Methodist Church links hijab to terrorism

in Supreme Court appeal case

he Methodist Church of Kenya has

launched a spirited battle to reverse
the landmark ruling by the court of
Appeal which affirmed that is part and parcel of freedom of conscience and religion
for Muslim female students.
The church in a petition to the Supreme
Court claimed that calls to allow Muslim female students to wear the hijab are part of
a violent campaign of violence, radicalization and terrorism by Muslims in East Af-

rica.
It went on to say that the hijab does not constitute an integral part of the freedom of conscience, religion, beliefs
and opinion as protected by article 32 of the constitution
but calls to allow Muslim girls to wear the hijab in schools
were instead being driven by fundamentalist teachings
of Muslim scholars that informs contemporary terrorism
in Muslim countries and Islamic radicalism.
In September last year, a three judge appellate bench
sitting in Nyeri overturned a high court ruling made in
October 2014 which had banned the wearing of hijab

county.
In the ruling, which the appeal judges emphasized that
they were for the first time
in the judicial history of the
country authoritatively pronouncing the vexed issue of
free exercise of religion in
public schools-made it clear
that it was a constitution right
for Muslim girls to wear the
hijab while in schools.
Appellate Judges Philip
Waki, Roselyne Nambuye
and Patrick Kiage went on to
advise the Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matinagi
to facilitate urgent consultations and formulate appropriate regulations for the better
protection of the fundamental right to freedom of religion and belief under Article
32 of the Constitution and
equality and freedom from
discrimination under Article
27 of the Constitution for all
pupils and students in Kenyas educational system.
But the ruling appears to
have incensed the Methodist
Church which has gone back

ensure that Muslim girls are

matter and work with other stakeholders who include the Supreme
Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) and other agencies to address the concerns.
As he called on the area county assembly to legislate laws that will
assist to curb and fight moral decay in the area, the Garissa SUPKEM chairman Abdullahi Salat noted that immorality and other social evils are rife in the Muslim dominated area hence the need for
concerted efforts and measures to be put in place to fight the trend
in the society.
He singled out vices such as prostitution, drug abuse and the
consumption and sale of miraa and alcohol as some of the immoralities and practices that are having a negative bearing on the
society.
Abdullahi said the society need to be sensitized against immorality
and involvement in harmful practices that have been blamed for

To tame the rising cases of moral degeneration, leaders in Garissa county have resolved to come up with legislation to curb immorality.
The county assembly is planning to enact laws restricting the consumption and sale of mirra and alcohol which have been blamed
for being a major contributory factor to the moral decay.
During a consultative meeting with the County assembly members
recently, religious and opinion leaders raised concerns about the
prevailing social evils and called for measures to protect the people against immorality.
Our role as an assembly is to pass legislation for the county, conduct oversight for the functions of the county executive and represent the interest of the people. We will try and find solutions to
the issues that have been raised by the clerics, said Muhammad
Abbey, the speaker of the county assembly.
He said the county assembly will seek a lasting solution to the

Thousands throng TSS burial in Mombasa

Thousands of people turned up for the
burial of prominent Mombasa businessman Tahir Sheikh Said who passed away
on Tuesday January 10 in a South African hospital where he had been taken for
treatment.
The business man, popularly known as
TSS had been ailing for months and had
been admitted at the Milpark Hospital in
Johannesburg.
His body was flown to Mombasa on
Wednesday and buried on the same day
at Sarigoi Muslim Cemetery in Ganjoni in
accordance with Islamic doctrine.
The funeral prayers were held at the
Sheikh Nurein Mosque and attended by
the former Chief Kadhi Sheikh Hammad
Kassim, prominent Mombasa scholar

