Primary & Intermediate Math-Sci Quiz Bee


Contest Rules:
1. A participant from each grade level shall comprise of a team. These teams shall compete with
each other. Intermediate- 2 teams with 2 members each.
2. Primary- 1 team with three members each.
3. Questions shall be from Math, Science and Health subjects. Submitted questions from
coaches 2 questions for each subject and for each level of difficulty which will be drawn in a
box by the Quiz Master.
4. Each question shall be read twice by the quiz master. After reading each question, the quiz
master shall say go, only then will the teams write their answers. The group who will violate
such rule will be given a warning up to the second count and will be automatically disqualified
on the 3rd count.
5. There shall be three rounds of questions; Average- 6 questions 2 questions each for Math,
Science and Health ( 2 points each)
6. Difficult- 6 questions ( 3 points each)
7. Easy- 6 questions ( 1 point each)
8. Easy questions shall be given a 5-second time limit. Difficult questions shall be given a 15second limit. For questions that require computations, an additional 30 seconds shall be given.
9. Average questions shall be given a 10-second time limit. For questions that require
computations, an additional 20 seconds shall be given.
10. Answers must be clearly written on the boards that shall be provided by the teams.
11. When the buzzer sounds after the time limit, the teams shall stop writing and raise their answer
boards.
12. Wrong spelling shall be considered wrong.
13. Answers that are considered as measurement must have a unit of measure.
14. In case of a tie, a clincher question will be given to the contestants and knock-out rule will be
applied. That is, the first group who answers the question correctly will be declared as the
winner.
15. In case of a dispute with a question or answer, the Board of Judges shall have the final ruling
regarding the validity. In case a question is in dispute, the Board of Judges may consider
replacing it with another question. All points gained from the question in dispute shall be reset.
16. Queries or questions from the contestants and or coaches will be entertained after the
announcement of the correct answer. Once the next question is given, queries about the next
question will not be entertained. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
17. The team with the highest total score shall be declared as winners.

The contest is on the spot.


Drawing and slogan should revolve around the theme.
The number of words should not be more than ten.
Contestants are given one and a half hour to finish their poster/ slogan.
Contestants should bring their own drawing materials. Oil pastel will be the only medium color.
Slogan should not be written in the Carolina or drawing material prior to the conduct of the contest.
Sketches/ patterns are not allowed to be carried by the contestants inside the contest hall.
Violation of the above rules will lead to the disqualification of the contestants.
The decision of the judges shall be final and non-appealable.
The entries shall become property of the UMC Schools.

Contest Mechanics: Science Investigatory Projects


1. The manuscript of the School entry shall be endorsed by the coach noted by the School Heads:
The Pastor Administrator and the Principal.
2. The research paper must conform to the rules for Science Research. Each project is expected to
have a research adviser.
3. The project display shall use any paper board that summarizes the project and shall focus on the
proponents work for the current school year. A safety regulation is strictly imposed. Copy of the
required write up and slide presentation showing the salient features of the project must be
prepared and ready if requested by the Board of Judges.
4. The format and flow of activities for the contest shall be declared before the start of the contest by
the Board of Judges.

Contest Mechanics of Demonstrating Cycles (Coaches submit two (2)


cycles Grade 1 Level for demonstration to be drawn on contest proper.
Contests are given one hour to organize.)
Criteria
Accuracy of the cycle sequence presentation
Clarity of presentation/ Appropriate oral explanation
Discuss/Express/ Describe/ Illustrate /Demonstrate in a
variety of ways (e.g. singing, whispering, striking an object,
use of five senses when possible, etc.)
