandforinformation.Theseroles
offertheopportunitytobothbecomeexpertinyourareaofUKeconomicdata,butalsotodeveloparange
ofanalyticalskillswhichyoucandeployinyourfuturecareer.TheONSoffersanopportunitytoworkwitha
widerangeofstakeholders,andtomanageyourownworkload.Weareseekingself-starterswhoare
confidentinworkingwithdataandexplainingthemeaningoftheanalysisyouundertake.

continuousservice,youwillbeofferedapermanentcontract.Therefore,whenthefundingexpires,ifyou

redeploymentorworkforcemanagementprotocols;
Ifyouarealreadyemployedbythecivilserviceonafixed-termcontractandhavelessthan4years
continuousservice,youwillbeofferedafixed-termcontract.
Ifyouarenotcurrentlyemployedbythecivilservice,youwillbeofferedafixed-termcontract.
CurrentCivilServantswillretaintheirexistingsalaryifjoiningonleveltransferormovetotheminimum
entrypoint,whicheverisgreater.CivilServantsjoiningonpromotionwillreceiveeithertheminimumentry
point,or10%ontopoftheirbasesalaryintheirsubstantivegrade,whicheverisgreater.Onlyinvery
exceptionalcaseswillsuccessfulcandidatesbeconsideredforahigherstartingsalary.
