2.2.IntroductionThisdocumentprovidesinformationaboutvariousprofilesavailableinIBMWebsphere
ApplicationServerNetworkDeployment(referredasWASNDfromnowon)andusageoftheseprofiles.
ThisdocumentcoversApplicationServerProfile,CustomProfile,CellProfile,andvariousManagement
profilesAdministrativeAgent,DeploymentmanagerandJobManager.WhatisaProfileAprofileisa
setofconfigurationfilesusedtocreateapplicationserverruntimes.Thissetincludesstaticproductfilesas
wellconfigurationfilesusedtoprepareandcontrolruntimeenvironment.ApplicationServerProfileThis
profileisusedtocreateastandaloneapplicationserver.Thepurposeofstandaloneserveristopreparea
runtimeenvironmentwhichworksindependenttootherapplicationserverinstancesandismanaged
independentlyusingitsownconsole.Although,thisserverprofile(node)latercanbeaddedto
deploymentmanagertobecomepartofbiggerdeployment,butnormallyitisusedtopreparestandalone
applicationdeployment.Whenyoucreatethisprofile,adefaultapplicationserverinstanceautomatically
getscreated.FollowingimageshowsanApplicationServerprofilehavingaserveranditsindependent
console.AdministratorStandAloneServerAOS(Linux)CustomProfileThisisthemostusedprofilein
WASNDenvironmentshavinglargenumberofservers.Thisprofilecreatesemptynodeanddoesnot
containsanyconsoleorapplicationserver.Thisisusedtocreatebiggerdeploymentcontaininglarge
numberofservers.Youcreatemultiplecustomprofilesandfederatethosetodeploymentmanagerto
prepareclustersofapplicationserverstohostyourapplications.You2|Page
3.3.canviewthisprofileasanodecontainingconfigurationfilestocreateserverruntimeenvironments.As
mentionedabovetheseprofilesdonotcontainanyserverorconsolesothesemustbeaddedtodeployment
managertoprepareruntimeenvironment.AlthoughyoucanusecommandlineWAStoolstocreateserver
instancesfortheseprofilesaswell,butthatishardlyeverdoneandforsuchrequirementsapplication
serverprofile(describedabove)canbeused.ManagementProfilesThereare3typesofmanagement
profilesexist,fordifferentmanagementrequirements.DeploymentManagerProfileThisismostused
managementprofile.AsmentionedinCustomProfilesection,acustomprofilemustbeaddedto
deploymentmanagertosetupbiggerdeploymentscontainingmultipleservers,andclusters.Adeployment
managerisaspecialserverusedtomanageacompletecell.Youuseitwhenyourdeploymentspans
multiplenodes,serversandyouneedasingleplacetomanageallcomponentsandapplyvariousfeatures
toallcomponentsorselectivecomponentsofyourdeployment.Adeploymentmanagerprofileiscreated
asafirststepinanybigdeploymentcontainingmultipleservers,andclusters.Whenyoucreatea
deploymentmanagerprofileamanagementservergetscreated.Thisserverisusedtomanagedifferent
nodesfederatedtoit.Also,whenyouadd/federateanodeintodeploymentmanageraspecialservercalled
nodeagentiscreatedatnodewhichisbeingadded,andisusedbydeploymentmanagerto
communicateandmanagenodeandserversrunningonit.Followingfigureshows2customprofilenodes

4.4.DeploymentManager/AdministratorDeploymentManagerServerOS(Linux)Managedby
DeploymentManagerCustomProfileNodeAOS(Linux)CustomProfileNodeBz/OSAdministrative
AgentProfileThisprofileisrarelyused.Itspurposeistomanagemultiplestandaloneapplicationservers
residingwithinanOSfromasingleconsole.Ifyouhavemultiplestandaloneapplicationserversinstalled
onamachineandwanttomanageandcontrolallserversfromasingleconsole,youcreatethisprofile.
ThemanagementislimitedtotheserversresidingwithinsameOSinstancewherethisprofileisbeing
createdandlimitedtothefunctionalityofferedlikeyoucanstart/stopserversfromsingleconsolebutcant
deployapplicationtoallorselectedservers.FollowingfigureshowsAdminagentand2application

ApplicationSeverAOS(Linux)JobManagerProfileThisprofileprovidesmuchhighermanagement
functionality.Indeploymentscontainingmultiplestandaloneserversandmultipleclusters,thisprofilecan
beusedtomanageallcomponentsusingsingleconsole.Although,managementfeaturesarelimitedto
somesetofcommandswhichcanbeissuedfromtheconsoleaswellcreatingscheduleofjobstomanage
servers,cluster,butitisveryusefulinreallybiggerdeploymentsspanningmultipledeploymentmanagers,
