In the morning I attended a meeting between

management and union representatives.
We were anticipating a difficult bargaining but it
was actually easy. The discussion was very
comprehensive, covering topics like working hours, days
off, retirement age, etc. Both sides were interested in an

notes. Eventually, they decided to set a new meeting to

Na parte da manh eu participei de uma reunio entre representantes da

administrao e do sindicato.
Ns antecipar uma negociao difcil, mas na verdade era fcil. A discusso
foi muito abrangente, abordando temas como o horrio de trabalho, dias de
folga, a idade de aposentadoria, etc. Ambos os lados estavam interessados
em um acordo e pronto a fazer concesses. O secretrio registrou tudo nas
notas. Eventualmente, eles decidiram criar uma nova reunio para assinar o
texto final do acordo.

De volta ao escritrio, um colega meu me perguntou se eu tinha percebido

que o acordo proposto seria parcialmente contra a poltica da empresa de
no aceitar trabalhadores que j se aposentaram. Eu fingia ser muito
ocupado e atrasado para um compromisso, e partiu para o refeitrio. Na
verdade, eu no queria discutir o assunto naquele momento porque havia
alguns estranhos no escritrio.

Depois do almoo, eu assisti a uma palestra dada pelo prefeito, que um

especialista em legislao tributria e tem uma ps-graduao em cincia
poltica. Ele disse que seu governo pretende ajudar os programas de bemestar e idosos, arrecadar fundos para melhorar a educao universitria e
construir uma biblioteca pblica, e estabelecer limites mais rigorosos nas
emisses dos veculos, porque ele assume isso o que as pessoas esperam
do governo.
