32

Architectural differences between ICM 5.1.1 and 5.2

Business Space is no longer installed in ICM 5.2

ICM 5.2 Case Client is hosted as a plug-in in IBM Content Navigator (ICN)
which provides the application container (authentication, access to CPE
services)

ICM 5.2 requires IBM Case Foundation 5.2

Workplace XT is now only required in the development environment

Hosts Process Designer, Entry Template Designer, Stored Search Designer, Form
Policy tools
Can be configured in the same WAS profile as ICM / ICN (same as 5.1.1)

Workplace XT is optional in production environments

Required if using XT policy-based forms or you have other custom integrations
into Workplace XT
ICN provides a redirect to view
Content Navigator and Workplace XT configured in different application server
profiles

Additional information is stored in network shared directory

38

Upgrade Summary
In a production environment, from the same Target Object Store you
can run an ICM 5.1.1 solution side-by-side with other solutions that
have been created in or upgraded to ICM 5.2
Enables gradual migration of solutions through co-location of ICM 5.1.1
solutions and ICM 5.2 solutions

When upgrading a solution to 5.2

Solution definition files are automatically upgraded from 5.1.1 to 5.2

No data upgrade is needed for cases/tasks/documents/etc
A new default web application is automatically generated
Any customizations to the ICM 5.1.1 web app must be applied to the ICM
5.2 web app, e.g.
Custom widgets and actions
Page layout, including widget configuration settings and wiring

Tools and resources are provided to assist transitioning web app

Guidelines and sample widgets
Tool that generates a checklist of ICM 5.1.1 web application customizations
Ability to continue running 5.1.1 web app, enables side-by-side comparison/testing

Overview of solution upgrade steps

Pre-requisite: upgrade to IBM Case Foundation 5.2.0.2
Development environment
Test / Production environments
1. Install and Configure ICM 5.2 in new WAS
profile

5. Install and Configure ICM 5.2

2. Upgrade solution (open in Case Builder)

Customized 5.1.1
web app?
Yes

3. Convert custom iWidgets to Dojo page

widgets

4. Customize page layouts in Case Builder

and test
Copyright IBM Corp. 2013.
41

6. Import 5.2 solution from Dev and deploy,

disable access to solution from 5.1.1
No
No

All solutions moved?

Yes

7. Decommission 5.1.1 ICM WAS profile

Development environment for upgrading solutions

Option 1

Option 2

Continue running ICM 5.1.1 server and add an ICM 5.2 server
Create new design and target object stores in dev

Simpler option for solutions that have fewer web app

customizations, where there is no need to continue
maintaining a 5.1.1 solution

To upgrade, export it to new design object store

Can continue to maintain 5.1.1 version

Can be useful for sandbox/demo systems, or if there is only

one solution and it will be upgraded without requiring
maintenance in 5.1.1