Sheikh Harith Swaleh and local leaders

who included the Mvita MP Abdulswamad
Nassir and the Mombasa Senator Hassan
Omar.
The one time kingmaker in the coastal
political circle will be remembered for supporting and spearheading the construction
of Islamic projects in the region and for his
compassion and generosity towards poor
families and the unfortunate in the society.
The businessman owned several companies ranging from transport and logistics
milling and petroleum industries. He was
also the owner of TSS Towers, one of the
prominent landmarks in Mombasa.
Family, relatives and friends eulogized him
as great philanthropist who served humanity and put smiles on the less fortunate

denied their right to wear the hijab as per
the teachings of their faith.
The court of Appeal ignored and or
glossed over evidence and submissions on
record which clearly show that the violent
campaign and demand for Muslims girls to
wear hijab was an offshoot of an Islamic
fundamentalist agenda to promote Muslim
exceptionalism in Africa and to radicalize
Muslim population in Eastern Africa particularly in Northern and Coastal counties
of Kenya as opposed to a conscientious
wish of the students to wear the hijab,,
read part of the petition filed by a Nairobi
law firm Kinoti and Kibe and company advocates.
While faulting the Court of Appeal, the
Methodist Church said that the ruling will
promote ideological conflict between Muslims and Christians and will contribute to
insecurity in the country. The judgement of
the Court of Appeal, unlike the High Court
took a dismissive attitude towards the fact
that in Isiolo county, the spread of Muslim
fundamentalist ideologies and practices
that invariably include enforcement of hijab
for girls have been on the rise and is a definite factor in rising recruitment of Muslim
students by Al Shabbab, Islamic State and
other terrorist groups, said the petition.
The Church went ahead to state that allowing hijab will narrow the gap of dressing and social life for Muslim girls in the
country and place them in situations experienced in closed societies and Islamic
dictatorships.
Further, the Methodist Church in its petition described Muslims as adherents of
closed societies and fundamentalist who,
at the first opportunity, would be inclined to
dismantle the existing State and establish
theirs in our image and values statement.
The church is seeking a declaration from
the Supreme Court to declare that that the
wearing of hijab by Muslims students is discriminatory, unlawful and unconstitutional
and seeking an injunction prohibiting Muslim students at St Paul Kiwanjani Mixed
Secondary School to wear the headscarf
and a pair of trousers.

Page 2

Nairobi lawyer Ali Mahmoud who is repenting the petitioner Muhammad Fugicha, a parent from Isiolo who had initially
taken the matter to court after the school
administration banned the wearing of the
hijab, described arguments put forward by
the Church as nasty, outrageous, myopic
and alarmist saying that they were aimed
at creating a wedge between Muslims and
Christians in the country. The petitioners
grounds are populist and sensational and
they are so laced to seek sympathy of the
court. They further seek to create a wedge
between Muslims and Christians in the
country, he said.
He stressed that the ruling of the court of
appeal was fair, independent and impartial as it correctly made a finding that the
school have violated the rights of Muslim
girls.
He praised the ruling saying that for the
first time, the legal system accommodates all Kenyans equally under the law.
The high court has been giving conflicting
judgements on this matter. It has never adjudicated nor pronounced the principles of
equality in a coherent manner, he said.
Making his submission, Ali Mahmoud said
that hijab is symbol of chastity and modesty and not merely a code of dress. In
almost all Christian texts, the Virgin Mary
is depicted as putting on a headscarf (hijab). Catholic nuns all over the world do the
same, he said.
As citizens of this country and like any other tax payer, Muslim girls as minority are
entitled to equal protection of the law and
non-discrimination for the tyranny of majority, he added.

