ABSTRACT:
In his search of Truth, St. Augustine met St. Paul very soon and, from his conversion, his life was marked by that encounter with remarkable effects for Western Christianity. In the following pages I present the reader, in the first place, the evidences of
that encounter: the continuous and increasing use of Pauline writings by Augustine. In
a second section, I stop in two of the most qualified moments of that encounter: his
conversion and his presbyterial ordination. In relation to the first one I defend the historicity of the fact of the Confessions; in relation to the second one, I indicate how St.
Paul was part of the projects of the newly ordained presbyter. In a third section, I try
to show that the Shepherd of Hippo mainly used to the Apostle as exemplum and
auctoritas within the framework of the ecclesial reception of the classic culture.
Exemplum, for St. Augustine himself, of how to exert the pastoral ministry; and
exemplum of Christian life, for the set of the faithful; Auctoritas to support and to
deepen the faith of such faithful and with which defend it against heresies. The last
part turns on how the exegete of Hippo interpreted St. Paul, presenting three interpretative instances: the text, the norm or regula fidei and the addressees in each concrete
situation; instances that respond to a triple condition of St. Augustine respectively:
grammarian, believer who seeks for intelligentia of his faith and shepherd of the Church.
The result is a remarkable mobility in his interpretation of St. Paul. The conclusion
contains a brief judgment on the augustinian method.

Expuestos Rm 4,5; 5,5; 1Co 1,13; 11,29; 13,7; Ga 5,19-21; 6,5; Ef 4,2-3; 5,27; Flp
1,15-18; 2,21; 3,15; 1 Tm 5,22; y 2 Tm 2,20, destaca seguidamente estos argumentos
doctrinales a manera de tesis: 1) Autoridad de la Escritura; 2) Fuerza de la Tradicin;
3) Historia del Cisma; 4) Unidad y santidad de la Iglesia; 5) La cuestin sacramental;

ABSTRACT:
Saint Paul was for St. Augustine a referent of light and strength and his certain
master at the time of thinking and speaking. In return, he reached with his brilliant
disciple a more expansive and sonorous voice, made thought and harmonic resonance
of the western theology. The rhetorician of Hippo knew how to take the maximum
advantage to his specialty in the Donatist dispute and he had good hand on putting
together Scripture and Traditions, History and Dialectic. Only this contentious is treated
here as a monographic argument, not the whole Augustine nor the one of the other
controversies. The author mainly flows from the antidonatist corpus, analyzing the
Pauline texts more used in him. After the exposition of Rm 4,5; 5,5; 1Co 1,13; 11,29;
13,7; Ga 5,19-21; 6,5; Ef 4,2-3; 5,27; Flp 1,15-18; 2,21; 3,15; 1Tm 5,22; and 2Tm 2.20,
he emphasizes the following doctrinal arguments as thesis: 1) Authority of the Scripture; 2) Force of the Tradition; 3) History of the Schism; 4) Unity and sanctity of the
Church; 5) The sacramental question; 6) The unity and the peace; 7) Charity and unity;
and 8) The evil of the schism. From all of this appears Paul the impassioned one for
Christ, the enamored one with the Church, the one that sings the sacramental excellences, the incomparable one of the unit in the charity, the very present one of the
justification, the very helpful one of the ecumenism when he alerts against the divisions, the studied, invoked and proposed one in the actual kairos of the Pauline Year.
The Donatists gave St. Augustine the opportunity to resort to the Apostle and to offer
us with his influence the most sublime of Christology, Ecclesiology and Grace in the
century-long Western. All above amply proves that our antidonatist Augustine was
radical and genuinely Pauline and, as a consequence, extraordinarily Christological and
Ecclesiological.

ABSTRACT:
This article sheds light on the organization of items in Saint Augustines De moribus
Ecclesi catholic, and provides a new index of the Pauline texts which appear in this
work. In addition, the author selects for analysis, among various Augustinian texts in
which these appear, certain examples which seem most interesting on the basis of
Augustines exegetical creativeness or of their philosophical, theological and moral
teachings.

ABSTRACT:
With the help of Paul and Augustine, the authors offer a general view of particular
pauline text: 1 Tm 2,4. From biblical and patristic perspectives it touches on the theological and dogmatic contents of the biblical text (1 Tm 2,1-7). With the help of exegesis, using literary and retorical analysis, textual criticism and theological interpretation, it puts into consideration the biblical message and the heterodox opinion of
Pelagius beside the augustinian interpretation of 1 Tm 2,4. Later, it continues to study
the answer to the Pelagian opinion in selected augustinian texts, trying to distinguish
the continuity of the controversy on the figure of Julianus of Eclanus.
The pauline doctrine leaves us in 1 Tm 2,1-7 one of the most well known christological texts with strong echoes in the field of Theology through the ages, such as we
can see in the example of Augustine and Pelagius. Another aspect is the augustinian
doctrine that embraces with fervor the Word of God, no saving efforts and constant
attention to believe and understand, to understand and believe. Pelagius and his followers, defending loyally their posture, disagree in anthropology and soteriology; in
front of this, Augustine responts affirming that the Word of God as revelation cant be
partial or ambiguous: the divine will of salvation is His Word, the man Jesus Christ,
the Mediator of the divine grace and the Saviour of all mankind.

