1. Please comment on K 12 education system within the tenet of

Globalization
In 2012 the Philippine government declared the start of a organizing our
countrys educational system under a policy called the K to 12 program. It
is the most thorough basic education reform plan ever done in the country
since the establishment of the public education system more than a century
ago.
Under the K to 12 program, the span of the basic education has been
lengthened. Two more years have been added to the existing four years of
the secondary education, which will extend basic education to 12 years, and
one year of kindergarten has been mandated as part of the basic education.
The extension of the secondary education means that students aged 16 and
17, will now be in senior high school, and the admission into tertiary
education will be at age 18.
Upon launching the new educational policy, it is important to examine how
the policies possibly change the course of the existing thought on education.
The K to 12 programs puts a high value on the holistically developed Filipino
through a mixture of education input and curriculum modification. Although
on the outside this modification appears seeking the Philippines intrinsic
values, the outcomes it is seeking involves that the K to 12 programs
ultimately is connected to the globalization of education.
In analyzing what has been expressed by the government I find that the
Philippines appears to be heading toward the globalization of its education
and seemingly becoming a more credential society. National Certificates
earned through the acquisition of secondary education will play a significant
role in highlighting the abilities and skills that high school graduates have
gained, and educational credentials that are necessary for employment
(Spring 2009) and better preparation for better educational opportunities
and employment is a key role of K to 12 education.
Filipinos have been enthusiastic after higher diplomas, and this way now
accelerating with the K to 12 program, the government is emphasizing the
level of education that leads to higher education. This means that a growing
number of students will seek to enter colleges and universities which will
increase competition for places in these institutions. However as Dore
pointed out by his term diploma disease, education in these institutions it
can also be a cause of social malaise. Overheated competition for diplomas

can cause for stress and anxiety among youths and their parents as they
compete for a limited number of places in higher education institutions.
I agree in K+12 it is because that students will have more time to choose the
right course that best suits in their skills and they will be more capable and
matured to confront college career, which is a new special field endeavor. It
will make more globally competitive Filipino students and it will maximize
their time on choosing their career base on their ability. So the program will
start this June 2016 so lets give it a try so that we can determine the good
or bad of the implementation. After the realization, we can sit down and look
at how thing goes to see if indeed our students is ready to the field of work
and globally competitive group.
2. What is the implication of the policy under the present educational
system
to
pass
all
learners
in
basic
education

The issue about the hierarchical structure and culture of obeisance is

always true, based on my personal experience in my 4 years of
teaching in public school. When I was a newly hired teacher in the
school where Im currently teaching, I had a culture shock and always
wanted to ask questions regarding with the implemented school
systems and policies just like; why does our school head have to be
like this and like that? Why our head teacher does wont allow us to fail
the students even though they dont participate and do their activities
in classes. Moreover, we havent seen some of them for ages because
some of them are really not showing up in school to attend their
classes. Still, they would say its written in the DepEd Memo that we
are not allowed to fail or drop the students because we need to
maintain the zero drop-out rates. Thus, we would able to get a higher
PBB or Performance based bonus because of the 100% passing rate.
My question goes the same with the open letter posted in a blog and
that was addressed to Bro. Luistro by the unknown sender which is also
a public school teacher. Is it true that DepEd issued a memo that
students are not allowed to fail? Are teachers really required to give a
passing grade to all students without considering any of the following:
Students who are absent 80% of the time and do not submit any
requirements; Students who are present in school but do not do
anything while in school; Students who have failing grades on written
activities,
quizzes
and
quarterly
exams
One of my co-teachers even said to me just dont go against them
and dont do something that might put your career at risk. Whatever

