Welcome to the 2017 STEM Adventures for

this year.
We are trying something new
by creating a specialized newsletter to
keep you and your unit connected with the
awesome STEM Adventures happening across
the state and in your own backyard. Our
STEM Adventures focus on your Scout earning
their
NOVA
module
awards,
receiving
STEMblems and engaging with high quality
adults and activities that have a STEM
focus in mind. Please visit our website
at Michiganscouting.org/STEM to keep you
up to date on our STEM events, get the
tracking forms you need and to learn more
about how STEM is taking Scouting where it
has never been before!

What is STEM?

Science,
Technology,
Engineering
and
Math are often put together.
There are
good reasons for this theres a lot
of integration between these fields and
collaboration between their respective
professionals but a clearer picture of
each area cant hurt. This is why the Boy
Scouts of America have created NOVA modules
that address these areas and more. Best of
all, when STEM and writing are combined,
Scouts actually learn better.
Research
has shown that students grasp STEM concepts
faster and remember them longer when they
learn them not as rote facts, but through
a story. Stories stimulate parts of the
brain that straight memorization doesnt
and when we use them, we can harness more
brain power. Cool!
