GENERAL METHODOLOGY
The footprint of the Hotel towers and podium is divided into eight zones. The
construction of the Tower 1 (Zone 5) is envisaged to start prior to the start of the Tower
2 (Zone 1). As the footprint of the Podium is spread out, these areas are further sub
divided into six zones, Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 4, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8. Each Zone will
have a dedicated team for the speedy execution of the project. All teams will report to a
Project Manager who will supervise, guide and co ordinate the execution teams into
successful completion of Scope of Works. To prevent delays to other contractors
operating along side special emphasis, care and co ordination will be accorded to inter
phase areas of works.

With spacer blocks placed in the planned area, bottom reinforcement will commence.
Cut and bent reinforcement supplied by NMX, will be placed in accordance with the
approved shop drawings supplied by the Main Contractor. Bottom layer will continue
until all bottom layers are completed to the designated pour area. The reinforcement will
be placed in such a way that all laps are staggered. Reinforcement will run continuously
to the maximum extent possible to minimize lap joints and maintain working area. The
reinforcement will be adjusted and tied to the final position by the steel fixing crew.
When the bottom layer is complete, a WIR is raised to approve bottom rebar for each
layer. Prefabricated chairs to support the top reinforcement will be placed. Since the
height of the raft pour is 3.9 m, the chair rods will be specially designed and fabricated in
such a way that, it remains stable when the heavy top mat of reinforcement is placed
over it. Once these chairs are placed in position, top reinforcement will begin. The
reinforcement will be distributed manually over the previously positioned chairs. After the
placement of the reinforcement as per the approved shop drawings, it will be tied using
18 g. approved annealed tie wire. Spacer blocks will be properly secured to the
reinforcement, using the embedded tie wires provided in the spacer blocks, particularly
to the vertical faces. Tower crane / Mobile crane provided by the NMX will be used for
the movement of materials for the raft / pile cap construction. 600mm x 600mm access
openings will be left in top mat which will enable the tradesmen to access the lower
areas of the raft, for cleaning, preparation of construction joints etc. This opening will be
closed prior to the concrete pour as per the specification. Starter bars for Columns, Core
walls, Retaining walls etc will be provided as per rebar drawings. WIR will be raised for
final approval before placement of concrete. For pile caps of lesser depths both top and
bottom rebar supported by suitable chairs, will be assembled and secured prior to WIRs
being raised for inspection.
The MEP service installations and Structural Embeds, which are coming within the raft /
pile cap shall be installed by the concerned contractors. Following completion of raft /
pile cap steel reinforcement, the bottom of the Raft / pile cap will be thoroughly cleaned
of all tying wire and any other accumulated rubbish, by blowing compressed air, prior to
any concrete placement.
GENERAL NOTES:
1) Reinforcement shall comply with relevant standards, and Project Technical
Specifications.
2) Reinforcement shall be free from mill scale, rust,
3) Reinforcement shall not be subject to mechanical damage prior to embedding.
4) Heating should not be used to bend or deform the bars that are to be embedded.
5) Rebar once bent to shape shall not be re bent.
6) Rebar shall be secured against displacement outside specified limits.
7) Every compression bar will be tied at least in two perpendicular directions.

Fixing Formwork for Raft
The panels for the formwork are assembled in the carpentry yard simultaneously as the
reinforcement progresses (Please refer submittal no.18029-MT-0014-0). On receipt of
approved drawings, issued for construction by NMX, based on which, Robodh formwork
division will design the raft shutters. PERI GT 24 girders are placed vertically at suitable
intervals based on design parameters and are supported by steel Walers, which hold the
girders horizontally and are attached to the girders with the help of hook straps. Tie yokes