Employ local youth as teachers',

Lamu residents urges gov't
Residents in Lamu County have called
on the national government through the
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to
employ trained teachers from the area to
address the teachers' shortage.
At the same time they appealed to the government through the education ministry to
re-open up five schools that were closed
over terror attacks in 2015.
The calls by area residents are following
reports that teachers posted to Basuba,
Milimani, Mangai, Mararani and Kiangwe
primary schools are reportedly to have declined the offer citing fear of al Shabaab
attacks.
Speaking to the press at Basuba ward in
Lamu County the residents led by Gurba
Ali, the parents' representative said the
community is facing challenges especially
in Lamu East Sub-county where non-local
teachers have refused to venture into the
region due to insecurity resulting in an education crisis.
Gurba said the exodus of teachers has
worsened the education standards in the
region and that they have many qualified
youths from the area who can take up
teaching at various schools in the region
without fear if employed by the TSC.
"We have information that those who were
posted here don't want to come. Let the
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) hire
our own. We have people who have trained
as teachers and they can work here without any fear,'' Gurba said.
He said children from Lamu County, just
like their counterparts in other parts of
the country, have every right to education,
adding that there was an urgent need for
Teachers Service Commission to consider
local youth for the teaching jobs.
The schools in the region have remained
closed as others across the country resumed first term classes on Wednesday
last week, a situation the parents said was
unacceptable.
Residents have been complaining of lack
of teachers in schools in the area saying their children are now dropping out of
school as there are no teachers.
Non-local teachers fled the area after the
Mpeketoni and subsequent attacks in 2015
fearing their lives.

Hijama: A forgotten source of barakah

Najat Haddouch
How often do you find yourself saying
this? How often do you wake up feeling
stressed, fatigued and unable to do the
things you want to do? Do you often find
there is little barakah in your time because youre always tired?
Our state of mind affects the physical
condition of our bodies. Growing pressure in the workplace, our personal
lives, and the influx of information from
the internet and social media all create
a stressful environment. Sometimes we
are unaware of how it can affect us. So,
what can we do about this? One thing we
can try is to revive the sunnah practice
of hijama, or cupping, procedure that
strengthens both your physical and mental health. Following the example of the
Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
is a sure way to bring barakah into our
lives, and having a peaceful mindset and
good physical health are key in gaining
productivity. In this article, I will discuss
the benefits of hijama and what it can do
for us.
Toxins in our body
Can you imagine the detrimental effect of
carrying a poison in your body? During
the day, our bodies encounter poisonous
compounds called toxins, which can be
found in:
Pesticides in our food
Chemicals in our water
Pollution in our environment
Prescription drugs
Additives in food, such as colourings,
preservatives, flavourings and GMOs
Cleaning products
Non-stick pans
Personal products like toothpaste, talcum powder, cosmetics, aerosol hairspray and deodorant
A lot of money is spent on medical care
every year in an attempt to restore our
health, yet how many of these remedies
actually work? Although these prescription drugs may help our ailments, do they
cure the root of the problem the toxins?
There is a solution; we need to revert back
to the wisdoms of our beloved Prophet
Muhammad peace be upon him. There
is an entire field of study dedicated to
Prophetic Medicine, most famously, the
practice of Hijama (wet cupping). With
the help of Allah and the sunnah of our
beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be
upon him, our bodies can regain optimal
health and energy, in sha Allah.
Detox your body
Toxins work by increasing or decreasing
the speed of various bodily functions,
which can cause many health issues that
negatively impact our energy levels, ultimately making us less productive.
It is difficult to avoid toxins, as they are
all around us. Therefore, it is important to
detox your body from time to time. De-

toxing is a growing trend that helps the

body remove toxins. Here are a few ways
you can detox on a daily basis:
Cut down sugar intake
Eat a healthy and balanced diet
Drink lots of water
Exercise regularly
Switch to organic foods
Get proper sleep
Drink two cups of green tea every day
A successful detox can have amazing
health benefits, changing the way you
feel and think. Here are some other effects of a successful detox:
You feel lighter as excess waste and
toxins are expelled from your kidney and
colon.
You are less likely to contract diseases
as your immunity improves
You can lose weight faster
Your skin, hair and nails will improve
You will have clarity of mind and more
energy
Although the idea of detoxing has grown
in popularity over recent years, ridding
our bodies of toxins is an idea that has
existed since the very beginning of Islam.
What is Hijama?
The term hijama is derived from the Arabic word hajim which means sucking.
Hijama is an Arab medicinal technique
used to expel toxins from our bodies. It
does this by creating a vacuum to draw
blood from a small skin incision. It is a
safe, non-invasive and economical way
of curing and preventing diseases. Hijama can be performed almost anywhere
on the body, however, there are six
points on the body where hijama is most
effective; performing hijama on these six
points alone can clean the entire cardiovascular system!
Hijama was recommended and used by
the Messenger of Allah peac ebe upon
him as the best remedy for any kind of
ache or pain. The Prophet said, The
best (treatment) which you take is cupping. [Sahih Muslim]
The practice of hijama forms an integral
part of Islamic Prophetic Medicine, and
many scientific studies have proved its
effectiveness. Hijama is often mistaken
as a bloodletting technique, however,
bloodletting opens veins and bleeds the
patient, whereas hijama uses suction to
draw blood from a specific location by
scratching or perforating the skin only.
Before performing hijama, the target
area is disinfected. A cup (made of metal,
glass or plastic) is placed on the chosen
site of the skin and a tight seal is created. Traditionally, a piece of paper or
cotton was burnt inside the cup so that
the mouth of the cup clings to the skin.
Today, vacuum pumps are used to draw
out air and seal the cups to the skin.

