TITLE Automatic Solar Tracking System

OBJECTIVES- The aim of our projects is to utilize the maximum
solar energy through solar panel
INTRODUCTION The earth receives 16 x 1018 units of energy from the
sun annually, which is 20,000 times the requirement of mankind on the Earth.
Solar panels are used to convert light energy into electrical energy.

Efficient Solar Power generation System using moving panel is a

efficientpower generating system using sun light.

Two sensors in two directions to sense the direction of maximum

intensity of light. The difference between the outputs of the sensors is
given to the microcontroller unit.
Microcontroller is used to process the input voltage from the comparison
circuit and control the direction in which the motor has to be rotated so
that it will receive maximum intensity of light from the sun.
The power generated from this process is then stored in a lead acid
battery.
Stored energy is used to run different appliances
Problem with Solar
However, there are many problems associated with its use, the main problem is
that it is dilute source of energy. Even in the hottest regions on the earth, the
solar radiations flux available rarely exceeds 1 KW/m, which is a low value for
technological utilization.
Problem associated with the use of solar energy is that its availability varies
widely with time. The variation in availability occurs daily because of the day
night cycle and also seasonally because of the earths orbit around the sun.
To rectify these above problems the solar panel should be such that it always
receives maximum intensity of light. For existing solar panels, which are

without any control systems typical level of efficiency varies from 10% to 4% a level that should improve measurably if the present interest continues.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Microcontroller based systems can be existing but they dont have
Automatic Sun Tracking System by getting the maximum power in the
day time.
By using the LPC2148 Microcontroller we are overcome the above
problem and make the system intelligently according to our requirements
with a less complexity
The unique feature of this system is that instead of taking the earth as its
reference, it takes the sun as a guiding source. By using RTC and LDR

sensors constantly monitor the sunlight and rotate the panel towards the
direction where the intensity of sunlight is maximum.
The hardware complexity is also simple and we can reduce cost
