SURVEY SPECIFICATION
INTRODUCTION
1.1
General
The 30 gas pipeline has an offshore section approximately 22km long and an onshore
section approximately 8.5km long. It will be used to transport natural gas from the Spanish
gas pipeline system to the offshore platform and return dehydrated gas from the offshore
platform complex to the onshore gas treatment plant. The offshore section will be connected
by a 31km Fibre Optic Cable (FOC) to the Onshore Operations Plant (OOP). All pipelines will
be buried.
1.2
Purpose of Document
This Specification defines the minimum technical requirements for the onshore construction
survey activities associated with the Castor Underground Gas Storage Development Pipeline
Project.
1.3
Definitions
For a comprehensive list of definitions refer to the Contract Agreement to which this
Specification applies.

Other defined terms used in this Specification and elsewhere in the Contract Agreement shall
have the meaning assigned to them as defined within the General Terms and Conditions.
Within the Contract Agreement, defined terms are denoted by means of words with an initial
capital.

Units
System of International (SI) units shall be used throughout the design. In accordance with
standard industry practice, other units may be used as follows:

Compliance by Contractor with this Specification shall not relieve him of his responsibilities to
supply services suited to meet the specified requirements and/or local codes governing health
and safety.
Any technical deviations to the Specifications and its attachments shall be obtained by the
Contractor only through concession request format. Concession requests require ACS
COBRA CASTOR review and approval prior to implementation of the proposed changes.
Technical changes implemented prior to ACS COBRA CASTOR approval are subject to
rejection.

Quality Conformance
Contractor shall demonstrate to the satisfaction of the ACS COBRA CASTOR that his
activities within the scope of this document are in accordance with the Quality Specification
for Contractors (CAS-3000-JP-EG-SPE-001).

Documentation
Documentation shall be supplied in accordance with the Offshore
Documentation Requirements Specification (CAS-3000-JP-EG-SPE-015).

Order of Precedence
Contractor shall notify ACS COBRA CASTOR of conflict between this Specification, the
related Data Sheets, the Codes, Specifications and Standards and any other Specifications
noted herein.
Resolution and/or interpretation of precedence shall be obtained from ACS COBRA CASTOR
in writing before proceeding with the design or manufacture.
All written responses to Contractor from ACS COBRA CASTOR shall be binding. However
any such response shall not relieve Contractor of his contractual obligations unless
specifically stated.
In case of conflict, the order of precedence shall be:

4.1
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Equipment Requirements
The Contractor shall utilise conventional survey equipment and procedures. All equipment
shall be calibrated. Test Certificates and evidence of calibrations shall be available at Site.
No equipment shall be used without current in-date certification.
4.2
Survey Control
The previously established survey control shall used as reference throughout the
construction. CONTRACTOR shall install additional survey control monuments as necessary.
Any additional monuments established shall be based upon those already established.
Station Descriptions for the six previously established Control Points may be found in the
Appendix A.
All survey shall be related to the following system:

Pre-Entry Survey
Prior to any work being carried out by the Contractor, a survey of the construction sites
including accesses shall be carried out by the Contractor. This shall establish the existing
condition of the sites and provide a benchmark for the final reinstatement of the site. The
survey shall consist of the following:
Topographical Survey
Setting Out
The topographical survey shall be carried out over the entire site.
The Contractor shall positively locate and mark all existing services on the site. That is all
overground, surface and underground services.
The Contractor shall also set out the following:
Pipe centreline
Fence Lines
The photographic survey shall consist of dividing the site into grid points and taking four
photographs from each point on the points of the compass. The spacing of the grid shall be
agreed on site with the Company.
The Contractor shall mark and peg out the site and the pipeline route prior to the photographs
being taken. Pegs shall be spaced every 25 m down the pipeline centre. The pegging out
shall indicate the various site areas such as soil storage and access roads.

Reinstatement Survey
Following the completion of the reinstatement the Contractor shall carry out the following
surveys:
Photographic surveys to the same standard and at the same points as the pre-entry
survey
This survey shall demonstrate to the Company that the site, including any access roads have
been reinstated in accordance with the Landfall Construction Specification.

5.1
ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
General
The acceptance criteria shall be the report presented on completion of each survey. The
reports shall include details of the survey equipment used.
The reports shall demonstrate compliance with this Specification.
5.2
Tolerances
Control monuments shall be co-ordinated to an accuracy of
+/- 0.05m.