Dont be afraid
The thought of having their skin cut and blood
drawn out can be unnerving for a lot of people, especially if you are uncomfortable with
the sight of blood. However, it is important to
know that incision is not deep, and most people dont feel more than a small scratch. You
should always have the procedure performed
by a professional trained in hijama, and talk
through any fears or concerns you may have.
Hijama practitioners often have clinics but can
also visit you at home. It is a good idea to have
someone with you for support, and remember
that the Prophet peac ebe upon him would not
have recommended something that was bad
for us, as Allah says,
There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone
whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and
[who] remembers Allah often. [Quran: Chapter 33, Verse 21].
As Muslims, we will benefit greatly by adhering to the sunnah, as the Messenger of Allah
said, Whosoever has revived one of my Sunnah, has in fact loved me. And the one who has
loved me, will be with me in Paradise. [Jami
at-Tirmidhi]
Some people have hijama done every month,
every three months, or even once a year as
preventative measure. It is entirely up to the
individual and the type of treatment their body
requires. For the days you do decide to have
hijama, the Prophet Muhammad peace be
upon him recommended certain days of the lunar calendar for it to be the most effective.
Anas ibn Maalik reported that the Messenger
peace be upon him said, Whoever wants to
perform cupping (hijama) then let him search
for the 17th, 19th and 21st [Sunan Ibn Majah].
Reap the benefits
The believers performed hijama purely as a
sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him,
but there were others who did it for medical
benefits. Cupping has been used as a cure for
diseases in many countries like China, Greece
and Egypt and even became a popular therapy
in Europe in the early nineteenth century. Hijama is believed to draw out bad blood, therefore, it holds countless benefits:
Unclogging the meridians in the body, releasing energy
Prevention of diseases
Effectively curing digestive problems, joint
and muscle pain, asthma, sciatica, fever, skin
problems, low fertility, all of which arise from
excessive toxins in our body
When practised along with fasting and praying,
hijama provides a you with a further cleanse

Muslim Parenting-whats and hows

The human being is comprised of two entities: the body and the
soul. What do you think is more important of the two: the body
which acts as a container for the soul, or the soul that is responsible for all actions and deeds of a person? Indeed, it is our soul
that is more important.
Get inside any supermarket and you will find a plethora of items,
ranging from soaps and shampoos to pedicure and manicure kits,
from whipped cream to bread and butter, everything for the needs
of our body. No doubt, these cannot be altogether neglected, but it
has something for us to think about: Do we spend an equal amount
of time and energy on the health and hygiene of our souls, as we
spend on our outward appearance? Is it that we are smart and
shining from head to toe, but the soul inside us is suffering from
malnutrition (Quran being its food)? It wasnt cleaned (Tazkiyah)
in ages and now has been infected with countless diseases. If our
souls come out of the bodies, will they also look as beautiful as the
body does or will they be stinky, lice ridden souls?
New and soon to be mothers are on the lookout for advice. Countless books, internet and magazine articles revolve around the topic of parenting. However, most of them only talk about the physical
aspect of child rearing; health, hygiene, food etc. and the spiritual
side is often ignored, or limited to some ritualistic deeds. Every
child that comes in this world needs nutrition for the soul as well.
Choosing the spouse The first step to parenting!
Parenting does not start with the child; it goes back to choosing
the father or mother for the child. Children follow and absorb everything that their parents do, it is the parents that make the child a
Majoosi or a Christian or a Muslim. The son will go to the Masjid
if his father does (of course there are exceptions), a daughter automatically will love the hijab if her mother wears it and will try to
imitate her. Thus, at the time of marriage priority should be given
to Deen, instead of wealth and looks. This is the advice of our

