OUR CONTRIBUTOR MELIANA SALIM CELEBRATES

HER 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF LIVING IN BALI BY
CRAFTING HER OWN PERFUME

Along came Nora Gasparini,

a stunning Martinique native and
founder of LAtelier Parfums et

Nusa Dua. During a visit to Bali, the
perfume connoisseur fell in love with
the island and its wondrous scents,
so she decided to stay and explore
her obsession with perfumery and

happiness through two different events. On December 9, Grand Hyatt Bali held an appreciation party titled Electric for its loyal partners and clients. The 500 guests indulged
in a lavish buffet dinner accompanied by live performances. A couple of days after
the party, Grand Hyatt Bali welcomed close to 400 underprivileged children from 15
orphanages and schools around Bali to celebrate Christmas together.

Call an ambulance by dialing 118, but it is a lot

more practical and quicker to hire a taxi. Most
hotels have on-call doctors on standby. For Bali
Belly, Lomotil and Imodium eliminate symptoms,
but not gastro-related infections. A fever along
with symptoms requires doctor-prescribed
antibiotics.
Drink as much liquid as possible. Isotonic
drinks under various brand names are widely
available and are known to replenish body
hydration and replace uids. For discomfort,
diarrhea and cramping, drink strong, hot tea;
avoid fruits and spicy foods.
Some day-biting mosquitoes carry dengue
fever, but this is not a problem in tourist areas.
Bali is non-malarial and prophylaxis is not
required. Mosquito bites, cuts or abrasions
easily become infected in the tropics. Treat them
immediately.
Drink only bottled or boiled water. Peel fruit
before eating; avoid raw vegetables except at
reputable restaurants. Ice in restaurants is safe.
Protect yourself from the intense equatorial sun.
Use high SPF sunblock and a hat.
AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases
are increasing in Indonesia. Local sex workers
have multiple partners from around the world.
They are not checked for sexually transmitted
diseases. Act responsibly and use condoms,
available over the counter at pharmacies.
