Production & Distribution Company Question

A production company provides funding and recognition of the specific film it

produces. It handles all of the budgeting, scheduling, scripting, post-production
and some larger companies even help with distribution.
The distribution company are responsible for the marketing of a film. The
distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is
to be exhibited or made available for viewing: for example, directly to the public
either theatrically or for home viewing (DVD, video-on-demand, download,
television programs through broadcast syndication etc.). A distributor may do
this directly, if the distributor owns the theatres or film distribution networks, or
through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributors. A limited distributor may
deal only with particular products, such as DVDs or Blu-ray, or may act in a
particular country or market.
For our film we chose the production company Red Art Studios, this a production
company we made and it works well with the titles we have produced. In the real
world we would pick an established production company as they would provide
higher quality production involvement that would therefore increase the
likeability of our thriller film. We plan on using Studio Canal if the film were to be
large success as they are well known and have had large success previously with
films such as the Terminator 2. Studio canal also work with the BFI which was
our funding source for producing our film, this makes it more interconnected
within our production if we were to produce it at a broadcasted level of quality.
For our film distributor we chose Pathe which have distributed many successful
films such as Selma producing $3,738,077 in the UK alone. Pathe have had
large success in distributing films and in 2015 alone they produced 710 million
euros in revenue. I believe that they would be the perfect distributor for our film
due to the large success they have previously had, and I am sure they would like
to take on the role of distributing a unique film like ours.
We plan on using two different companies for producing our film and distributing
our film as the firms have better expertise in that part of the production process.
To fund our film we plan on using the BFI (British Film Institute) which will provide
the necessary funding for our film to produce it to a high enough level but to also
distribute it effectively. The BFI focus on funding films from film makers those are
relatively small or independent. The reason for the BFI funding these smaller
film-makers is to keep the creative side of the film industry still around as larger
firms can be very specific on what they want to see in a film and they dont leave
it up to the director to make changes whilst on set if they see a chance to
enhance a scene but altering the camera angle/shot or changing the position of
the characters for instance.

From the production rough draft I can see that we have communicated certain
conventions of the production company Studio Canal. Studio Canal tries to follow
an innovative approach to production & distribution of the films they work with.
So we have definitely followed introducing new ideas; original and creative in
thinking in our production therefore making it more appealing to the production
company Studio Canal. They also focus on targeting our audience which are
primarily British. However we may need to alter the alter the narrative so that is
easier to understand, so that the production company are willing to take the
project on-board.
We have also made our thriller film opening sequence appealing to the
distribution company Pathe as we have introduced conventions and themes
they typically distribute. Path is a major film production and distribution
company, which owns a great number of cinema chains, across Europe but also
in France. Using a high-end distribution company such as Pathe will also give
our film a higher chance of success as the films distribution company has key
links with cinemas to showcase our film to the audience. They have also got a
great need of experience in distributing films through new forms of media such
as social media, and other forms of advertising.
