Plant and Animal Cells Virtual Lab

Journal Questions
1. Cells are like factories because of these 5 qualities:
1. They both take up raw materials and use energy to produce waste and finished
product.
2. All cells have a place to work in certain jobs like factory workers.
3. Ribosomes can be compared to the workers as they both produce materials such as
protein for ribosomes.
4. Vacuoles can be compared to the warehouse of the factory as it is both used for
storage.
5. Cytoskeleton can be compared to the structure of the factory, holding everything
together.
2. Animal and plants both have: Cytoplasm, Ribosomes, Mitochondria, ER, Nucleus,
Microtubules, Golgi apparatus. They are different as plant cells have Chloroplasts, their
shape is different (Animal:Round, Plant:Rectangular) Plant cell has a cell wall, and
animal cells have cilia.
3. The plant cell most similar to solar cell is the chloroplast as they produce energy from
sunlight through photosynthesis. This process is called the cellular respiration.
4. The nucleus can be thought of as the control center of a eukaryotic cell because it
contains most of the genetic material that carries the instructions for the cell's operations.
5. The scientist should study the shape of the cell as plant cells are rectangular and animal
cells are round. They should also check for chloroplasts and cell walls as animal cells
dont contain those.
