Green Building Concepts

Green building concept is a continuous movement which aspires to the creation of the
construction from step of planning , implementation and use of construction products that are
environmentally friendly, efficient of using energy and resources, as well as low cost. Green
building concept is also identically with sustainbilitas that emphasizes balance between shortterm gains against long-term risk, which the efforts are keep the healthy, safety and welfare
of the future.
Green building concept is maximisation function of the building in several aspects,
namely: In conducting a building plan should conduct AMDAL study whether the
procurement of such buildings can affect the environment both in terms of social, economic
or natural surroundings. If it gives considerable influence, the building has been violating the
basic concepts of green building.
Generally, the foundation of any construction project began in concept and design
stage. Concept stage is one of the major steps in a project that has the greatest impact on the
cost and performance of the project. The main purpose of planning the green building concept
is to minimize the impact that would be caused in the building both during implementation
and during use. Inefficient planning in the structure also provides an adverse effect on the
environment, namely the use of building materials are very much so wasteful.
Green Building often have action to reduce energy consumption. For example, the
energy needed for daily life, such as wind and sunlight easily enter the building . In addition,
besides an operational perspective, implementation perspective must also be considered , US
LCI Database Project studies show that buildings which constructed by wood will produce a
lower energy remunciation than the building which the materials use bricks, concrete or steel.
Many ways to reduce the use of operation energy . They are the use of windows
,insulation possible on walls , ceilings or where the entry of air flow into the building more
efficienciently. Another strategy is passive solar building design. It is often implemented in
low-energy houses. Effective window placement can provide more natural light and reduce
the need for electric lighting during the day.
The green building concept is also concerned about the use of water. Now, many
homes desing concept overlook the use of water. Mostly, the homes rely on the use of ground
water that comes from shallow wells. Lack of public awareness to make a water deposit or

give intake of water to the soil in the environment around it. The solution is to create tank
underground for deposit the rain water. Beside that, rain water can be deposited by make
infiltration wells. When the water rain down on top of buildings, Water Reservoir System are
engineered to assemble the water at one place and flowed into infiltration wells to avoid a
decrease in ground water level.
Talking about building, it will lead to the use of existing material. It has something to
do with the efficiency of the design of the structure. Beside that, architectural aspects are also
considered such as the use of walls that are too thick, use of heavy materials which give
effect to the power structures etc. So that, more material is used will give effect to the
expenditure of funds, impact on the environment, energy expenditure in construction, etc.
In the end, Green building concept is absolutely important and it must be applied
together because it have many advanteges in nowdays and the future by good planning ,
implementation and use of construction products that are environmentally friendly, efficient
of using energy and resources, as well as low cost.
