History of Kanpur

It is believed that earlier its name was karnapur on the name of Karna. Population
approx.- 50Lacs
It was called as Manchester of East India as first cotton mills were established
here in the colonial rule. Other city was Ahmedabad.
Satti chauraha ghat (Massacre Ghat) Nana sahib peshwa besieged some 200
British women and children . It was promised that a route will be provided to them
to go to ALD, but some rebel sepoys shot and killed most of them.
Tourist Spots- Allen forest zoo, Bithoor( A small town in Kanpur)
Bithoor - according to mythology it is birth place of luv and Kush. Dhruv Teela,
Brahmavart Ghat are major attractions in Bithoor.

of India Limited are also located in the city. The highest number
of Ordnance Factories is situated in the city.
