SS 233 : 2013
Foreword
This Singapore Standard was prepared by the Working Group on Specification for Flexible Rubber
Tubing, Rubber Hose and Rubber Hose Assemblies for Use in LPG Vapour Phase Installations
appointed by the Technical Committee on Safety and Health Involving the Use of Equipment which is
under the purview of the General Engineering and Safety Standards Committee.
It is a revision of SS 233 : 1996. This revised Singapore Standard is a modified adoption of BS 3212 :
1991 Specification for flexible rubber tubing, rubber hose and rubber hose assemblies for use in LPG
vapour phase and LPG/air installations and is implemented with the permission of British Standards
Publishing Limited, 389 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 4AL, United Kingdom.
The deviations to suit local use include the addition of normative references, definitions, test for
resistance to edible oil and typical marking and sticker on tubing/hose.
The major changes from the 1996 edition are as follows:
(a)
The test pressure for permeability to propene based on ISO 4080 : 2009 would be carried out
at a higher gas pressure of 1 MPa (10 bar).
(b)
To improve on interpretation, the markings on the flexible tubing and hose will now bear the
month and year of expiry instead of the month and year of manufacture.
(c)
The requirement of the attachment and placement of a sticker bearing warnings and
recommendations for replacement to be supplied and attached is reinstated.
In preparing this standard, reference was also made to the following publications:
1. BS 3558-1 : 1997
2. BS 3558-2 : 2001
3. BS 5315 : 1991

Scope
This Singapore Standard specifies performance and dimensional requirements for rubber tubing, hose
and complete assemblies for use in LPG vapour phase installations in environments up to a maximum
ambient temperature of 60 C.
NOTE Tubing and hoses specified in this standard should not be used for gas cutting and allied processes
using oxygen unless they also comply with the requirements of ISO 3821.