As, el Apstol

ABSTRACT:
Two thinkers and christian preachers like Paul and Augustine reflect about the faith
of Jesus. The faith fulfills an important role in both thinkers, but it is not the centre of
their theology. Now, we dont study the pauliner faith in his controversial viewer, for
instance, faith and justification, faith and Law. Here, we study the pauliner faith from
his owner theology to the light of actual exegesis. For Paul, faith is fundamentally
believe in Christ, to listen his Gospel to the light of his predication. And the Christians have to live an d to keep their faith in their normal life.
For Augustine, an enthusiastic follower of Paul, the faith is an instrument to get
him near to God and then establishes the faith through reason. For Augustine it is essential to believe in order to understand, for understanding is to believe. To gain reason to the faith is to discover to be near himself to Jesus. In the writings of Augustine, we have encounter extraordinary pages about the faith and how the faithful live
the faith.

ABSTRACT:
I will begin by explaining the meaning of liturgical feasts in general and then offer some facts about the lives of two exceptional converts, St Paul and St Augustine. I
have attempted to focus on the date of the institution of the feasts of their conversions.
Having briefly explained the history of Martyrology and the Liturgical Calendar, we
can now perhaps better appreciate what is meant by the conversion of Paul the Apostle and Augustine the Bishop of Hippo. Since the earliest centuries the importance of
an event such as Pauls conversion on the road to Damascus has merited the institution of a feast. Some have related the transfer of Pauls remains to the cemetery on
the Ostian Way as the historical root of the celebration. Before the end of the first
millennium the celebration was extended to the whole Church. A similar honor has been
afforded to the conversion in of St. Augustine, although this occurred many centuries
later. The importance of such celebrations can be understood in two ways. Firstly the
conversion of the Apostle appears in the Liturgical calendar of the universal Church
and that of the Bishop of Hippo in the particular and local calendar. Secondly and most
importantly, these feasts underline the great and universal influence of Pauls encounter with Christ. It is this encounter revealed through his writings that so many have
read throughout the centuries both within and outside the Church. Although in a different way, the feast of the holy and wise Bishop of Hippos encounter with Christ has
had a significant influence not only in his own time but also throughout history, and
which remains in force today thanks to the relevancy and vibrancy of his writings. In
all of this, thanks as well, to the conversion of both these men.

ABSTRACT:
Saint Augustine developed his doctrine on grace not only by reflecting on the letters of St. Paul; he was also very much inspired by the apostles remarkable conversion on the road to Damascus. The sudden and radical change in faith and sentiments,
transformed the life of the Pharisee Saul. The cruel persecutor of Christians subsequently
becomes an untiring apostle of Christ and his gospel. This story of conversion often
came to the mind of the bishop of Hippo when he wanted to emphasize the absolute
gratuity and the great efficacy of the grace of God. The conversion of St. Paul is considered by Augustine as an extraordinary example of the grace of God who bestows
his mercy upon those whom he wishes, without taking into account human merit. On
the basis of that conversion, St. Augustine has drawn various and legitimate conclusions not only in the religious order (no sinner needs to despair; the prayer of the Church
is efficacious), but also in the political order, justifying the intervention of the emperor
in matters of faith.

Agustn.

ABSTRACT:
Augustines Ecclesiology found inspiration in Pauls Ecclesiology. Both joined the
Church after a conversion process that made them appreciate the reception of Baptism
as a rite of incorporation to the Church. Among the images used to describe the Church,
the paper focuses specially on the images that underline the relationship between Christ
and his Church. On Pauls letters, Augustine reads that the Church is the Body of Christ,
from the dual perspective that appears in the Pauline letters, according to Pauls
theological evolution: the Church as the body of Christ and later, Christ as Head of
the Church. Paul deepened more and more the mystery of Christ, whose fullness
(pleroma) is the Church. This body of Christ grows by the Word, Baptism and Eucharist.
Other pauline images of the Church are Bride of Christ, Mother and also Virgin,
betrothed to Christ, with deep Old Testament roots. Augustine made a theological
development of these images. Therefore, we can talk about the presence of Paul in
Augustine, but also of an Augustinian interpretation of Paul, an Augustines Paul.