beloved Prophet (peace be upon him): A woman is married for

four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her
religion. You should marry the religious woman (otherwise) you
will be a loser. (Bukhari)
Umar bin Khattab was once asked about the rights of a child. He
replied: That his father carefully chooses a mother for him, that
he gives him a good name and that he teaches him the Quraan.
Under the umbrella of duas
Throughout the Quran we find the anbiya of Allah praying for righteous children. Indeed, duas can work wonders. They act like umbrellas protecting from the rain and sunshine, from the fitnas of
this world. Start praying for a righteous offspring before he/she
comes into the world.
Prophet Zakriya (alayhi sallam) asked Allah for a righteous offspring: My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed,
You are the Hearer of supplication. (Surah Al-Imran 3:38)
The Mother of Maryam (alayha sallam) prayed after her birth: and
I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan,
the expelled [from the mercy of Allah]. (Surah Al-Imran 3:36)
The dua of Ibrahim (alayhi sallam) is recorded in the Quran in
these words: My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous. (Surah Saffat 37:100)
Surah Furqan mentions the dua of the believers: Our Lord, grant
us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and
make us an example for the righteous. (Surah Furqan 25: 74)
The Quran food for Soul
Nowadays music is considered as food for soul, however, the
fact is otherwise. Music makes hypocrisy grow in the heart just
like water makes herbs grow. The blaring music coming out of
toys, television and radio is a major threat for our Imaan. For

Ritual Purification: Baptism and Islam

The word Baptism is a derivation of the Greek word baptizo

meaning to immerse or submerse. There is no doubt whatsoever
in the mind of every Greek scholar as to what the Greek word for
baptism might mean. The meaning is simple, clear and straight
forward, immersion or wetting wholly by way of submersion.
Perhaps this is why John the Baptist was baptizing where there
was much water. A truly baptised Christian is therefore the one
who was baptised by way of immersion into the water. There is
nowhere in scripture where one can interpret baptism other than
immersion or submersion.
According to Christianity whilst repentance is an inward decision,
water baptism is the outward decision which seals up the inward
condition of the soul after repentance. Moreso, water baptism is
an absolute requirement that cannot be substituted.
Subsequently, the doctrine of salvation would be incomplete without it. Thus, the practice of baptism by the church is an ordinance
in its own rite just as much as the Holy Spirit Baptism.
Henceforth, the importance and significance of Baptism is seen in
the sense that baptism is done for the purpose of being cleansed
or freed from sins, thus, marks the final separation of a believer
from the old nature.
The Muslim Jurists agreed that there two types of purification by
water: the minor purification carried out before prayers, the sources of the identification of the acts of ablution is the descriptive laid
down in the words of the Exalted, O ye who believe, when ye rise
up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbow
and lightly rub your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles
(Al-Quran 5:6) and the method of performing ablution traced to
the prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) in the wellestablished transmission (Riwayyah).
As for major purification, the basis for this kind of purification are
the words of the Exalted, And if ye are involved in a major hadath
(ritual impurity), purify yourself (Al-Quran 5:6).
The sources of the description of the act of major purification is
established in the traditions relevant to the subject of the Prophets
bath, in tradition of Aisha she says; When the messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) took a bath after intimacy, he would first wash
his hands. He then poured water from his right hand over to the
left with which he washed his genitals. Then he performed a minor
purification, like he did for his regular daily prayers, thereafter, taking up water he would insert fingers down to the roots of his head.
Finally, he would let water flow over his entire body.
Minor or major purification are both part of the act of worship ritu-

