Cold War:
The Cold War was a state of political hostility between
countries throughout the years of 1945 to 1990. However,
tension between the United States and the Soviet Union was
extremely tense throughout the 1970s. The term cold was
coined by English writer George Orwell and was used because
there was no large scale fighting between the two sides; a
large number of proxy wars were supported by both sides.
The Cold War was more of an ideological war between the
Communist backed East and Democracy loving West.
In one of the most famous orations of the Cold War period,
former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill condemns the
Soviet Unions policies in Europe and declares, From Stettin
in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has
descended across the continent. Churchills speech is
considered one of the opening volleys announcing the
beginning of the Cold War
The Eastern Bloc was the group of communist states of
Central and Eastern Europe, generally the Soviet Union and
the countries of the Warsaw Pact. The terms Communist
