Profit motive helps align

the social constructive forces in tune. A society cannot progress just through creative instincts of
individuals, there must be a mechanism to channel all the individual achievements and individual
ambitions onto to a productive social purpose. Profit motive acts as a converter that helps attain social
objectives through the collation of individuals subjective determination.
Power over people can be very dangerous, one can take the example of Hitler. The Second World
War and holocaust were the worst events in the human history that involved the practice of power over
people by Hitler. On the contrary power over things can have some social implications too but they are
not as damaging as the power over people. For example a government officer may have power to
approve or disapprove a certain licence. This power over thing may result in power over people but
this can be controlled through strict social practices and rules.
In conclusion, I would like to highlight that the profit motive provides constructive path for social

A company has revenue from selling a product or service.
This revenue is then used to pay for the costs of the products or service such as materials, wages,
rent, taxes, ect.
The bit of money left over from all costs, expenses, and bills is the profit.

Non profit organisations survive just the same as any other organisation. They simply do not focus
purely on making profits. They generally have a defined purpose or are run by dedicated individuals
who believe in the work the organisation does. One could argue that the Australian Government is a
Non Profit Organisation.
A great example of a Non Profit Organisation is Wikipedia. Yes, you called classify it as a charity as its
revenue is mainly donations, but what is wrong with that. Its content isn't influenced by advertisers or
3rd parties with a different agenda, who may 'corrupt' the information available. Also Instead of
charging its millions of users money for the service they recieve, Wiki asks for a donation every now
and then (Very similar to a subscription service). Only those who want to give back to the organisation
for the service they recieved, do. This forces the organisation to maintain a low cost structure,
lowering overheads and greatly improving efficiency. The power of the organisation remains with the
users, instead of a select few who can push their own agenda. Wikipedia could easily make billions in
profits if it wanted to, but it has a different motive.cy and the power over thing is less dangerous

About the Wikipedia, it is an organization that runs on charity to operate its day to day activities.
Where do you think the charity comes from......... yes you guessed it right people who earn and have
profit motive and also organizations who have profit motive, they have surplus profits so that they can
give charity to organizations who fail to do so. Also about corrupt information being influenced, that is
a conscious decision the organization has to make. They can choose to stay incorrupt and operate on
their own without charity. Wikipedia is a renowned website and used by billions of people all over the
world. It can allow advertisement on its web site like other commercial website do and earn sufficiently
to run on their own. But, that path is not what Wikipedia has chosen (till now).
We can take example of Microsoft a multibillion company founded by Bill Gates, an organization that
is a classic example of an organization that thrives on profit motive. We also know Bill Gates runs a
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which is a Non-Profit Organization. Hence, we can say organizations
based on profit motive help create opportunities for other Non Profit Organizations.

Yes Sawroop profit motive indeed is very important and also the most socially
efficient way to channel all the individual ambitions into a productive social outcome.
It not why organization cannot run without profit motive but why it should not. Profit
motive helps to create opportunities for individuals interest and utilize them in an
organized fashion. Profit motive drives competition which in turn helps an
organization be more efficient and innovative, to achieve a competitive edge.
I would like to argue comments made by Brijesh. Profit motive as you said is an
undeniable part of private ownership, well my friend I would like to enlighten you so is

the public ownership, unless it is run on charity which is a different scenario. The
thing is, every business to operate must have some value for profit motive or else the
organization is sure to stop operating soon. The organizations simply need to pay
wages and bills to operate. Without profit motive no organization can sustain and this
applies in all the organization not just the private or public ownership ones.
