About Graftobian

In 1978, Gene and Evelyn Coffman embarked on a daring and adventurous entrepreneurial voyage. As founders of Graftobian
Ltd., they sought to produce and sell the finest novelty masquerade makeup in the world. Their product, Disguise Stix, is now
recognized as the leading face paint on the market. Although the face paints timelessly unique presentation, on a stick, may look
funny, the Stix are just so easy, safe and fun for little hands to play with and experiment.
In 1995, Eric, their son, and his wife Susan took over the helm of Graftobian so that Gene and Evie could retire. Soon after, Graftobian grew by adding colored and glitter hair sprays. Then in 1997, Eric and Susans longtime friend, John Mazur, added his unparalleled formulation skills when he partnered with Graftobian Ltd. to manufacture professional theatrical and beauty makeup. A
revised, expanded, and invigorated Graftobian Make-Up Company was born!
As Graftobian grows and changes to offer a more diverse line of makeup, two
things must remain the same: We will

Helping Shape Graftobian

Brad Look is a top tier, Emmy Award-winning, professional Hollywood makeup artist featured
throughout this catalog. His specialty is airbrush makeup, both beauty and F/X, but within these pages
he shares a wide variety of makeup tips. Brad played a key role in helping create the colors in our
Glamour Creme and matching GlamAireTM Airbrush foundations. Today, Brad continues to be one our
most valuable friends and consultants as we develop new F/X makeup.
Mary Erickson is a nationally respected print, editorial, and fashion makeup artist with over 20 years of experience. Mary was instrumental in the development of Graftobians HD Glamour Crme Palettes, Lip Color Palettes, Corrector Palette and our now famous Super Palettes (p. 11). She created the concept of offering our
HD Pro Powders in kit friendly 37mm size pans for use in custom multi-well compacts, which all professional
makeup artists need for their work. Marys understanding of todays trends in professional makeup helps keep
us on the cutting edge of pro cosmetic technology. Her latest contribution is her request that we create our
new Banana Cream Pie HD Cashmere Setting Powder (p. 19).
Suzanne Patterson is an Emmy Award winning makeup and special makeup effects artist who specializes
in HD makeup application technology and technique. Her extensive knowledge and expertise in this medium
led her to develop for Graftobian, the multiple award-winning makeup DVD HD makeup 101: Achieving
Perfection with Simplicity. Suzanne had a fundamental influence in the development of our professional
makeup products for HDTV. As an SFX artist who also specializes in Casualty Simulation for HDTV and the
military trauma training environment she has brought new product innovations for our SFX line, including
our popular F/X Blood Powder, Dirt Powders and the addition of Blood Modeling Wax. Suzanne also
developed our new SFX video, Special Makeup Effects for Casualty Simulation Arts released June, 2013.

About Our Covers: This years covers, front and back, are the product of our two
fairly new and very dynamic European distributors from Ukraine and Spain. The front
cover is a masterpiece of delightful beauty and fantasy by the very talented Matilda,
one of the lead instructors for Top Cosmetics of Ukraine also known as Graftobian
Ukraine. The back cover is a more modern art creation by De Maria, one of the owners
of La Bette Studios in Barcelona, also known as Graftobian Espaa. We are very proud

Anti-Shine HD foundation primer is perfect for normal to very oily skin. This foundation primer prepares the skin with a light

Global Correction Collection

Inspiration for the Global Correction Collection
Ive been a fan of Graftobian HD Beauty products for quite a while

now. The HD Glamour Crme and Powder Foundations have become
staples in my kit, especially for male grooming because of their perfect
level of coverage and natural look on camera.
I was at a trade show (I believe it was IMATS), standing at the Graftobian booth, chatting with Eric (Coffman). I questioned why they
never progressed past the (very popular) original Color Correction
Palette for light/medium skin-tones? Why hadnt they expanded the collection to include a corrector palette for medium/dark
skin-tones? I also questioned why they hadnt addressed the growing trend for highlight/contour kits and created palettes to
accommodate all global skin-tones? It would be a pretty easy project, because they already had an enormous library of HD

twice. An invitation to play with makeup and
create something new? I immediately grabbed all
the display palettes on the counter and started
swatching colors, taking notes and drawing schematics.
Thanks to my assertive (aggressive) questioning

and the good nature of a very gracious company
owner, Graftobian now offers two Color Corrector and two Highlight/Contour palettes for Light/Medium and Medium/Dark skintones. We also designed a Global master palette (pictured left) that contains 18
perfect shades to color correct, highlight and contour ANY skin-tone (which is my
personal favorite).

