The document provides instructions for painting concrete walls, including:
- Allowing new concrete to cure for 14-28 days before painting to allow alkalinity to reduce.
- Applying a neutralizer like Boysen Masonry Neutralizer diluted with water to remove alkalinity, leaving it overnight to produce white crystals which are then washed off.
- Priming with Boysen Flat Latex, then applying putty and two additional topcoats of latex for a smooth finish. Mineral paint is suggested as an alternative for direct application on cured concrete. Proper curing and neutralizing helps prevent moisture issues.

If new concrete, kailangan ng 14 to 28 days na curing time bago tayo magpintura. (Kailangan ito para lumabas ang alkalinity ng semento at maiwasan ang mapa-mapa pag nag-apply na tayo ng pintura.) Tapos nito, pahiran ng Boysen Masonry Neutralizer #44 para lasunin ang semento. Huwag purong neutralizer and ilagay. 1st Coat: Boysen Flat Latex #701 Putty: Boysen Masonry Putty (masilya) 2nd & 3rd Coat: either Flat Latex, Semigloss Latex or Gloss Latex PWEDE RIN Kung ayaw nang lasunin pwedeng gumamit ng Acrytex Primer instead of Flat Latex bilang primer. Pero kailangan pa rin ng curing time na 14 to 28 days bago magpintura.
Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?
An alternative (for new concrete only) that doesn't need all the many steps and associated waiting time would be mineral paint. No neutralizer, no washing off, no primer coat. Just apply the recommended number of coats of mineral paint directly on the cured concrete. Supposedly, mineral paint would be 'breathable', instead of sealing, which could be an advantage when there is potential for trapped moisture problem. Also has a different look/texture than impervious coatings that some may find appealing. Not saying better than conventional paint, just an option to consider. The concrete neutralizer, only works by removing alkali build up by using acid. (normally weak acid, if it is strong they recommend you to add water in the label). If it is already neutralized, the alkali in your wall will not attract moist that may damage the paint. Cement is naturally humectant in nature, it attracts moist in the air, making your wall perspire.. This is bad for your paint, it will strip off your paint from the wall, that's why curing or neutralizing is important.
Re: [H] Paano po pagpaint ng wall?
correct me if i am wrong but after i have applied the neutralizer, i let it stay overnight or upto 48 hours and wash off the white flakes (by scrubbing or by pressurised water hose)...when i feel the wall is completely dry from all the cleaning i then apply the primer. in one Ace paint label, i read that a month old concrete need no neutralizer anymore and should be ok with the first coat of primer..i am talking about my favorite Stain Halt by Ace. (does the acid in the cement eventually wear off? i dont know...) and thankfully recently paint companies came up with a bright idea of these siliconized paints acting well as a moisture barrier...i just make sure i painted the exterior wall twice of the same paint before i do the interior... but hey guys, if there is a better way than what i know please share it then. (coz painting walls are the things i enjoy most in DIY weekends) tia
For Interior concrete walls I usually do as follows:
Neutralize with Boysen conc. neutralizer(any brand will do) Wash off crystalline deposits Prime with flat latex apply appropriate putty(either flat latex with patching compound or gypsum putty) sand until smooth, re-putty if necessary. apply 1st, 2nd and final coat of latex paint.(lately being fond of using sun and rain products) for exterior applications: prime with boysen acrytex primer. putty with acrytex cast sand until smooth finish with either acrytex top coat, semi gloss latex or any exterior elastomeric paint. HTH!
(Applying Neutralizer, Usually in 2-3 days pwede na hugasan ng tubig.
For latex paint only acri colors should be used. Your finish coats can be flat, semi-gloss or gloss latex. Sun and Rain is an elastomeric acrylic paint available pre-mixed with a variety of colors. I like it as it is in my preferred "egg shell" finish.