are fixed to the corners to maintain true perpendicularity. The tie yokes can be adjusted by
manipulating the bolts at the ends of the tie rods. The Raft shutters are supported
externally with the help of push pull props and jacks alternatively. The push pull props are
attached to the Walers with the help of a wedge headpiece, which in turn is attached to
the Walers, with a wedge K. The plywood used for these panels will be of 18mm thickness
WBP grade, with surface film made up of PF resin which is capable of withstanding dilute
acids & alkalis. Whilst the reinforcement works are in progress for the top mat, edge forms
will be placed. These edge forms will be pre assembled and stored in an area within the
reach of tower crane. These shutters will be placed and supported suitably. At places (top
and bottom), where the formwork has to be placed with the lap reinforcement projecting
out from the edge forms, the forms will be cut / bored suitably to accommodate the rebar.
The gap between the rebar and the formwork will be filled with extruded polystyrene
sheets so that the concrete grout does not bleed out from these slots.
Concurrently with the placing of external shutters, the wall starters will be placed. A top
survey will be undertaken to determine the exact position of the wall starters. From the
markings below, the survey should be checked, as all works will have been set out from
the color markings on the protection screed.
Necessary box outs as required for the floor gullies / manholes etc., also will be fixed and
tied off with reinforcement
On completion of Reinforcement and formwork fixing for each bay of the raft, compressed
air will be blown to remove all foreign particles and tie wires from the concrete pour area.
WIR will be raised after installation of formwork and prior to placement of concrete.
Concrete Placement Procedure for Raft
On completion of installation of Reinforcement and Shuttering Forms to the raft, and / or
sacrificial formwork to Strip Footings and pile caps as directed by the NMXs construction
Manager, and on receipt of necessary clearances for WIRs submitted and MEP
clearance, the raft concrete pour commences. Water stops are placed and secured, as
required and directed by the Construction Manager of NMX. The reinforcement is sprayed
with water at least two hours prior to commencement of concreting. Residual water is
blown away using compressed air. As the depth of the concrete to be placed in the raft
concrete in Zone 5 is 3.90M, it is envisaged that high temperatures are likely to be
developed in the central area (core) of the pour. An approved and competent third party
testing agency places thermocouples and load cell instrumentation in pre determined
locations of the raft. (NMX Scope). Care will be taken to prevent damage to the
thermocouples and load cell instrumentation during the concrete pour. The wiring from the
instrumentation will be connected to a data logger located at an easily accessible location

adjacent to the raft. The temperature monitoring will be carried out for a period of seven
days. The data will be logged every three hours for the first three days and every twelve
hours there after. A method statement for temperature control is herewith enclosed.
The volume of concrete pour is envisaged to be approximately 8000 cum and would
require thirty to thirty one hours continuous pouring. Concrete is conveyed to the raft with
the help of six mobile pumps with suitable boom length. These mobile pumps are located
in suitable places around the perimeter of the Raft. To prevent any interruption to the
concrete pour two mobile pump is kept as standby during the entire duration of the pour.
Concrete is supplied continuously from the batching plant and will be placed in 300mm
lifts. Concrete will be consolidated by using immersion vibrators and by small diameter
vibrators for areas of heavy rebar congestion. Care is taken not to over vibrate the
concrete or use the vibrator to convey concrete within the formwork.
The concrete trucks will be guided in and out of the site so that there is smooth flow
without any hindrances to the pour and the public at large (NMX Scope). The concrete
trucks will be sent to the concrete sampling area before it is allowed to enter the pour area
for carrying out mandatory quality checks (NMX Scope). Appropriate lighting will be
installed surrounding the perimeter walls and at the building footprints as required. A
standby electrician will be made available throughout the pouring operation. Adequate first
aid facility will be provided at site, and all safety precautions ensured.
Immediately following the casting of each section of the raft, cement mortar strips 50mm x
50mm will be formed into panels of suitable size, which will hold water like a pond. This
activity will continue until the curing process is complete. Polythene sheets will cover the
water ponding to prevent evaporation over which Expanded Polystyrene sheeting of 14
Kg per cum density and 20mm in thickness will be placed to prevent ingress of heat by
providing an insulating barrier, in the event external temperature exceeds 40 0 C.
SAMPLING AND TESTING REGIME: (NMX Scope)
During each concrete pour for various structural elements, samples shall be taken from
the fresh concrete at the specified sampling rate, for compressive strength and durability
testing. Concrete samples shall be taken in accordance with the requirements of the
Project Technical Specification for Plain & Reinforced Concrete Material or relevant B.S
code. A dedicated sampling area will be located with easy access and proximity to the
site, where trained laboratory technicians will carry out field quality control checks, before
allowing the transit mixers to proceed into the site. The concrete will be checked for slump
and temperature before allowing it to be poured in the various elements of the structure.
The lab technicians on a concrete pour record sheet will record the entire concrete
placement operation. Once the concrete cube samples have hardened sufficiently and
can be stripped from the moulds, they shall be uniquely labeled with an indelible marker