There are many ways to go about
covering a tattoo, and Graftobian
offers several products to achieve
this. In this example, Suzanne
Patterson begins in Step 1 by
neutralizing the dark blue color
with orange.

You can use our HD Glamour Crme Foundations (p.9-13), Theatrical Creme Foundation (p.7883), or Rubber Mask Grease (RMG, p.96) for this step (products listed in order of increasing
pigmentation and opacity). It is important to neutralize using opposite color theory, and then
to powder (HD setting powders p.19, theatrical setting powders p.89) after each step to set
your work in place. You may also spray a light layer of Setting Spray (p.25) after powdering for
additional durability. In Step 2, Suzanne follows with a very light shade of F/X Aire airbrush
makeup (p.53) to finish blanking out the dark tattoo. It is not necessary to powder this layer.
Step 3 is a little more involved: The tattoo has been covered and neutralized, and now you
need to bring back the natural look of the skin. Suzanne uses our RMG Derma wheel for this step
due to its intense pigmentation and true-to-life skin shades. Since skin is never just one color,
it is important to select or create shades that bring back the undertones, midtones and toptones
using, again, either HD Glamour Creme Foundations, Theatrical Cremes or RMG, and setting your
work with powder and setting spray after each layer.
Neutralizing / Tattoo Cover / Corrector Wheels, 1 oz.

Frequently in beauty or film work, an actor has color imperfections, blemishes, stains, tattoos, or other discolorations which require
neutralizating or concealing. These two wheels are designed to include the most often used shades for neutralizing, highlighting, and
concealing used by professionals. These two wheels employ our heavier, theatrical base and offer 10% more pigment than our HD

Tips from a Pro

Many times when working on an actor, you might notice
that a discoloration on their face will be a combination of
colors. If this is the case, you can mix between the colors in
the wheels. For example, if an actor has a gray blue under
eye discoloration, Ill use a mix of pink and
orange to counteract the problem. If the
problem is a small, minor one, Ill dab a brush
in each of the colors I need on the wheel and
mix the correction right on the actors skin, as
opposed to mixing it on a palette before hand.

soften features and remove glare.

Tips from a Pro

HD Pro Powder can be applied dry with either
a brush or the provided sponge. Using a brush will
allow more translucency, while a sponge will provide
more opaqueness to the coverage. Apply with a
wet sponge for even greater coverage. When using
over a crme foundation application, it is suggested
that a light brush (like fan brush #78107, p. 35) be
used to apply the HD Pro Powder for a soft and
natural looking finish to the makeup.

Tips and Techniques
You can turn your favorite Luster Powder colors (p. 28) into liquid
makeup just by mixing it with Magic Set. Also used with Cosmetic
Powdered Metals (see Tips & Techniques on page 32), or as a lining liquid
when mixed with our cake eyeliner as shown to the bottom left. Mix
Magic Set with virtually any powdered makeup or pigment to create
ultra-durable custom paint or lining shades. Available in a convenient 1/4
oz. size for creating custom eye-liners, the dropper-tipped bottle allows
for more control and precision.
Magic Set Lining Tips

GlamAire / HD Crme
Sampler Packs
To introduce our HD products and illustrate
the cross platform compatability of our
GlamAire with our HD Crmes, we have
put together 3 sampler sets. Each set is
a small representation of shades from
our warm, cool, or neutral color ranges.
Sampler sets include one HD Crme Palette
(p. 10) and its five matching GlamAire
shades in .25 oz. sample size.
Always start with a clean, dry face. A light moisturizer may be

applied to the skin prior to the application of makeup.
Use colors from the corrector wheel (for serious corrective
work, p. 14) or palette (p. 13) to minimize any discoloration
under the eyes, around the nose, and anywhere else on the
face. Set with powder. (See page 19).
Remove any excess powder. Use the matching Graftobian HD Cream Foundation
(p. 9) under the eyes and nose. Blend off the color before setting with powder.
The airbrushing process should be a pleasant one. It is recommended that air
pressures between 3 to 6 psi be used.
Cosmetics should never be sprayed in the eyes,
nose, ears, or mouth, and never airbrush cosmetics
over broken skin. Work in a well-ventilated area, no
smoking or eating.
The airbrush I like to use has a large cup with
a cap (#20067L) (see page 57). I recommend that
while you are spraying, the cap remains secured in
place.