they want or ask you to do, just follow and go on with the flow and you
wont lose your track. This statement made me think, where is the
justice in this? Does it always have to be like this, just because they
positioned on top and we are at the bottom, we have no right to
contradict everything they say or do?!
3. In your opinion what skills and abilities we should develop among
Filipinos? Please substantiate your answer.
Our caring ways
One of our abilities as Filipinos that can be proud of our humanity is being
caring. We are a highly regarded as to relate to any people, proficient in
emotionally and socially connecting with others.
Hospitality even abroad
It is also reflected in our world-famous hospitality that truly amazes anyone
who has experienced it. Foreigners who are arriving to the Philippines speak
of Filipinos going out of their way to help them when lost, or the
heartwarming kindness of a Filipino family hosting a visitor in their povertystricken home. In the meantime, most foreigners who attend Filipino
gatherings abroad can testify to the warmth and friendliness of Filipinos as
they experience that feeling of belongingness. Indeed, the legendary
Filipino hospitality is not limited to the Philippines. It is in places wherever
there are Filipinos.
Pinoy creativity
Aside from our humanity, we Filipinos can be proud of our creativity and
known for our different skills in different areas that we might excel. While
being creative is not an exclusive trait and skill possessed only by Filipinos,
what makes ours different is the artistry, expressiveness, naturalness, and
humor that altogether define Filipino creativity. Aside from the plenty of
world-renowned Filipino talents in music and the performing arts, our country
is rich with visual artists, fashion designers, animators and many other
artists. Filipinos are making waves in the international scene, particularly in
the entertainment, creative, and design industries.
Filipino creativity, however, is not limited to the professional artists. The
countrys tourism campaign Its More Fun in the Philippines is a remarkable
testimony to the creative minds and spontaneous wit that Filipinos generally
share. This spontaneous show of support to Philippine tourism just proves
that we can unite and use our collective ingenuity to rally behind a common
cause for the help of the country.
Adaptability

Besides creativity, we Filipinos can be proud of our adaptability. We are

highly adaptable to different people, cultures, and situations that generally
make us well-rounded beings. While overseas, we not only connect with
fellow Filipinos but we also adjust easily to different cultures and diverse
people. We tend to make do with what little we have and find pleasure in the
simple things. We adapt well in difficult situations that likewise showcase our
resilience as a nation. Others may view this as a general acceptance of fate
or a strange kind of coping mechanism. The Filipinos optimistic reaction to
diversity, uncertainty and adversity truly baffles, or at most amazes.
How many times do foreigners get astounded with Filipinos after every
storm? Aside from pictures of the Filipinos survival efforts, foreigners are
astounded by images of children having fun swimming in the floodwaters or
people in evacuation centers smiling and waving at the cameras. Truly,
Filipinos reveal a positive spirit of adapting to distress and finding something
pleasant amidst the misery.

In terms of skills the following

Plenty of programmers
Filipinos are very tech-savvy, including when it comes to programming. If
youre looking for a programmer, you should have little trouble finding a wellqualified candidate.
There are currently more than 6,700 profiles of experienced programmers on
onlinejobs.ph. More specifically, there are more than 2,400 Filipinos on
onlinejobs.ph that have skill in PHP programming. Other profiles on the site
list candidates with programming experience in .NET, Visual Basic, JAVA, C++
and C#. There are loads of people with proficiency in developing WordPress
plugins and themes, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS and many others.
Similarly, Filipinos are great at filling webmaster tasks and similar
technology-driven work.
Filipinos can do design
Graphic designers are also plentiful in the Philippines. If this is a need in your
business, outsource the tasks to the Philippines. Youll find plenty of potential
workers to design art work for your websites or printed work you may have.
Nearly 4,100 Filipino graphic designers have their profiles and resumes on
onlinejobs.ph. Most of these candidates have bachelor degrees, and some
even have completed graduate studies. Youll even see people who can do
web design or video editing.
English writing is a common skill
As Ive written before, English is commonly spoken in the Philippines. Its
spoken in schools, in business and in government. Filipinos grow up watching
American television. English is part of Filipino culture. Not everyone speaks
or writes perfect English.

But that doesnt mean you cant find a virtual assistant capable of writing for
you.
In fact, for most tasks you outsource, you should make your hire largely
based on the persons ability to write and speak in English. I have hired
many Filipinos who have had perfect or near-perfect English.
Natural customer service professionals
If you have called technical support for an issue with your computer, phone
or anything else, you may have noticed a lot of Filipinos on the other end of
the line. It used to be that outsourced call centers were found in India, but
its more and more common now for companies to go to the Philippines for
call center work. This is because Filipinos are excellent on the phone.
If you need to hand off some of your phone-based customer service tasks,
strongly consider outsourcing these tasks to a Filipino VA. They are polite,
considerate and calm under pressure. They also have a good presence on
the phone. With their good English, they can understand people, and people
can understand them. You can hire a Filipino to handle inbound or outbound
customer service calls.
Social media experts
Social media is quite popular in the Philippines. In fact, an estimated 47
million Filipinos have a Facebook accountthats about 43 percent of the
population. Not only are Filipinos accustomed to using this social media tool
in their personal lives, but you can find those who understand how Facebook
can be a good marketing tool for businesses
