LEADERSHIP TRAINING SEMINAR

As defined by Zeitchik, Leadership is inspiring others to pursue your vision within the
parameters you set, to the extent that it becomes a shared effort, a shared vision, and a shared
success. It is a process by which you inspire and motivate other people to accomplish a specific
goal and direct them in a way that it makes more coherent and cohesive. Naturally, leaders are
made and not born.
The PIChE officers conducted a leadership training seminar last November 19, 2016 at New
CE Hall. This LTS is open to all CBO officers and all other interested participants. Through this LTS,
the students are given the opportunity to develop and hone their leadership skill and as well as their
communication ability.
The speaker for the morning session was Hon. Sheina Marie Onrubia, a young leader who is
active in socio-civic organization in Tabaco City, Albay. She was also one of the two Filipino delegates of
Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Program sponsored by the United States in 2015 and has talked with
former
US
President
Barack
Obama.
Her topic for the said LTS was Youth Amplify. Amplify which means louder, her talks main
objective is to expand, enlarge and inflate the power of youth to become better leaders that will
influence other people towards the betterment of the society. She shared lots of personal stories
and experiences in which you can learn and reflect from those. She also mentioned that she first
experienced lots of failures in her life, but those failures did not stop her. Instead, she surrendered
everything to God, and have faith in Him that He has already plans in her life. And because of that,
at the age of 22, she became the youngest leader in the Tabaco City.
Based from her talk, there are 5 steps to amplify oneself. First is to let go of the past. We
need to let go all the happenings in the past, both victories and failures. We need to learn how to be
resilient thus knowing how to move on and not letting yourself dwell on the things that already
happened. Instead, always live in the present and be better in the future. Second, maximize what
you have. She said that you must always ask yourself with the question, Whats in your hands? If
ever you cant find your strengths yourself, you can pray to God and He will help you in realizing the
things that are already in your hands. Use those strengths to influence other people for the better.
Third, innovate and go forth. She emphasized in this part that we should not be stagnant. We
must always think of something new. We need to get out of our comfort zones to expand the things
we are used to, to have more opportunities to grow. And also, we must always have a clear view on
what we want and desire and we should always have a stand for something. Fourth, pass it on.
Mentor. We should always want to help other people. As leaders ourselves, we should teach other
people the values and skills we have as leaders to other people. We should always influence,
inspire and motivate others. And we, ourselves, must have our own mentor. If there are times that
we are not sure of what to do, we can ask help from our mentors. They will help you stay tract on
your goal. And the last step is to focus. If we want something, we must always focus in achieving it.
But the most important things is, we must always fix our eyes to God. Because He will always guide
us, inspire us, motivate us and we can find the strength in Him in achieving our goals.
I can say that this LTS is was a very productive one. Not only did Mam Sheina achieved her
goal of teaching us how to amplify, but also she helped us reflect through her stories and gained life
lessons that I know we can use in our lives. Also, she helped us to be closer to God. Her teachings
have lots of Gods words that I know are her foundations of her core values as a person and as a
leader.
As a future Engineer, I know that in some way, we are made to be a leader in our target
industry. We must not only be an Engineer equipped with the necessary engineering knowledge and
skills, but also an Engineer that has vast leadership skills. A God-centered Engineer who lives by

His words and setting ones values as what God wanted and can be able to influence other people
to excel both in the fields of work and in the field of having faith in Him.
