a !st task: GOING THROUGH YESTERDAY͛S OUTCOMES AND PROCESS, GM͛S EXPERTIZES
a CL was suggesting the agenda, which was agreed. The issues were put on the flip chart.
a The group started to reflect on the hand book guidelines. First reading.
a Reflection of yesterday: The group worked well, it was easy because the group is small. Even
if the group was not really small, as CL put out.

Ô

a try to see a bigger picture

a Do we need more info on the case? The group wanted to understand more about the case. It
seems to be disturbing that the case owner was not present. CL: We are missing the contact
to the client. We have put everything on the table that we have now.
a Our WoW (ways of working) 2day? David starts speaking about the case, not about the
working method. He suggests to be really creative, do something crazy. CL very nicely: David,
I hear your point and let͛s try to find balance between the spontaneous brain storming and
goal oriented work.
a Hilla suggests to vary working methods, for example to practice individual writing every now
and then.
a Guidelines for recording information / material.
a Highlighted point from the ACSI manual: THE CASES ARE DESIGNED BY THE CLIENTS AS CASE
OWNERS. THE TASK OF THE CG͛S IS TO REFRAME THE CASES AND EXTEND THEIR POTENTIAL.
What are the client͛s expectations, see their potential, potential of the client?
a Nice, open atmosphere, everyone involved in the reflection about the group͛s performance
and working method.
a Discussions goes back to working methods. Anne (CL) suggests that Guenther takes
leadership for the knowledge mapping and she herself begun to translate the new Kotka
material provided by Pirjo.
a How do we gather new insights, philosophy?
a From yesterday͛s more brainstormatype working methods to logical working methods
a Yesterday went well, open discussions good, method of postaits good
a Suggestion to keep the same method (every day?) until lunchtime
a Yesterday the group worked well, better NOT TO have specific roles. Recorder involved in
the case.
a Discussion about Inka being only a recorder. Creative suggestions to solve the problem and
free Inka to work with the group.
a Redefined role of the recorder, shared between all members!
a What has someone seen that is completely different? BE DIFFERENT!
a SOMETHING COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS?
a We have enough between us to deliver easily, use the time to be really creative
a Yesterday productive, have a moment in the day when everyone writes down / produces
something / draws
a Try out doing something completely crazy, WHAT IS THERE BETWEEN US?
a Offer smart ideas, develop imparts together, ideas mainly with the clients
a We should we BRAVE ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
a What are the group members͛ social media assets? Draw on other resources.
a Find external resources
a Important to see the community and take it into consideration
a Case owner was not present, how important is his / her role?
a We are missing a connection with the client, do we need more information?
a What are our expertizes? With who can we link with?
a Be out of balance!
a Some recorded expertizes: individual + group team development, intellectual + social
capital, knowledge region development, URBAN KNOWLEDGE (noted on flip chart) =
ACSIPERTIZE
a Seeing both sides: physical qualities as well as background knowledge
a Knowledge mapping starts. Hilla: I don͛t understand what intellectual capital is. Are we
mapping only jargon?
a David is living in Manchester, which he pointed out. It was not accepted to be mapped.

Intervention: Why didn͛t you accept the Manchester experience? It would be good to reflect what
are you doing and what for?

a Group decision: Let͛s continue the mapping as we started, and reflect afterwards. The work
goes on
a Hilla defines her experience and knowledge. Also other people express rather explicitly their
knowledge and experience, but Guenther maps it on a very general level.
a Guenther suggests that everyone makes a more detailed mapping themselves. Nothing
happens. Mapping on the flipchart is however ready. Guenther tries to make sense of it and
find connections between the different knowledge areas.

a 2nd task: FUTURE BASE / FUTURE VISION (KOTKA IN 2020)
a David takes initiative and asks everyone to stand up. He begins to visualise the future Kotka,
takes Guenter with the flip chart and the others out from the meeting room and out from
the whole building to the nature. people look a bit surprised, but follow David. ͞Trust me͟,
he says.
a David leads an exercise where everyone starts visualising: Today is July !st 2020 and I am
especially proud of Kotka because͙
a imaginary walk to future Kotka, with our notes of our expertizes
a referring to our notes everyone explaining what Kotka will be like in 2020, how the ideas
from the ACSI camp have been put into reality
a The exercise works fantastically and in ten minutes the group is mentally and content wise in
a totally different position. Lots of fantastic and relevant ideas have emerged, people are full
of energy and there pops up also many ideas how to visualise the outcome for the
ACSIbition. (The method is called Future Base).
a WORKED SUPER WELL! GREAT RESULTS AND SPONTANEOUS CONVERSATIONS IN A SHORT
TIME

¦

a Great variety of ideas from bat boxes, boat making (wood), Aalto University, merging land
and water, planting on roofs͙
a ideas about how to present at ACSIbition
a discussion about the importance of different working methods and taking ideas out of
context, seeing what WoW (way of working) is right for our team
a keep in mind the ecological view
a be brave enough to try out something (working method) that feels different, act on it
a The group asks Pirjo whether it would be important to other groups to get knowledge of the
work process and information about the results. Very important indeed! Sharing knowledge
is one of the core tasks of a case group member.
a

a ârd task: VISUAL TASK TO DRAW OUR IDEAS
a to draw our 2020 Kotka on paper (!0mins task)
a The group comes back to the meeting room and starts working individually with Kotka 2020
visions by drawing them on the paper.
a The group members make their drawings and put them on the wall. Anne asks Pirjo whether
she could make the presentation of Kotka that now has been translated into English. Pirjo
says that it is OK if the group wants it, but points also out that the group is now in an
intensive process that cannot be cut down.

Ô
a for some GM easier to understand when info presented visually
a ideas for ACSIbition presentation
a ideas about how to record information
a documenting / recording both in words and in photographs

a Pirjo Ståhle͛s presentation on Kotka
a Hilla suggested that everyone individually or in pairs could make short presentations
connected to Kotka case.
