ABSTRACT
An experiment was conducted to evaluate different fungicides against downy mildew of onion. Six Fungicides
were tested in field trials conducted for two years at Chak No 38/ JB Faisalabad. All the fungicides reduced the
disease severity significantly from 72.66 to 91.66 and increased the bulb yield 88 to 181.81 percent over control.
Melody Duo 66.8 WP gave the best result among all the fungicides which reduced the disease severity up to
91.66 percent, followed by Ridomil Gold 68 and Curzate M-8 72%WP with the disease severity up to 90.83 and
88.13 percent over control, respectively. Similarly Melody Duo 66.8 WP increased the bulb yield by 148
percent, followed by Ridomil Gold 68 and Curzate M-8 72%WP which increased the bulb yield by 134.72 and
130.72 percent over control, respectively in year 2008. Disease severity and bulb yield had highly significant
correlation : in treatments Melody Duo 66.8 WP, Ridomil Gold 68 disease severity was low but the yield was
high whereas in treatments like Agrohit, disease severity was higher with low bulb yield. Three sprays of these
fungicides were done on the initiation of the symptoms each at seven days interval gave the best control of the
downy mildew of onion.
Key words: Peronospora destructor, onion, downy mildew, fungicides.