als that are incumbent upon each person who is under an obligation to perform prayers.
The method of salvation of the whole mankind according to Islam
is not true purification rather, it lies in their firm belief that there is
no deity worthy of worship except God and Mohammad is his final
messenger.
Its a trite that all acts of worship must stand the following test of
admissibility;
1. The act of worship must correspond with the spirit of sharia for
which it is done, or else it would be rejected. Therefore, celebrating the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, claiming that the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was taken up into
heaven on that night. , despite the fact that it has not been legislated is void ab initio.
2. The act of worship must correlate with the Sharia in its nature
and/or category. Therefore, it is not permissible when a person
slaughters a horse instead of a camel or goat as a sacrifice after
Hajj.
3. The act of worship must confirm with the Sharia in its quantity
and/or amount. Therefore, if somebody adds two Rakah to the
Dhuhr prayer, making a total of six Rakah instead of four, this
would be unacceptable as it would not be coinciding with the Sharia in its quantity and/or amount.
4. The act of worship must correspond with the Sharia in the manner prescribed. Therefore, if someone begins minor purification by
washing face instead of hands, the act shall be rejected.
5. The act of worship must correspond with the Sharia in the timing of its performance. Therefore, praying the Dhuhr prayer after
sunset or fasting Ramadaan in Shabaan, or in Shawwaal is nullity.
6. The act of worship must correspond with the Sharia with regard to the place where it is performed. Therefore, one cannot
do itikaaf in his own house, because the place of itikaaf is the
mosque.
In a nutshell, an act of worship is not regarded as coincident with
sharia unless it combines all six prerequisite conditions namely;
Reason, Type, Amount , Manner, Time and Place. If someone performs baptism as an act of ritual purification, would this act of worship be in accordance with Islam??
Further, the source of the prohibition of the act of blindly imitating
non-Muslims in matters of faith is instructively laid down in the
words of the prophet,You will surely follow the ways, steps, or
traditions of those who came before you, span by span and yard

Mushaf. As they grow up, start with the hifdh of small Surahs. Play
the recordings of these Surahs on your computer or your smart
phones. Encourage the children by recording the Surahs in their
own voices. Many a children have memorized portions of the
Quran merely by listening to it being played in their houses and
cars. Apparently, to us it seems that they are not paying attention;
however, everything they hear is going inside.
Around the age of three start explaining simple verses to them,
those that they can relate to, in an age appropriate manner, for
e.g. Surah Fatiha, verses about the creation of Allah and about
Paradise.
A daily or weekly Quran study circle should be present in the routine of every household, in which all members of the family gather
together for a few minutes to ponder over some verses of the
Quran, reading together and thus growing together in faith.

Teenagers take more interest in things that their teachers or

friends tell them, rather than their parents. Sign them up in classes
of Quranic Tafseer. If possible, also arrange for their friends to go
with them.
Quran is what turned the simple nomads of the desert into leaders of the Ummah. It is what transformed Umar bin al Khattab, the
shepherd of camels into Umar al Farooq, the caliph of the Islamic
empire. This very Quran made Bilal ibn Rabah, a simple black
slave the Muadhin of Kabah. For our children to lead the Ummah
tomorrow, we must enlighten them with the Quran today.

physically, mentally and spiritually.
Often the feeling of fatigue and sluggishness, prevents us from
achieving what we want; it suppresses our daily energy supply
leaving us demotivated and unproductive. Improving our health
through the practice of hijama will leave us energised, helping to
improve our productivity levels. When our intention is to also practise a sunnah of our beloved prophet peace be upon him then the
barakah will multiply our potential by even more! By detoxing your
body by receiving hijama, you are opening up your body to the
fulfilling and exciting potential of heightened productivity, energy
and the reward of Allah.

forge a head in social economic development endeavour.