The key to creating believable makeups

while airbrushing is to use freehand
spraying to establish the forms of the
character. Dont forget the use of color
theory when exploring the creation of a
character makeup. Using cool colors for
the shadows and warm colors for the
highlights will give you a much stronger
finished makeup. Ill use stencils when
I need to repeat a given pattern in a
makeup that needs to be re-applied to
the same character each day, for several
days, so that there will be continuity
to the design. But as a general rule, I
believe that freehand airbrushing gives
a more organic look to the finished
makeup.

sponge, brush, cotton swab, or fingertip.
2. The paint dries to the touch and will not rub off or smear off if dry.
3. Coloring washes off of and out of anything, including clothing and costumes,

use of an aloe vera based gel or skin
lotion first before applying latex. Try
to paint hairless skin!

skin. If necessary, pre-powder moist skin
to ensure that all surrounding skin is totally dry. Allow latex to dry completely.
Apply glitter (p.74) by

then press glitter into

So long as all skin is dry,
the excess will just fall

How to use Pro Adhesive:
When you need something to stay on, virtually no matter what, use Pro Adhesive. Coat
the appliance and the skin area with the Pro Adhesive. Allow to dry clear. Press the two
coated surfaces together and they are stuck--they will not be possible to reposition.
To remove:
Pro Adhesive Remover doesnt dissolve the Pro Adhesive. Instead, it works ultrafine oil
between the attached piece and your skin. With time and patience, the piece is removed.

Castor Seal is used to add an oil content to any nonskin surface prior to applying makeup. Without Castor Seal,
often the latex or other appliance will absorb the oils from
the makeup. This can yield a very matte or chalky finish
to that area, making the area fail to blend in naturally with its

How to use Castor Seal
To Precoat Latex/Foam Latex
Using a Foam Wedge with a bit of Castor Seal poured
onto it, stipple the Castor Seal onto the latex or foam
latex piece or area (getting a bit on the surrounding
skin is not a problem). Once evenly coated, use face
powder and puff to apply powder to that area to absorb any excess moisture and to prepare for coloring
the area with makeup. Apply makeup.
Note: in order to preclude the use of Castor Seal, you
may opt to use Rubber Mask Grease (p. 96), which contains castor oil in its formulation and can be used on the
piece as well as the surrounding skin.
How to use Modeling Wax

1) Apply Spirit Gum to area to receive
wax, tap out with finger.
2) Press ball of Wax onto gummed
area and shape as desired.
3) Use a small amount of makeup
remover on your fingertip to smooth
wax. Powdering the wax area at this
point is optional but is helpful in
absorbing excess moisture.
4) Paint several quick drying coats of
flexible wax sealer over wax area.
Note: painting or stippling liquid
latex over the wax achieves this
protective layer as well but takes a bit
longer to dry.

Latex allergies affect a small but

significant percentage of people.
Those with such allergies should refrain
from using Liquid Latex on their skin.
Try something like this (the hanging eyeball): 1) Using flesh colored latex,
red latex, white latex (all on p. 76) and a novelty eyeball, pour onto a
mirror or glass sheet as indicated. 2) Make the flesh patch big enough to
cover your eye region. Allow to dry overnight. 3) Powder both sides while
peeling it off the glass.
To make your own scars just play around with rolling the latex into ridges
and sealing the ridge down with another coat of latex. Use household
cereals and legumes as texture and top it with another coat or two.
Liquid Pain & Sorrow (Sweat & Tears)

Used to simulate Sweat or Tears. Can be applied with dropper or with spray bottle such as our #88463 2 oz. Bottle w/
Spraycap, p. 39. This glycerine product does not readily
evaporate, therefore it will remain looking like sweat or like
tears for about as long as you like.

F/X Gelatin is the heat and serve of gore makeup. Create your
own burned or mangled face effect with ease using one, two, or all
three of the available colors.
1. Heat bottle in a hot water bath for a few minutes until F/X
Gelatin is fluid, then test temperature on wrist to make sure its
not too hot for your skin. Do not microwave or boil F/X Gelatin.
2. Apply colors, then shape, swirl, or mix until F/X Gelatin has cooled.
3. Once F/X Gelatin has cooled, it will stay in place and remain flexible.
4. Add blood products if desired. Peel off to remove.

Graftobian Pro F/X Rubber Mask Grease (RMG), is made especially for use directly over latex or foam latex surfaces such as masks,
fake wounds, bald caps, or other latex and foam latex appliances. RMG contains Castor Oil, which coats appliances and the surrounding
skin with sufficient oils to allow the latex piece to appear natural and not chalky, as it would appear if you used ordinary creme foundations
