Duterte is better than Miriam

Though Miriam has left the presidential race, if she was to be still in the
race, I, for one would like to say with all my honesty and unwavering belief
that Miriam is better than Duterte for a variety of reasons. While certainly
both candidates will bring upon change and will make substantial reforms
what varies is their approach in which they bring said change whereas
Miriam takes a democratic approach, Duterte takes a radical, almost
communist approach and many speculate that the election of Duterte will
mean a throwback to the days of the Martial Law of the Marcos Regime. In
terms of track record and experience, Miriam outshines Duterte by a wide
margin with Miriam having served in all 3 branches of the government,
named one of The 100 Most Powerful Women in the World in 1997 by The
Australian magazine, named as a laureate of the Ramon Magsaysay
Award for government service, with a citation for bold and moral leadership
in cleaning up a corrupt-ridden government agency, served 3 terms in the
Philippine Senate and the first Filipina the first Asian from a developing
country to be elected a judge of the International Criminal Court. She also

authored many laws such as Reproductive Health Act of 2012, Sin Tax Law,
Climate Change Act of 2009, Magna Carta of Women, Cybercrime Act of 2012
and Archipelagic Baselines Act of 2009. Asides from that, Miriam has a more
consistent and overall cleaner record than Duterte with multiple alleged
human right violations but even though it is due to this that Davao is dubbed
the 4th safest city in the world and has undeniably prospered under his term,
the ends dont justify the mean basically however good of a result is, it
doesnt justify the immoral things youve done to achieve it and no one is
above the law, if he can kill criminals then he can certainly kill
whistleblowers, activists and even average citizens with impunity.
Extrajudicial killings might be effective to keep the peace in a city or
barangay but on a nationwide scale, were looking at the deaths of over 10010,000 people and with Philippines having such a huge population, the
margin of error is huge, people may be convicted and executed on a whim,
personal vendetta or attempt to oust someone in power. This killings
(though, on criminals) will be inevitably the subject of intrigue and cause of
alarm in many countries earning us a bad reputation and subsequently a
decline in the tourism and other industries. The killings will also cause unrest

among the masses and sooner or later, someone will try to instigate a coup
d etat exacerbating the situation and from then on, one of two things will
happen, either another People Power or another throwback to the Nanjing
Massacre. While Dutertes other reforms will certainly be fulfilled, his
blindspot and the cause of his probable downfall should he be elected will be
his extremist approach in subjugating crime. Though nothing is certain and I
hopefully things to go smoothly and for the better should he win the
presidential race but my point still stands and taking to account all the
factors and possible and likely outcomes, I, hereby conclude that Miriam is
the better candidate. Which is yours?