Islam and baptism

by yard (very closely) even if they entered
into a lizards hole you will enter it.
Muslim sociologist Ibn Khaldoon explains
that those whove experienced a military defeat tend to suffer from a defeated mentality
which then leads them to imitate their conqueror. (Al-Muqadimah, 147) He explained,
The defeated person is always infatuated,
and imitates the conqueror in his motto, his
religion and all his conditions and habits as
well. Naturally a person always thinks that
power, superiority, and excellence are with
the one who conquers, so he glorifies him
by imitation.
Imitating the conqueror may not necessarily
be a bad thing however, there is one category that is strictly prohibited for Muslims
to imitate non-Muslims in and that is in their

religions, their forms of worship etc.

Islams teachings have remained the same
over the centuries, yet have adapted very well
to constantly changing societies. Its teachings
encourage us to take whatever is good and to
leave whatever is bad, from Muslims and nonMuslims alike. Islam does not frown upon the
growth of our intellect, rather it teaches us to
continuously strive for knowledge.
Consequently, and in conclusion baptism as
a mode of purification and/or salvation cannot
stand in the eyes of the law (sharia) and in addition to the dictates of Islam, hence anyone
claiming such to be related to Islam is spuriously far away from Islam.

Ummah Medical Camp

Ummah Foundation in collaboration with Aga Khan University

Hospital- Nairobi is conducting a Medical Camp until 31st March
2017 at Aga Khan University Hospital- Muthithi clinic. The Camp
is a joint project of Ummah Foundation and Aga Khan University
Hospital at a very special rate of only Sh14,000 inclusive of doctors consultation. Normally these tests and consultations cost
more than Sh. 50,000 but for those who can afford to pay for this
offer, it will only cost Ksh. 14,000 as an offer negotiation for Ummah Foundation. Ummah Foundation will consider case by case
for those who cannot afford the subsidized cost.
These are Executive Check-up tests that include; full thyroid profile, full lipid profile cholesterol total triglycerides, urine,, liver function, kidney function, full haemogram and Vitamins deficiency.
For one to access the mentioned services with Ummah Foundation, you should first of all be poor and needy and your check-up
requirements should be within the specifics we mentioned herewith.
Over the years, we have been flooded with a lot of medical requests to meet the required medical charges from various hospitals where many of our brothers and sisters are admitted. The
extremes happen when we are asked to make payments for our
sick to get medical attention in India. The colossal amounts involved is a hard task that Ummah Foundation cannot accomplish
alone. A close look at many of the requests reveals that many of
them are checkups that can be done in Kenya. Not to mention
that the medical tourism has become a very lucrative business for
some individuals. Unknowingly many are duped into travels and
expenses for ailments that can be diagnosed locally. Interestingly
we have heard stories of how many patients have been referred
abroad only to be told that the problems they face are minor health
complications that can be cured at our hospitals. We therefore
partnered with Aga Khan University Hospital to bring a reprieve
to our patients. We believe if many of the patients are analysed
properly and come to know of the ailments then it is easy to be

treated at affordable expenses.

This is a joint venture that brings together Ummah Foundation and
Aga Khan University hospital to help the underprivileged sector
of our society. The mission is not just the money but to serve the
human community and accord them the opportunity to understand
the health challenges they encounter daily. It is a humanitarian
exercise where medicine turns divine. Incidentally we recognise
the fact that due to the growing global changes on our planet, for
example; decreased physical activity, obesity, smoking, alcohol,
drug abuse, unhealthy food habits and stress, which are associated with all age groups in both genders and the lifestyles that
are by choice, could be causes of all the diseases we suffer from.
Routine checkups and advices from medical professionals can
bring the remedies we all desire. Unfortunately the less affluent
class is generally deprived of this but now this team work has offered to the lower cadres the chance to understand themselves
medically.
We would like to bring to the attention of all that this is a medical
procedural camp and as we all understand instructions should be
adhered to so that the camp can yield its proper results. Applications are submitted to Ummah Foundation and after approval the
check up and consultation is done at Aga Khan University Hospital
along Muthithi road. We would therefore kindly request those who
fall within the aforementioned categories to come forward and apply to get the medical assistance that they deserve.
