Themes: These are fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary
work.
_ _ _ _ _ 1. It is the constantly present in the novels characters. It is the thing
that made them rash their decisions. Example: Darcy think of his own like a high
class citizen that make him look down at others, on the other hand, takes so
much of this in her ability to judge others that she refuses to revise her opinion
even in the face of clearly contradictory evidence
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 2. In Pride and Prejudice it refers to the tendency of the
characters to judge one another based on preconceptions, rather than on who
they really are and what they actually do. As the book's title implies, prejudice
goes hand in hand with pride, often leading its heroine and hero into making
wrong assumptions about motives and behavior.
_ _ _ _ 3. With the central characters, Austen suggests that this is a force
separate from society and one that can conquer even the most difficult of
circumstances.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 4. In the novel this theme appears when Elizabeth went to the
house of Bingleys and she is in complete mud that Miss Bingley and her friends
was shocked. For people in the novel, women are expected to behave in certain
ways.
_ _ _ _ _ 5. This theme is related to the previous theme, in that both reflect the
strictly regimented nature of life for the middle and upper classes in Regency
England. The lines for this are strictly drawn.

Motifs: Motifs are recurring structures, contrasts, and literary devices that can help to
develop and inform the texts major themes.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 6. In the novel it reflects between Darcy and Elizabeth, also
between Bingley and Jane. It is an act of pursuing someone when people are
developing romantic relationship that could lead to marriage.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ 7. Nearly every scene in Pride and Prejudice takes place indoors, and
the action centers around the Bennet home in the small village of Longbourn.
Nevertheless, this motif function repeatedly as catalysts for change in the novel. It is
an act of travelling to one place to another.

Symbols: Symbols are objects, characters, figures, and colors used to represent
abstract ideas or concepts.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 8. It is Darcys estate, it sits at the center of the novel, literally and
figuratively, as a geographic symbol of the man who owns it. Elizabeth visits it at a
time when her feelings toward Darcy are beginning to warm; she is enchanted by its
beauty and charm, and by the picturesque countryside, just as she will be charmed,
increasingly, by the gifts of its owner.
_ _ _ _ _ _ 9. It symbolizes and function as the outward signs of their owner's inward
character. They carry an almost spiritual significance.

Yahoo! Youre on the last part of the caf, now it is time

for you to digest all the information and knowledge you
got from the novel. It is time for you to voice out your
