Chapter 1:
1.1 Introduction
In this chapter we will learn how to model fixed moment beam with ABAQUS
software. And then, find maximum deflection and also drawing shear and moment
diagram for beam. Figure 1.1 showed fixed moment beam with 5m span and 150 Kn
concentrated load on the mid span.

Solid, shell and wire are three types of elements that used for simulation
engineering problems in ABAQUS software. In this example we will use wire
element for modelling, and then obtain important parameters such as deflection, and
initial force for beam.

1.2 Modelling
1.2.1 Create part
First step for modelling in ABAQUS software is create different parts of model. In
this example we have just one part for create this part from module part we are
following figure 1.2 and 1.3. As showed in figure 1.2, we need to choose wire in
fifth step. However after clicked on continue (6th step) new user interface will open.

The new page consist different tools for drawing shapes (figure1.3). We can use
from line bottom for create beam with 5 meter length. It could be very easy just
input Coordinate points of start and end of the beam (0,0) ,(0,5000).
Hint: There is not any unit in this software we are chosen millimetre for
drawing parts and Mpa for introduced material to software.

1.3 material properties
Introduced material properties are important part for simulation civil/mechanical
engineering problems.

Normally steel materials have elastic and plastic behaviour.

Elastic part introduce by E (young module). In this example we just consider elastic
behaviour of steel beam so following figure 1.4, 1.5.

And then from create section

button figure 1.6 and chosen beam types and then input IPE240 dimension (figure
1.7&1.8). Finally according to (figure 1.9(section properties assigned to model.

1.3 Assembly
Next module in ABAQUS after material properties is assembly. This module has appropriate tools for
assembling all parts together.
Figure 1.10 showed how create instance from parts.

1.4. Step

User can use from this module to determined type of loading (static or dynamic).
From field output user can adjustment output request. (figure 1.12)

1.5. Load
This module introduced boundary condition and applied load to the instance.
