On 15th and 22nd of October, an interschool badminton tournament
was held at the Salah Al-Din Sports Centre hosted by Shuttle time and Yonex. The badminton players of DGPS enrolled in the heated competition and promised to give their best. In this arduous tournament, seven other schools competed for each with their own formidable players. However, DGPS also had their own share of strength in the age categories of under 12, 14, and 16. The first round of the competition commenced with many separate matches happening in unison up to seven at a time in the gigantic hall. The under 12 players of DGPS played dexterously and reached the semi-finals but, unfortunately, they were unsuccessful in their attempt. The under 14 players had been victorious and had reached the semifinals with their match being postponed to 26th of October. However, the senior players of under 16 who although were very skilled at badminton couldnt face the muscle of the other schools expert teams in the first round. Although their attempt didnt go in vain as they had a small taste of victory in one match and moreover, it was not a defeat but a learning experience. The girl's interschool competition also was fairly successful as the under 12 juniors had triumphantly reached finals with their match postponed on 26th but the under 14 and 16 had bitterly tasted defeat in their first rounds. All in all, the whole tournament was a tremendous inculcation of the schools talent in badminton and an enlightening experience for the badminton stars of DGPS. By Student Correspondent, N.Sasikumaran
