Part One:
Hello, my name is Amaunet which is an Egyptian name meaning hidden. I was born in
Alexandria, Egypt in 60 BCE. I died from lymphatic filariasis. Lymphatic filariasis is spread by
infected mosquitos. It directly affects the lymph nodes and lymph vessels. I am the daughter of
an Egyptian warrior. I was 20 years old when I died.

Part Three:
The day of my burial was March 4, 3980 BCE. This is believed to be the day I moved
from the world of the living to the world of the dead. The Opening the Mouth ceremony started
at approximately 3:00 pm after all of the guest arrived. The Opening of the Mouth ceremony is
when the priest touches the mouth and eyes with tools to symbolically bring the body back to
life. This way, I would have my body with me in the afterworld. My body was also mummified
so my physical body would be preserved as I continue my journey as a spirit to the afterlife.
Cleopatra attended my funeral. She was the queen of ancient Egypt during my time and
my father, Maherpa Adom, was a leading warrior in her army. My father was very saddened by
my death and hesitated to attend. Last minute, he decided to come because he knew I had a
beautiful journey ahead of me to the afterlife.
Part Four:
I first traveled as a spirit through the Mountains of Moses. Traveling through the
mountains would bring upon many obstacles like a lack of food and water, or the presence of
wild animals. I saw an unrecognizable wild beast. I was hesitant to continue but then realized I
was given protection against hostile creatures by my spells. I am not frightened because my
spells have given me all the information I will need during my journey.
I was well prepared for my first greeting from the gods. I knew that on my journey I
would have to pass through many doors and gates guarded by the gods. The first gate I entered
was guarded by Nun, the god of primordial waters. He told me if I wanted to continue my
journey I would have to enter the gate and cross the Nile river at its greatest width. This point of

the river is 7.5 km wide and I cannot swim. Using one of my spells, I transformed myself into a
fish. In the netherworld, some spells allowed the person to turn into different animals making it
easier to travel through the netherworld.
I arrived at the last door guarded by Maat, the goddess of order and truth. I was told my
final obstacle would be to solve a riddle. The riddle was, When I am young, I go on four legs,
then I go on two legs, then I go on three, and then I die. I knew the answer because I was
provided with all the information in needed to complete my journey. The answer was a human.
Next, I was permitted to enter The Wall of Two Truths. The gods reviewed my life and
decided if I deserved to enter the afterlife. Next my heart was weighed against an image of Maat.
The Egyptians believed the heart could speak and spells ensured that it did not speak bad about it
owner. My heart passed the test. It was a perfect balance which indicated a well life spent. I was
then welcomed to the afterlife by Osiris.
