FERROUS

ROSULVIT
200 mg / 5 mL Syrup

ANTI-ANEMIA

FORMULATION:
Each 5 mL ( 1 teaspoon)
contains:
Ferrous
Sulfate
..............200 mg
(Equivalent to 44 mg elemental
iron)
DESCRIPTION:
Ferrous sulfate is used to treat
iron deficiency anemia (a lack of
red blood cells caused by having
too little iron in the body).
INDICATION:
Prevention and treatment of iron
deficiency and iron deficiency
anemia.
PRECAUTION:
Monitor complete blood cell
counts and blood iron levels
regularly
while
taking this
medication.
Keep out of the reach of
children
DOSAGE:
As directed by a doctor or as
follows:
Prevention of iron deficiency
Adults: 5 mL (1 teaspoonful)
daily
Children under 12 years of age:
consult a doctor

Iron replacement therapy in


deficiency states
Adults: 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) 2 to
4
times
daily
preferably
between meals.
Children under 12 years of age:
consult a doctor
Mix with water or fruit juice and
drink through a straw to avoid
temporary staining of teeth. Do
not mix with milk or wine-based
vehicles.
PREGNANCY WARNINGS:
If you become pregnant, contact
your doctor. You will need to
discuss the benefits and risks of
using ferrous sulfate while you
are pregnant. Ferrous sulfate is
found in breast milk. If you are
or will be breast-feeding while
you use ferrous sulfate, check
with your doctor. Discuss any
possible risks to your baby.
Pregnancy risk category A.
INTERACTIONS:
Drug-drug.
Antacids,
aluminum-containing phosphate
binders,
cholestyramine,
cimetidine, vitamin E: Decreases
ferrous fumarate absorption.
Separate doses by 1- to 2-hour
intervals.
Chloramphenicol:
Increases
response
to
iron
therapy.
Monitor patient carefully.
Doxycycline: May interfere with
ferrous
fumarate
absorption

even when doses are separated.


Avoid use together.
L-thyroxine: May decrease Lthyroxine absorption. Separate
doses by at least 2 hours.
Monitor thyroid function.
Levodopa, methyldopa: May
decrease absorption of these
drugs. Monitor patient carefully.
Penicillamine:
Decreases
penicillamine
absorption.
Separate doses by at least 2
hours.
Quinolones:
May
decrease
quinolone absorption. Monitor
patient closely.
Tetracycline: Inhibits absorption
of both drugs. Give tetracycline
3 hours after or 2 hours before
iron supplement.
Vitamin
C:
Increases
iron
absorption. May be used as a
beneficial drug interaction.
Drug-herb.
Black
cohosh,
chamomile, feverfew, gossypol,
hawthorn, nettle, plantain, St.
Johns wort: Decreases iron
absorption.
Discourage
use
together.
Drug-food. Cereals, cheese,
coffee, eggs, milk, tea, wholegrain breads, yogurt: May impair
oral iron absorption. Discourage
use together.
OVERDOSAGE
TREATMENT:

Overdosage includes nausea,


vomiting,
abdominal
pain,
diarrhea of green or tarry stools,
haematemesis,
seizures,
drowsiness, metabolic acidosis,
hepatic
dysfunction,
renal
failure, and coma.
In
case
of
accidental
overdosage, discontinue use
and seek professional assistance
immediately
STORAGE CONDITION:
Store
a
temperature
exceeding 25C.
